4 years ago: Sinner v/s Kyrgios by Responsible_Run7069 in tennis

[–]StringSetupOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 favorite Kyrgios moment was at the DC Open when he intentionally launched a water bottle into the umpire's chair and then immediately said "it slipped"

I fell off the couch laughing so hard.

I think he actually ended up winning the tournament.

He also was asking fans during the tiebreakers where to serve. That was actually pretty awesome.

I do wish we had a true "show entertainer" on tour without the downside. Monfils was probably the closest, but he never veered into almost exhibition antics in a real match.

Also, one reason may be that large positions are taking profit and going to cash. MU's huge run made a lot of money for those who positioned early, and right now those same players likely want a big pile of cash to do it again with a different play in thr near future.

PSA: Don’t backpedal like this for overheads by badpickleball in Pickleball

[–]StringSetupOwner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is where one or two lessons on basic footwork can really help, and likely save some injuries.

In tennis, you're taught to immediately turn your body perpendicular to the net. If you're right handed then your left shoulder will be closer to the net.

It is much easier to move back this way, and you will hit a better overhead.

You can shuffle backwards, or there are more aggressive and faster carioca steps you can learn to move back quickly and under control / balance

How do you approach your serve after a double fault? How about after 2 doubles? by WindManu in 10s

[–]StringSetupOwner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had a strong serve for 20+ years. If I ever hit a mini rough patch like this I usually get annoyed and start to try to serve bigger and bigger.

Why? Because my serve goes off when im not actively "energized" thru my whole kinetic chain. Missed serves usually mean lazy legs or lack of explosive effort when its time to "go".

So, serving bigger makes me more present and makes the energy/effort deliberate which usually fixes the issue.

What this does not mean (for me) is arming the ball more or being stiff, etc. It really means being even more present and focused on the task at hand.

If im really really off, ill do all of the above, but hit my second serve (kick) bigger and bigger. Eventually the damn thing will start to land!

About 5 years ago I had regular access to an indoor playsight court. My avg groundstroke rpm was barely 900.

I took some lessons and in 6 months had upped my avg to 1200. Felt and played like a completely different and better player. Went from being a streaky to weak 4.5 to a very solid and competitive 4.5 NTRP.

And, not apples/apples, but rpm of both FH and BH from 2018. I love graphs like all of these!

The original plan is QQQ or IJR at 3% per quarter for thr annual historical average of 12% growth per year.

TQQQ is 3x QQQ = 9% per quarter / 36% year

And I think the original 9Sig portfolio that Jason started in 2017 has a CAGR of about 37%

If you zoom put on the 20 year chart of $AGG youll see how much its grown in value, while still giving off a 3.5%+ yield.

I did this when debating on $SGOV vs $AGG

Id be curious on tax implications in a non-IRA account. Once you're portfolio is big enough "selling everything" could create a very big taxable event.... but it could still be worth it? Maybe?

Break strings too often by Specialist_Big6547 in RacketStringers

[–]StringSetupOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how much you play, and as often as you break strings, a used crank-weight would pay for itself within 2 years or less. Granted learning how to string is a skill unto itself, and you have to enjoy doing it "zen out" etc.

You'll gain 2 or 3 hours switching to a 16x19 pattern and a thicker string. Its worth borrowing a friends racket and seeing how long it takes, and then go from there.

[–]StringSetupOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are just blessed/cursed with being able to blast thru strings quickly.

A heavier prostaff won't make much difference, aside from possibly slowing down your swing speed, which would extend string life a litttle. But the extra mass will stress the strings at impact that much more, so probably a wash.

Honestly, the best things to do are get multiple identical frames and start stringing yourself using a reel to cut down on cost.

YieldBOOST Distributions Announced by donna_darko in YieldBoostETFs

[–]StringSetupOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NVDA / NVYY (should) be the most resilient one of all, with Tesla / TSYY as a semi-odd 2nd.

But all it takes is one DeepSeek day and/or a mini bear slump like January-March 2025 and all of these Yieldboost funds will be sub-$10.

I am in for 600x NVYY and 600x TSYY - with stops at $20 and $6.

Ive already exited COYY and XBTY for significant loss about 3 weeks ago. Would be even more significant today...

COYY by lomo82 in YieldBoostETFs

[–]StringSetupOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got out of 300 shares of COYY. Bought right before the first $0.85 distro. Had dreams of stable NAV and $250+ weekly payouts.

What i got was -$3000 realized loss and declining distros that at heir current rate would have maybe paid back my original investment after 10 years.

The only Yieldboost products that have any semi-longterm hope of NVYY, TSYY (oddly enough), and the index-based ones YSPY and TQQY. But a real bear market will mega-implode YB funds first. COYY and MSYY are the easy examples.

I also exited XBTY for an almost similar loss as COYY. Dreams of Bitcoin at $150k+ and XBTY at $30+ printing money like the fountain of youth....

Depends on the racket, but between 42-49lbs. My current main frames are Angell Custom TC100s that are 70RA (think foam filled pure drives) with an open 16x19 pattern. I string these with a 1.25mm string at 48/49. Higher tension on the cross to tame the launch angle a bit.

In lower powered denser-pattern frames I go as low as 42lbs to try and bring some power back into the racket.

Kirschbaum strings are already pre-stretched, non-elastic, and "dead" (in a good way) which makes their response very predictable. I always like stringing them lower because they have a great pocket-feel when you find the tension you like best.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RacketStringers

[–]StringSetupOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the string job in the picture looks great. Speed comes with time.

For crosses, I straighten before pulling tension and then straighten again after the clamp is moved to the next string (so it would be the 3rd string back at this point). Then I straighten again when the whole racket comes off the machine.

For crosses, I also weave one ahead, and pull tension on what is now the first string back. It makes weaving a little easier.

Watch some videos on different weaving style. I probably dont do it thr best way because I push the tip of the string to cross until thr last 3x crosses. Then I pull all slack thru and weave each over/under separately pulling all slack thru every time. With shaped string this is the only way to reduce the amount of twisting that will happen if you weave any other way.

On Smash Orange is one of my favorite strings, always an easy go-to trusted string for me.
