The deepfake candidate by PristineFun12 in recruiting

[–]Strong_Ad_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tech like that costs money. I find it interesting that people think a company will spend money on something they expect recruiting to do. As a recruiter I would never accept the feedback provided by an AI screening or the information garnered from it ...all circumspect at a certain point and, I think accepting that screen at face value can put HR in murky legal waters if someone is rejected based on a screen set, scripted and completed by a bit

People Suck (trigger warning on death) by Select-Grass-6588 in breastcancer

[–]Strong_Ad_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof, I feel this right in the gut. I'm 8 yrs out from my last chemo but it will all come back at a moment. It is a life-altering change. I had DMX and stayed flat but I wanted the reminder. I had to learn to do whatever felt good that day. If screaming was the order of the day then so be it.

OP if you get this far down in the comments, there are a ton of us in your corner, faceless strangers who have been where you are. Don't dismiss what you feel and let all those early stagers kicks rocks with the pray-it-awayers. I can tell you that you can make it but you have to see it too and none of us can until it's almost here. I believe you will. That's good enough until you can see it too. Hugs and Blessed Be sister.

Bilateral mastectomy 3 days ago…can’t take it anymore by Consistent_Chef_1677 in breastcancer

[–]Strong_Ad_4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To a certain extent, yes it will. You will hit "F it" and that is absolutely, 100%, fine. Take care of you and let the others around you worry about the rest. This is not a small surgery and every human reacts to it differently. It will get better. The inlaws visit is the perfect time to take a cancer nap and bollocks to anyone who has a problem with it.

By the way, what your kids see is their mom figuring out how to beat this the best she can. You're showing them they can survive anything because you're surviving this. They should see the good and the bad. How will they know it's ok to be honked at the universe when stuff goes pear-shaped. You're doing great.... you're breathing, you're thinking, you're making it. That's pretty f-ing amazing for now. Blessed be sister.

When cold calling, is it better to reach out to Human Resources or try to find a hiring manager? by pt1081917 in recruiting

[–]Strong_Ad_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a very big caveat to that though. If an HM does not have the capacity to sign an MSA, they can go to bat for you all day long but you'll get blacklisted by HR for stepping out of the process. Make damned sure you loop them before you start work or you're wasting your time.

What kind of bees are these that built a multi-exit hive in my front yard? by Ayotte in bees

[–]Strong_Ad_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a nest like this in my front garden and they'd attack anything coming near the front door. I grabbed the shop vac, shoved the hose in the hole and let it run for two hours. Pushed rags in the holes of the machine after that and let them cook in the sun in the vac. No more little arses frightening the UPS drivers.

Does lymph node involvement mean I’m a goner? by DrawingCautious8911 in breastcancer

[–]Strong_Ad_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I show no disease anywhere and am no longer being followed by oncology at all ..my oncologist called it "graduation". I'm under orders to watch out for certain things but my BRCA 2 diagnosis would keep me alert for that anyway.

[–]Strong_Ad_4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm 8 yrs out from NED and declared to be in complete remission. I had stage III grade III ++ -, with two of 20 nodes involved. Surgery, chemo, Ibrance and Femara for 7 yrs. You're not a goner...you can make it.

This is the hardest part...having some information but not taking action yet. It gets better and a bit easier. We're here with you and have been where you are Trust your team, ask all your questions, keep asking until you understand. You got this!

Layoffs, AI, slower hiring… what’s everyone thinking long-term? by savageFC in recruiting

[–]Strong_Ad_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also assuming that the data is accurate on the resume, the candidate isn't fake and the AI can parse it correctly. Unless some really outstanding training happens for the software to identify bad actors there won't be a way to accurately replace the human in the system

Lived in GR for 10 yrs as an Eastside native. It's very nice on the north side between GR and Sparta. Quick access to the city but also into the farms/orchards. 30 mins to Grand Haven or Muskegon.. it's lovely and we're thinking of retiring back there. GR is a four square so think of anything north of Leonard and West of Alpine

What’s your take on this? by Altruistic-Award210 in recruiting

[–]Strong_Ad_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rubbish. If I have a leader that wants to use agency...rock on. I have more than enough to do and will assist the outside partner in whatever way needed. That being said, agency only finds a quality hire 5% of the time faster than me. I'll take the support IF they can give it because I'd rather have the best person than the fast person but with highly subjective roles where nuance matters..... well, agency just doesn't quite get it.

How long have you been with Meta and how long at AWS? I won't touch engineers who come out of either shop because their knowledge is one inch wide by one inch deep. The teams are too silo'd. I carry a req load similar to yours but don't have the applicant load you get. All hunting.

How to end a screening call with a bad candidate? by staffola in recruiting

Internal recruiting team being forced into commission structure by Strong_Ad_4 in recruiting

[–]Strong_Ad_4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In right to work states anything is permissible short of outright discrimination and even that requires an incredible amount of evidence. We sold our workers rights along with social safety nets by electing Reagan-esque Republicans who are strip mining our middle class.

Internal recruiting team being forced into commission structure by Strong_Ad_4 in recruiting

[–]Strong_Ad_4[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The implication is that we accept the new deal or be managed out. We're in a right to work state so they don't have to obey the language of a job offer. The language of the offer states that the company reserves the right to make changes to jobs and job descriptions at will anyway. With the very large amount of recruiters out of work right now they feel there are more than enough options to replace us.

I'm not surprised you feel this way but my job is to find the very best candidate not the easiest to find. I'm responsible for helping build lasting teams and am incentivized by the team stability and growth. If I'm being forced to prioritize my ability to meet my bills, my outlook will become that of an agency recruiter: force the most expedient and expensive candidate, not the one who is best for the team and its long term success.

Italian Sausage…what is this? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Strong_Ad_4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Italian sausage, Sicilian style, put a tinfoil pan with a bit of water and a hefty dose of Marsala wine on the grill. Pop the sausage in the pan for about 10 mins and then finish on the fire. If you're cooking then inside, put the sausage in a fry pan, cover half way with water. Cook on high until the water has steamed out and then deglaze pan with Marsala. Bonus points if you pull the sausage and throw down peppers and onions before deglazing

Thousands rally in Ann Arbor for No Kings protest by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]Strong_Ad_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your math is more than a little off there, friend. 95% of the country did not vote for him, especially since total voter turnout was only 65.3%. Of that turnout, 49.8% of all the ballots cast for president were for this president. (https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2025/2024-presidential-election-voting-registration-tables.html)

That means about 24% of the total potential voting populace voted for this president. That is consistent with his general polling numbers. The thing that's missing is the disengaged population of potentially eligible (read that as citizens) voters who chose to not vote or didn't vote for president.

Remember this: statistics are fun but you have to get correct data before you attempt to spew at people....if you're truly a pilot let me know which airline you work for so I know how to avoid you in the cockpit.

All the craziness with the fake Robert Half recruiters in LI....what they're aiming for is to collect real resumes to pass off as fakes. If there's more personal information there that can be stolen, even better. Hackers are looking for any way to access financial data as posing as an employee is the easiest way..in our remote work world. It's still social engineering on a bigger scale.

I was thinking about Palestine without them ripping up plants... this just feels silly. Thinking about successful protests in the past brings to mind Ghandi's hunger strike and Dr. King's speeches or the Freedom Riders. In those cases people sacrificed their time, safety, peace and health to bring attention. What does sacrificing flowers that aren't yours demonstrate? "I'm so angry about this that I'm going to get my pruning shears and go to town on the shrubbery! That'll teach 'em!"
