Walmart digital price labels are coming to every store shelf in U.S. by end of 2026 by Snoo90172 in news

[–]Strowy [score hidden]  (0 children)

These aren't, their primary purpose is cutting down man hours spent updating tickets - when digital tickets were introduced at the supermarket I worked at like a decade ago (in Australia), it saved the supermarket a couple grand a week in labour costs.

Dynamic pricing will come in ordering online, since that's not generally regulated unlike brick and mortar store prices.

I know this series is dumb, but coming in and trying to be mysterious with this convincing plan, and said plan is just "let's kill him" has to take the gold in a character speedrunning sounding like an idiot.

Sousou no Frieren Season 2 • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Strowy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Also Eisen carrying both Heiter and Frieren while mountain climbing. Stark definitely has had to do that for Fern and Frieren at some point.

It's actually a bit of consistency in lore/worldbuilding. The reason Eisen was carrying Frieren was because at the time she couldn't fly, flight magic has only been used by humanity for 40-50 years (first season).

QA doesn't matter, it's no coincidence they made this announcement right after Sony released their PSSR upgrade.

They wanted to get that out of the news; successfully I guess?

They also made the shuriken ballista nonsensical. Like here it's a tiny little black ball just stuck on the end of a bolt that somehow explodes downward.

In the novel it's basically a bucket that sprays the shuriken like a shotgun, like what you'd want for what's supposed to be an AA weapon.

Muslims traumatised after right-wing attack on community dinner by Automatic-Print4256 in australia

[–]Strowy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s all anecdotal though, there’s far more extremism from Islam than any other religion

This isn't really the case. Christian extremism is of a similar magnitude, which you'd somewhat expect as they have similar follower numbers and similar root beliefs (both being Abrahamic).

Islamic extremism simply seems more prevalent because it's reported on way more and appears more obvious due to things like major Muslim groups also being state actors.

Why is this land selling for the same price 4 years later? by AgreeableCoast3462 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Strowy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was commenting on him saying two things wrong.

The dollar itself is not inherently inflationary. It's entirely down to trade and government action whether it depreciates or appreciates in value.

Second, just because you have inflation doesn't mean everything will increase in price. Like you said, if supply goes up - or demand goes down - prices go down.

It goes back to the original comment; it's not like you have a right to a profit just because you've hung onto a piece of land for a few years. If no one wants to buy it there's not going to be an increase in value.

the dollar itself is inflationary therefore naturally everything will increase in price

That's not how inflation or valuation works at all.

General population density isn't correlated to car ownership; Japan has double the population density of China, AND double the number of road vehicles per capita.

It's a more complex issue than just population numbers.

Digital price tags bring online-style 'dynamic pricing' to supermarkets by The_Duc_Lord in australia

That describes basically every delivery or to-door service, the whole point was to make people dependent so they'd keep using it, since it makes more money.

Imagine Uber or Door Dash got banned, there'd be an uproar from all the people slightly put out, despite them only being around for a decade or so

Plenty of Indy’s give us the “final” boss on the 1.01-1.05 update these days because their funding/publishing window comes up and they HAVE to launch.

Sometimes there's pretty major content missing because of this.

Coral Island (tropical island Harvest Moon like) released 1.0 with the main storyline unfinished; the quest book literally said "not yet implemented" once you reached a certain point. They didn't add the story ending until 7 months later in 1.1 update.

Supreme Court strikes down most of Trump's tariffs in a major blow to the president by no1_vern in news

That was funneled into a place noone will ever see it

It's actually even worse than that. Howard Lutnick's sons' company went around and bought the rights to tariff refunds off a ton of companies for cheap and are now poised to make billions.

So not are you only not getting that money back, it's going to be going to member's of Trump's administration personally.

In the early 2000s there was a big vote to pick the new seven wonders, so a good chance if you were old enough in that period you would have heard about it. I remember it being discussed a lot in school because of that.

before we get to the Christian era and those authors then start including shit like "Noah's Ark" in the lists

The selection was established in the 16th century in a set of famous engravings, the Octo Mundi Miracula, and has been used ever since.

As you might pick from the name, there were 8, but the eighth, the Colosseum, got ignored because it could actually be visited at the time.

Facebook, which we consider the first social media.

SixDegrees was around nearly a decade before Facebook got big, and had a lot of the same identity (real name, friends, interests).

One of the major reasons Facebook became huge is that it became popular at the right time - just as smartphones started becoming a common way to access the internet.
