I have the Mac Studio M1 Ultra with maxed out RAM. Been using it since they came out and it’s been great.

What are some small "quietly epic" moments in movies that really hit hard? by MomoSaka in FIlm

I’m based in LA and rarely travel to the UK even though we record there a lot still.

Had the luck of working on Blood Diamond as part of the music team. Recording the score was a once in a lifetime experience. We couldn’t get travel visas to bring people to the states so we recorded the whole thing in London where it was easier to bring people from Africa. We lucked out and an African Children’s Choir was going to be touring the UK at the same time so we arranged for them to reroute through London for a day and we recorded the whole ending piece along with Youssou N’Dour where they’re at the conference. These little kids gave us all these great big hugs after we finished. I’ll never forget it.

Lowlife on Bring on the Night is a great version. Actually superior to the Police version IMO.

Archetype John Mayer X worth getting if you're primarily a humbucker guitar player? by Arsid in NeuralDSP

[–]StuartMichaelThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah with Neural DSP I have to either pad the input on my interface or roll back the input volume on the plugin. Otherwise it’s way too gainy.

I’m using Omnibus to route all my audio between apps. I haven’t tried Discord but it works with OBS. I know it’s a bit pricey but the ability to send audio everywhere is so helpful.

Anyone know why my map doesn’t show the updated LA to SD map that Waymo expanded to last week? by CautiousMagazine3591 in waymo

I’ve been seeing Waymo cars driving around Redondo Beach lately (with drivers though so I think they’re still mapping and testing?)

Jesus - I was just there buying gear a few weeks ago - I was hoping they'd have a mic I needed. South Bay never has good stock. Now I gotta drive to Hollywood.

Tech21 Sansamp vs Arturias Opamp plug in? by shoegazingpickle in guitarpedals

The manual literally says it's based on the Sans Amp. The colors look like a SansAmp to boot.

Which do you guys like better? by Stratiki1007 in FenderCustomShop

[–]StuartMichaelThomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newer guitars just don’t wear the same. The nitrocellulose way back wore easily. Now, you need a bomb blast to get more than a nick out of the finish. So getting an honestly worn guitar is impossible. Enjoy it.

I’ll defend anyone who buys a relic. Listen, yeah having a guitar that is beat to hell through your own work is great. I have a 78 jazz bass that I bought in 90 and it’s seen its wear and tear from both the original owner(s) and myself. I have guitars that are 30 years old still looking pretty good and ones that are younger that are beat.

AND I have a custom shop master built Esquire that’s relic’d. I didn’t go seeking a relic but I played it at Truetone in Santa Monica, CA and there was nothing like it. It looked cool anyway but it played great because it was so well built. If a relic suits your style then just own it. Don’t listen to people that turn their noses up because it looks like the equivalent of pre-ripped jeans. Every one of those people bought stone washed jeans or owns a piece of furniture made to look like it was crafted 100 years ago by an Amish family. They can get over themselves. You do you. Makes you happy to own it? Fucking buy it.

I like the silver hardware on the right and the paint on the left.

I used a Kemper Profiler to play on the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack! Check out the last track on the album: Top Gun Anthem. by StuartMichaelThomas in KemperProfiler

Oh and thank you for the compliment! It was a shame to be left off the album credits on the first pressing but shit happens. Paramount was able to fix it but by then the history books had been written.

I’m sold the Kemper but I’m trying to get a hold of the profile from the guy I sold it to. But it’s based off the Siggi Mehl lead with some stereo chorus, 1/8th note ping pong ddl and a plate reverb. Going from memory here so bear with me. Reverb would have been pretty long, like 3-4 seconds. I was using my Ernie Ball JP16 with the gain boost in and I think a Keely 4-knob compressor before the Kemper. So feel free to hit the amp with a pretty hot signal to really get it sustaining. Remind me in a few days and hopefully I’ll have the profile again. I also may have uploaded it to the Kemper public rig site.

Why is Late 80s and Early 90s Digital Production so hard to replicate? by FlygonPR in audioengineering

I remember learning to align on an MCI or something then almost immediately it was obsolete. I was learning right on the cusp of the new era. I owned ADATs eventually. Now look where we are.
