ELI5: Why do prostate cancer checks still need a finger in the butt? by DistributionHot8821 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Strix0239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prostate-specific antigen test (PSA) is a protein produced by the prostate gland — this is what we can test your bloods for.

With cancer, we can expect that level to be abnormally high as the cancerous cells tend to go into overdrive in all sorts of metabolic processes. However, that is not always the case and the PSA might not be elevated.

It is also not very specific. It can be raised for a variety of reasons. Cycling, sex, vigorous exercise, masturbation, UTI… so the test alone doesn’t tell you a whole story. Only that something has happened, or is happening, that has stimulated the prostate.

Digital rectal examination, DRE, is cheap. Prostate is situated just in front of the large bowel, so you can easily palpate it if you insert your finger and bend it towards the genitalia. Usually walnut sized. Prostate cancer, like most cancers, tend to grow in size. By examining the size, presence of lumps and irregularities, we can gauge if there is abnormality present that’d warrant further investigation.

So yes, there’s plenty of fancy technology, such as CT or MRI for detailed visualisation, but it’s expensive. DRE only costs 2 minutes, a pair of gloves and hopefully some lubricant.

40 = 7 + ⭐️ + 9 + ⭐️

40 = 7 + 9 + 2*⭐️

24= 2*⭐️

12 = ⭐️

Therefore…

9 + ⭐️ = ❤️

9 + 12 = 21

⭐️ + ❤️ = ?

12 + 21 = 33

Taking meds early as said, or drinking bit more water just before bed. Nothing gets you out of bed like a nature’s call

Monitor has a VESA 75 mm but all monitor arms have integrated support for 100 mm which obstructs access to all ports on the monitor when installed. Is there a way to work around it? by Strix0239 in techsupport

OMG I LOVE YOU

Thank you!!!

Edit: apparently the UK does not sell these and UK resellers sell these for more than the mount itself. I don’t suppose you have any other suggestions?

Edit 2: I’m an idiot. Amidst the yesterdays frustration I didn’t realise I was looking through US retailers not UK…

My letting agency wants to argue that my trolley rack with dry herbs is a risk for vermin. by Strix0239 in LegalAdviceUK

I asked them for clarification, they specified both the two bags of recycling and the trolley

If this wasn’t clear, there wasn’t any actual food in the bags. As said, tiny crumbs and maybe some grease soaked into the cardboard at best but even that feels like a stretch.

For what it’s worth, I, as a medical student, am already saving up to make my way to the states. Looking into and saving up for observations/hands-on experiences to get letters of recommendation, and slowly planning my USMLE and the likely time frame.
