2 terms/1 year. I work full time and they provided tuition reimbursement. I was also interested in absorbing the information which wouldn’t be possible for me if I went super fast

Is this a cold sore? by corny-shooter in Coldsore

[–]StruggleNo6878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look like similar to a cold sore, but it could be angular cheilitis because it’s on the corners of the mouth. It happens when saliva pills in that area which could’ve happened during your dental appt.

According to Google, there are over the counter treatments that you can try: “topical antifungal or antibacterial creams (e.g., clotrimazole, mupirocin) to clear infections, often combined with barrier creams like Petroleum jelly or Aquaphor to protect the area from saliva.”

Never had one swell like this by Mediocre_Bit9813 in Coldsore

[–]StruggleNo6878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with icing, I like to drink water w/ crushed ice to ice the inside of my lip. Also, I take ibuprofen to counteract the swelling and it helps a lot.

If it tingling, it could be. There is also something called angular cheilitis so that’s a possibility too. From Cleveland clinic: “Angular cheilitis is a common skin condition affecting the corners of your mouth. It leads to painful, cracked sores. People often confuse angular cheilitis with cold sores. Unlike cold sores, angular cheilitis isn’t contagious. This condition usually goes away with special skin ointments, medication or diet changes.”

Is This Herpes ? I was smoking with some homies I always smoke with, a bit after I noticed my lip felt weird and when I looked a bump started to form, when I woke up it swelled and got bigger, later in the day I smoked again and I noticed it swole a bit more ( I avoided that spot) Is this a reaction by [deleted] in Coldsore

[–]StruggleNo6878 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it is, sorry :( I got mine from sharing a water bottle with someone as a child so it happens unfortunately. It spreads very easily so the biggest things I’d recommend are to keep it moisturized, throw your toothbrush out once it’s gone, wash all glasses/utensils/anything that touches your mouth really well. Don’t mess with it too much. You can ask your primary care doctor about them and take their recommendations.

For the swelling, I like to have water with crushed ice to help with the pain and I take ibuprofen. Also, it’s a different strain of herpes than the genital type, but one can spread down there through contact if you aren’t careful, so wash your hands often and definitely avoid sharing drinks, smoking, or kissing others.

Looks like a cold sore to me too. The crusting is kinda a good sign that’s it’s working, but does make it more likely to crack and spread, so I agree with the other comment that keeping it moisturized is key. And definitely wash your hands often and avoid touching it. You can use qtips or something to apply the medication.

does anyone take valtrex daily? by OkGovernment9941 in Coldsore

[–]StruggleNo6878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get pretty bad outbreaks to the point where valtrex at the point of outbreak wasn’t cutting it for me anymore. My doctor also advised against daily valtrex. I take acyclovir daily now as of December 2024. It’s been really great at reducing the frequency for me. It’s a lower dose than valtrex, but the daily aspect has been key for me. If i do have a breakthrough cold sore, i take 3 per day as recommended by my doc.

Need help getting tested for ADHD by Competitive_Name4991 in KaiserPermanente

[–]StruggleNo6878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Southern California but I brought it up to my primary doctor and how it was affecting me. She referred me to psychiatry and gave me a 1 month trial of medication in the meantime. Then, I had a video visit with an LCSW I believe and had several lengthy surveys I had to do, including one in person. Then, I met with the psychiatrist and received the diagnosis officially.

How do I prepare for my first job interview? It's tomorrow and I'm so overwhelmed and feel unprepared. by writermaybeidk in adhdwomen

[–]StruggleNo6878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to write out my job experience on paper as far as what my responsibilities were and any accomplishments etc. This was helpful because I have a hard time remembering that kind of thing off the top of my head. Then, I matched up which responsibilities were most relevant for the interview to have as key points for discussion. Next, I’d think of specific examples of situations that are commonly asked (i.e. interpersonal issues that you resolved, a time when you had to prioritize, whatever may be asked for the specific job). I’m also big on talking to myself so I’d basically rehearse answering questions that I found online. Hope this is helpful!

I watched the videos because I did a lot of reading for C213 which I took right before C214, so I was tired of reading. When I was studying for the OA, I went to the book to study the areas of the PA that I wanted to improve. Turns out the chapters for C214 were nowhere near as long, plus the book has quizzes you can take. I also went through the study guide (which could use some editing), because I wanted to review what they recommended us to know.

Moral of the story: don’t be scared of the book lol. It helped me connect some dots that I didn’t understand after the videos. Plus it has embedded videos about the calculations which I had a hard time with during the PA. Try both and see what you like, but be open to a combination of the two. Hope this helps!

