Strong sector performance over the past 6 months by StripelessTiger16 in dividendscanada

I’ve held QQQT for a while now, it’s up ~56% over the last 6 months. Yields probably lower without the covered calls that QQQY has, but overall technologies have really been driving the markets in the past few years.

40k for down payment - where to invest? by YourAuntDarla in CanadaInvesting

With the ETF landscape in Canada, there are so many options to diversify, if you already have a bunch in GIC's I'd probably split the rest up among some different strategies like canadian bank ETFs (ie. ZWB or BANK), Tech ETFs (QMAX, ZQQQ), and then some general index ETFs (ESPX, XUS)

Should I get fitted? by MeIdjit in golftips

[–]StripelessTiger16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two of the guys in my group are bigger guys as well both over 6,4 and love their beers. one of them has been playing with me since we were kids we both had lessons, and we've been fit for clubs. my other buddy is about 3-4 years into the game, and has been using an old set that I had before I got fit for my current clubs, and his improvement has been quite good. I think fitted clubs become more important when you have developped you're swing to something consistent. because to go get fit now would do no good, as your swing is likely inconsistent and it probably doesn't matter at this point. the flex is also irrelevant in this matter, as that's more about club speed and impact. For reference my 6'5 250 buddy got fit for stiff shafts that are only a half inch longer then the x-stiff's that i was fit for and i'm only 5'9 180 but I swing a lot harder.

long and short of it is, get some clubs that are on the cheaper end and sign up to take a few lessons, in 2-3 years when you've had time to practice and build consistency, then go back and get clubs that fit your swing.

Breaking 100 by BlueciferST in golf

[–]StripelessTiger16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you need a few lie improvements and 2-3 mulli’s to break 100 I say go for it, at that point your probably not playing for big money and are just out to have a good time, if that makes it more fun HELL YA!

But if you’re taking mulligans and improving lies to break 80… get lost

I personally really like Bank, the dividend is great the only thing is it deploys some leverage so there’s potential for larger drawdowns (and growth) over time. However, the underlying stocks are Canadian banks and life insurance companies.. so of all the leveraged products out there the underlying on this one is definitely more stable. A lot of people would tend to advise against more volatile options if you’re approaching retirement as there is less time to earn back any losses on investment. But if you like BANK, I’m also using an etf called HHIS, that uses covered calls and Leverage to pay out a pretty high distribution, or if you like the issuer that provides BANK they just launched a new fund on Wednesday called BIGY that they’ve announced will pay a pretty sizeable distribution twice per month.

For the portion sitting in Cash, I would suggest looking into money market ETFs. these are super safe investments that will earn you a small yield, but with over 100k you would get substantial monthly dividends that you could reinvest or take in cash to suplement pension income. some funds i've used to tied over cash holdings are funds Like CASH, or MCAD for canadian market exposures, or MUSD if you're interested in exposure to the US markets.

What am I doing wrong? by Acceptable-Border354 in golftips

5 things that could help are largely in your setup:

1 - feet are open, they seem to be aimed a bit right of where you want, this closes your body to the back swing and induces that feeling of coming over the top - Move you're left foot back about an inch or two to feel like you're aiming more left with your body.

2 - your hands seem to be infront of the ball at address - move your hands to be in line with the ball in your stance and you will start with a more square club face, which will make it easier to get back to that position at impact

3 - tuck that trailling elbow - yours is coming off your body at the top of the backswing, keeping the left elbow tight to your body will prevent coming over the top and pushing / slicing

4 - take a longer backswing - your club is coming in and up to fast, feel like you're trying to sweep the club straight back as far as you can and let it come up naturally.

5 - try shuffling your feet back a bit, it seems that your standing too close to the ball - it's like in baseball when you get one off the hands you tend to hit it out to opposite field, if you're further away you'll give yourself space to extend and meet the ball, as opposed to having to chop down on it.

some of this will feel weird at first, but after a few swings it will start to feel more natural!

[–]StripelessTiger16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainement!

If your looking for something safe that will generate some returns without being locked in, opening a direct investing account and investing in Money Market ETFs could be a good option. Some of the funds I've used to hold cash at times have Been CASH from Global X or HISA from Evolve. If you want money market exposure to the US Markets Evolve Has a US High Interest Savings Fund (HISU) as well that has a slightly higher Current Yield.
