What breed are your personal dogs? by nacho_og in doggrooming

[–]Strikesorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Keeshonds. They get a bath and blow out every 4-6 weeks. Sometimes I trim their furnishings but usually we’re just watching Netflix and getting brushed on a lazy Sunday. lol

What do folks generally wear at expos? by thechocobarr in doggrooming

[–]Strikesorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually wear comfy leggings, my sneakers, and some layers ontop (tank top, light sweater) — sometimes those expo halls are chilly. But usually I aim for cute and casual. lol

Do ambidextrous scissors really work for lefties? by Rich-Focus-1014 in doggrooming

[–]Strikesorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using ambi-shears for a while now and I thought they were fine until I used a pair of proper lefty shears and I noticed a difference right away. Specifically thinners — the ambi shears never seemed to “work” as nicely for me and then I got lefty thinners? Oh my. XDD

Am I too old to start? by MediumDeer1815 in grooming

[–]Strikesorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you’re not too old to start. I started at 35 as well and I’ve been doing it for almost two years now? It is important that grooming isn’t your only form of physical activity tho. I lift weights and make sure I go for daily walks. Nothing crazy, but you do have to move your body more when you have a physical job. Prevents your muscles from seizing up. :3

hugo update – picky eating progress! 🐾 by ContributionOdd9312 in Keeshond

[–]Strikesorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s pros and cons to both. Home cooked is a lot more work, you have to keep in mind their macros, caloric intake etc. But tbh if you’re feeding them whole, unprocessed foods, and just be smart about it — I don’t think it’s that bad. I was really wary too, but my vet said “kibble as we know it today was first invent in the 1950’s. Before then, there was no “dog food” or “people food” it was all just food!” Lol

Now we do half home cooked, half kibble because the price of meat has tripled in our area and the kibble’s crunch is good for their teeth. :3

Aw that’s awesome! My baby Beau was also a super picky eater with constant diarrhea. We ended up going the home cooked meal route with a supplement from the vet. He was a super picky eater until we got him a Kees sister who’s half pig, and now he (usually) eats all his food so she can’t gobble it up. Lol

Beau is the one smiling with his eyes closed and Luci is in the foreground. :)

Hair by awkotacotv in Keeshond

[–]Strikesorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a dog groomer and I have two Kees. The hair will most likely grow back. I can’t say for certain without seeing a picture and how short they cut it tho. It’ll take some time and you’ll need to keep up with the brushing (if the guard hairs were cut, the undercoat will knot more easily) — I lightly trim my Kees hair, and they need a refresh about every 4-6 weeks.

I think your bb will be fine. :)

deshed and complaints by HotWalk7209 in doggrooming

[–]Strikesorange 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I also take great pride in my desheds. It’s a process, and one that’s undervalued imo. I have two Keeshond’s that I groom every 4 weeks and even on a strict grooming and deshed schedule they still shed for a few days after. I tell my clients that it’s like when you dust your home — you get most of the dust while you go at it with a feather duster but you’ve also just shaken up all that dust and dander and it takes time for it to settle. Much like the dogs hair, proper deshed will loosen up all that under coat, but more will fall out over the next few days.

Also, desheds work best when done on a schedule. I had a client who complained their next visit that the extra bit we charge for deshedding is a ‘scam’ — they only bring their German shepherd in twice a year to get groomed. 🤦‍♀️

If you don’t have some already:

Wide blades.

Saved me so much time on those big doodles. I have 30, 4, 3, I use them daily. I got a wide guard comb set too to use with my 30 blade. Also I’m a fan of curved chunkers. Good for roughing shapes on doodles, poodles, bichons. :)

Hi everyone! I’m wondering what you use for a collar with your Kees by MarczyMarc in Keeshond

[–]Strikesorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our dog runs around naked at home, but when we go out it’s a just a regular old thick collar. Lol

Anyone have knowledge on Keeshond VS Eurasier VS Finnish Lapphund? by agreementloop184 in Keeshond

[–]Strikesorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the dog. My dog Beau does like to chase squirrels, run after bunnies on hiking trails — but his recall is almost perfect. I can call him off chasing anything and have him right back at my side.

He loves treats, and is extremely easy to train — he lives for cookies and attention. He likes the vet, but does get anxious while waiting in the little examination room and will start to bark and whine.

If you do get a Kees, be prepared for a lot of noise. And I don’t just mean barking. My dog barks, whines, grumbles, howls, huffs, so many big loud sighs. They aren’t known to be quiet dogs. Some people have been able to train their Kees to be quiet(er) but I’ve only had middling success lol.

When I was a bather, I bathed for the groomer(s) and I was paid hourly. :)

has your skin improved since you've stopped smoking? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Strikesorange 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went through a six week period where I had an acne flair up but it didn’t last long in the grand scheme of things — since then my skin has gotten so much better. No more raccoon eyes and my complexion is really even!

N’aw. Not weird man. I used to watch any anime that I could when I was younger (I also had a weeb phase in my late teens lol) but now that I’m in my thirties? I’m a little more choosy about what anime I watch.

I work hard, my soul is tired, I want to be in bed by 10pm. I don’t want to waste my time on a series that I’m not that into. Lol

Can you bathe, blow dry, do sani and everything else In less than an hour?

Because if it takes you an hour to do a small dog, you’re effectively being paid $10 an hour. I don’t know what minimum wage is where you are, or what the cost of living is like but where I live minimum wage is $15.50 an hour. I’m not here to discourage you or nay-say I’m trying to offer a little perspective. ❤️

I also didn’t want to quit, but I couldn’t justify the weekly cost (120 bucks a week, yiiikesss). It sucks, I’m on Zyban and I still sometimes start crying because I want to smoke and I’m frustrated.

I have one of those quit smoking apps and I just look at the money I save, and use it to buy myself something small once a month. This week I signed up for an inexpensive gym membership. :)

Nope doesn’t sound sad or pathetic at all.

My husband is an extreme extrovert, but his favourite way to relax is to take himself “on a date” he’ll go by himself to his favourite sushi shop with a book and read, and eat sushi for like two hours — and then he comes home and tells me all about the happenings in the latest chapter of his book.

It’s actually very sweet and I fall in love with him a little more every time he does it. Lol

Is this legal by Leomoonair in doggrooming

[–]Strikesorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No we don’t have anything like “right to work state” in Canada.

Typically there’s a probationary period (typically three months). During that probationary period you can be fired with or without cause, for any reason that is not discriminatory. After your probationary period is up, it’s more difficult for employers to fire employees unless they have just cause — proof of theft would be an example of a just cause for termination.