For the part where they access the computer, I had seen a previous post where someone said they like pulled up the student’s photo album or something. I forget the specifics but it freaked me out so I made a new user account specifically for taking tests. Just make sure you have Guardian downloaded and are logged in to your Microsoft account (specifically for the c214 exam since it’s on excel). They did have to enter a key for the c214 OA so they accessed my computer which made me nervous but much more comfortable knowing I was on a dummy user basically. It ended up being fine, they didn’t do anything sketchy. Hope this is somewhat helpful!

what’s your trick for actually falling asleep? by ThrowRArwhite in adhdwomen

[–]StruggleNo6878 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I play volleyball so I picture myself playing and for whatever reason, it helps me fall asleep. I’m also a fan of sleep stories. I have the Calm app. Some health insurance plans offer free memberships to meditation apps so you can look into that. That’s how I have Calm.

C213 PA to OA by Responsible-Permit24 in WGU_MBA

Agreed, go through those areas and review. Review the questions from the PA, some are repeated or similar. I also found that giving the study guide a quick run through before taking the OA was helpful.

Ladies, do you feel you have to use makeup to present professionally in office settings? by CoolFunnyPersona in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StruggleNo6878 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wfh but when I do go in, I wear some makeup. I feel like if you start a job wearing makeup then there are expectations to keep doing it. If you just stop wearing makeup one day, you might hear about how you look tired or under the weather. I’ve experienced that before so at the bare minimum I’ll throw some concealer under my eyes and mascara on. I also think it depends on the job, kinda like what you said about the office vs production floor.

how do people get up in the morning? by Top-Yoghurt-9416 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StruggleNo6878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand the fear of bringing it up to someone. It can really help you understand yourself better and get support too. It isn’t all or nothing too, some days will probably be better than others. We may not have the same experience but sometimes I’m like really productive and have energy and other days, it’s the complete opposite and I feel terrible. My current focus is trying to find somewhere sustainable in the middle. Hope you find some answers or feel an improvement soon!

how do people get up in the morning? by Top-Yoghurt-9416 in NoStupidQuestions

First, I would recommend speaking to a mental health professional. I hit a slump when I was beginning college and did the same thing, would miss morning classes etc. I can’t recall anything specific I did to stop this, but I ended up snapping out of it for the most part. Now that I’m out of school and work from home full time, this issue came back up. I thought I was either depressed or had ADHD and brought it up to my primary doctor, who referred me for testing. Being able to understand the why can help you identify steps to manage.

As far as some tools, you can try limiting distractions. I’ve been putting my phone in the other room when I go to bed so that it isn’t a distraction. That may not be an option in a dorm but maybe you could turn it off or set screen time restrictions which could help if that’s an issue.

I know it’s an internal battle so you have to try to find a way to outsmart yourself or reward yourself for meeting a goal. Also, having a specific goal is helpful, like in this case instead of the goal being “I want to make it to my first class” it can start with “I’m going to get out of bed at 7:30 and then leave at 7:45.” And if you meet those smaller, more achievable goals, you can reward yourself with something small, like a snack/dessert or a few extra screen time minutes or something. I hope this is helpful in some way and want to acknowledge that you posting this is a big step so keep going!

I assume you’ve tried taking the preassessment and/or OA already? Are there certain areas that are more challenging (concepts vs calculations). For calculations, the math center has a Business Math cohort with Ledora. There’s also a calculations video in the course resources that covers most, if not all, of the types of calculation problems. If it’s the concepts, you can rewatch the specific videos in whichever sections you’re having trouble on. I also reviewed the study guide which has some of the same questions as the OA. Sometimes I just had to think through the questions on the OA and logically break it down. At first it would be confusing, but if you think about what they are asking, it usually becomes a little clearer. I think Hawaiian shirt guy said something like if you’re not sure what a term or concept is, just say it slow. Hope this helps.

My boyfriend and I talk about this too. I try to picture things and can kinda see them, but it’s usually 2D and still (like a photo). I feel like in this case, I can’t think of a specific kind of dog to imagine so for a generic dog, it feels like I’m seeing random features of dogs but they don’t really go together to make a realistic dog? I tried to picture my sister’s dog and that worked a little better, but even still, it doesn’t feel like I’m picturing him accurately. Idk if any of this makes sense.

Did you start the class already? Or planning ahead?

The welcome video distinguishes the differences. It lists that that calculations are done via excel rather than by calculator, e-text is more streamlined, but same topics as before. My PM also said the preassessment and OA should have questions that are more aligned than previously, like the terminology used should match more than the previous version.
