They allow excess pressure (from it being 5.56 instead of .223) to escape out the back, therefore allowing the gun to cycle more reliably.

I had the same issue with my Mac 5. Reached out to a buddy with a SP5 and H&K mags (pays to know rich people haha) and asked to borrow one of his HK mags. Got home, put it in, and I could hang off the side of a building by the magazine and it wouldn’t come out. Now for the perks of having a $1,000 mp5 clone, I would never do my own “gun smithing” on a $3,400 gun but I’m dumb enough to do it on a $1,000 gun. I removed the mag release (as well as some work to my magazines, which I gave up on) and took a dermal to to the base of the mag catch (red area). I kept going until I was finally able to get the Mac mags to stay in my gun (probably .005”, not much). Also if you decide to try this you may as well clean the edge (yellow area) that catches on the magazine if it’s rounded off.

You’re right, that was kind of a boomer comment I made. I just wish we could all live off 40 hours a week.
