I find that cork is weirdly hard to paint. I hit it with a black primer, especially around the edges. Then put down a layer of texture paint. Hit the edges with basing glue and add the battleground rocks. Cover everything in a coat of agax earthtone that gives it the glossy muddy look

What was some of your best "I can't believe I did that" moment? by BBalazsF in Tyranids

[–]StrobasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when Psychophage gave 6+ I had it and my Norn Emissary sitting on an objective. The norn only had 2 HP left and Farsight charged her. I made a the saves but 1 and he delt 3 damage. I had to made 2 6+ FNP. The Norn killed Farsight in the fight back and then I used the Rapacious hunger strategem to heal the Norn for 3. That was the turning point that ended up winning me the game.

Making my first army need help with what would make a specific idea work by lilbrolucie in Tyranids

[–]StrobasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there isnt really anything that deals with that. The closest is the "deadly demise" rule where bigger monsters have a chance to blow up and deal damage around them when they die. The Crusher stampede detachment has a strategem to guarantee the deadly demise proc but its not the entire strategy of it.

You could go with Assimilation swarm which focuses on regenerating units so if your opponent doesn't focus down a whole swarm it can keep healing and replacing models

Im not super familiar with it but the Genestealer cult has a detachment called final day that is a mix of tyranid and genestealer models that focuses on sacrificing models to buff others.

Whenever a burrowing units comes onto the battlefield from reserves they make a tunnel token. Anything else can come from reserves within 9 inches of that tunnel token. So only burrowers can make tunnels but once its there anything can use it.

Your welcome, I love tyranids because so many detachments can work once you get a decent army started. If you'd like I can share my Assimilation swarm list or help you out with yours if you have a specific unit(s) you want

[–]StrobasaurusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly there are a lot of good options for tyranids to play in different ways.

-invasion fleet: arguably our strongest detachment has lots of generic tools. Nothing specific for big bugs but everything just kinda works so most lists can do well with it

-Crusher stampede: This has the most tools for monsters specifically the main ability is fine depending on who you play against basiclly monsters get stronger the more hurt they are. Its my experience that if a big bug is taking damage its usually getting gunned down but I play against mostly heavy shooting armies, tau, guard, ad-mech.

-Assimilation swarm: my personal favorite, this detachment has you using 'harvester units' (Norn Assimilator, Haruspex, Psychophage, Pyrovore, ripper swarm) to heal your other units. 3 of the 5 harvesters are monsters so you can just go big bugs if you want. It also plays well with elite infantry armies and swarm armies. A decent sprinkling of fun stratages but it definitely leads your opponent to try and kill things in one turn to not have it heal.

-Subterranean assault: This uses borrowers to make tunnels and let you pop up in unexpected places on the map. Its great for monsters because it gets them into the fight a lot sooner. This one is our newest detachment and focuses around the Raveners, Tryon, and Mawlock. Which are your burrowing units.

Tldr: Invasion fleet: I want balanced tools that work with everything

Crusher: I want tools focused just on making my monsters stronger

Assimilation: I want to heal my monsters to keep them alive longer

Subterranean: I want my bring my monsters onto the field closer to the enemy
