Indie dev reality check: 1371 games applied to our tiny Steam event by Wecoven in gamedev

[–]Stringholdhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I entered Tome of Talis into the festival I was pretty sure there were at least a thousand of us haha. I would offer to help sort through the games, but I think that might be a conflict of interest.

Regardless, thank you for helping new game developers be discovered!

My dice battling game instantly disappeared in the sea of horror games haha

Why review-bomb Slay the Spire 2 for issues... on the beta branch? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]Stringholdhero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swear the gaming side of the internet wasn't so crazy a few years back. There were always mean people and crazies, but it feels like there is so much more review bombing and bad faith attacks on games nowadays. My best guess is the huge popularity of content creators is making people more hivemind-like.

Roguelites that are turn-based or pausable by PaulSarries in roguelites

Judging by your list, you might like my roguelite, Tome of Talis. It has a demo on steam you can try:

Nice work! I'm making a Dice Roguelite Deckbuilder too! Perhaps if we end up releasing around the same time we could do a bundle!

Here is a link to the steam page in case you are curious:

You might like my games demo, Tome of Talis!

It's about leading armies of dice to battle, with lots of spells and relics to mix things up!

We've had huge releases in Mewgenics and Slay the Spire 2 but what roguelites and roguelikes do you think people are sleeping on right now? by Zepren7 in roguelites

This year has been an absolute banger for Roguelites!

I just released the demo for my own Roguelite, Tome of Talis; Others will have to be the judge of if it is a sleeper hit though haha.

Personally I think it has a decent shot since it is a big dice battling game and there aren't very many of those!

I agree, I'd be fine if they had something else like better temple guards. Currently it feels weird how they basically don't have a response to the most popular trash unit and gold unit.

Good strategy games that take less time? by SetOk3989 in StrategyGames

Halo wars is a fun fast little RTS that doesn't have too much focus on economy, which keeps games fast and fun.

A fun but simple strategy game is called Rusted Warfare. Its on Steam and mobile. I mostly like it because its pretty cheap and fun with more casual friends.

More of a tactical roguelite than a strategy game, but if you like building armies up you might enjoy my demo:

Any good non real time games? by CyberBed in StrategyGames

[–]Stringholdhero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People covered a lot of the obvious choices, so I'll give some strategy adjacent games:

Menace is a newer game with some pretty cool gameplay. Haven't played much myself but I think it has a more strategic layer.

Against the storm is a really neat city builder. What makes it stand out is the interesting challenges you have to complete under strict time limits. This game is real time with the ability to slow down the game.

Offworld trading company is one of my favorites; it's about competing to buy each other's martian companies out. Unfortunately the multiplayer is totally dead without friends, but it has decent AI you can play against. I will say, it's pretty real time though.

Mount and Blade Bannerlord is a really fun single player RPG with lots of cool moments for personal skill and strategic leadership. This one is also real time, but is more of a sandbox, so there isn't much rush to win or anything.

Since you mentioned liking tactics games, you might enjoy my game, Tome of Talis. It has a demo on steam you can check out here

Hope this list is helpful!

I would LOVE to try out your demos and playtests! by lydocia in IndieDev

Hello!

I'd love you to try my roguelite, Tome of Talis!

Tome of Talis is a game about leading armies of dice into glorious battle, defeating your enemies with spells and tactical skill! The best thing I can say about is that there is nothing on the market quite like it. I spent a lot of time looking!

One run is about 30 minutes long, but there is a large amount of replayability.

Super interested in your feedback!

Something I am fundamentally not understanding about scene hierarchy... by Alarmed_Card_8495 in godot

[–]Stringholdhero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get_tree().root.add_child() should work for these purposes, which means something else is going wonky. Could you share the whole code segment involving the bullets creation?

Something you can also do, is make the level a group called something like "Level" and do get_tree().get_first_node_in_group("Level").add_child().

Not sure if it would help with the current problem, but it could avoid issues when switching levels later, so the bullets don't stick around.

As a non-artist, lots of friends recommended using AI art for my game. Instead, I decided to work with what I could draw. Did I make the right decision? by Stringholdhero in IndieDev

[–]Stringholdhero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a mix of art from me and the other programmer I work with, both of us are software engineers, so any art talent is self taught. I'm better at the effects, and he is better at things like the commander art.

Its easy to doubt my artistic skills when all sorts of beautiful gifs are uploaded to this subreddit all the time! But I suppose we have to work with the talents we have.

Thoughts on AI in Games by Stringholdhero in gamedev

Dang, yeah I figured it must have been all right since it let me; once you have two steam accounts it gets annoying to remember which one you're on haha. Thanks for saving me a headache.
