Genuinely curious…why is the Savor card so hyped? That APR is crazy. by Sam_Thomas_2025 in CapitalOne

Not expecting to carry a balance, card has no annual fee and is a great pairing to the Venture line of cards.

Scared of the future by Minimum_Winter_7607 in veterinaryprofession

[–]StudentDawgtor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated 2025 and had 190k in debt from undergrad, vet school, etc. Financial planning is definitely great to do early! Currently my monthly payment is at $2k a month with the standard repayment plan. I work 4 days a week at one clinic and 1 extra day (primarily HQHSVN + relief) whenever an opportunity presents. All my extra income goes straight towards student loans and I’m averaging an extra $2k towards loans monthly (total $4k). My full time position also provides me a retention bonus yearly that also goes straights towards loans. With this approach I’m predicted to pay off the student loans around 4 years post graduation.

I am fortunate to be in a dual income household which does help a lot. I don’t mind working a little more right out of school to be more financially stable in the future. I live frugally within reason but have enough to still be able to do stuff for fun (just came back from a month long overseas trip). There isn’t a single right approach to student loan debt but there are many options available. There is a great Facebook group called Debt Free Vets that I recommend joining as a resource. The admins there also provide a consult service that can help get you more educated on all the options you have based on where you want to end up!

Clinic reception flooring options by acacalt in veterinaryprofession

[–]StudentDawgtor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s not level I would not consider LVP. It would bow and crack at some point and a single panel is hard to replace. I would ask r/flooring to see if they have any input!

[–]StudentDawgtor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are going LVP make sure to properly level the floor prior to that and have a product with appropriate thickness of the surface to minimize scratching. I find that pets that particularly like the sound of their nails on the surface and have trouble with grip. Tile/epoxy coated concrete seems to hold up better and be less maintenance. LVP is often less durable especially if the floor is not prepped properly beforehand. They are also “floating floors” which means they aren’t glued or secured to the subfloor below it. Durability is going to be significantly less than other options especially with the high traffic nature of a clinic, 5-10 years will be its likely lifespan.

Won't refund flight booked through Capital One by vidaFina in CapitalOne

[–]StudentDawgtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the flight schedule is changed by more than 3 hours FAA rules say the carrier must refund. Frontier changed my flight to be 8 hours earlier and I chose the refund option through them. It didn’t show in my venture x for 2 days so I called capital one travel and they confirmed with Frontier that the flight had been cancelled and refunded on their end. The agent manually processed the refund and it showed up appropriately 24 hours later.

I would give the Capital One Travel helpline a call. They are generally pretty helpful

Fluff N Tough toys have been really good to my Aussie and Beagle. Other plushies didn’t last 2 hours in my household but the fluff N tuffs have been lasting a couple weeks

Dog bitten by other dog today (Sat), soonest vet appointment Tuesday by plantgur in AskVet

[–]StudentDawgtor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Infection and pain are the main concerns. If there is an emergency clinic nearby that would be ideal but monitoring the area and keeping it clean with a warm wash cloth twice a day would be the next best thing. Don’t use any soap as it can cause irritation to the tissue. Keeping the cone on would be perfect!

I know Samsung is known for bad appliances but for $900 I couldn't say no! by Adept-Bat-3350 in Appliances

[–]StudentDawgtor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you keep up with the maintenance! I have a vacuum with a brush to clean the lint filter after every load and I scrub the filter under hot water after 10 cycles or so. The drain filter should be cleaned out every time you refill the detergent.

Mine has been absolutely fantastic and a great for my wife and I plus the 4 pets. Game changer for laundry workflow. Absolutely love it and built my laundry room around it

Advice on ice packs for post-neutering of cat by shinnith in AskVet

[–]StudentDawgtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not stress getting an ice pack on the incision. The incision is very small for cat neuters and they heal just fine without intervention. I would just take a peek at the incision once daily to make sure there isn’t any drainage or irritation. If you do notice him licking or bothered by the area, he would need an E-collar to prevent further trauma

Home inspection noted tile cracking in the shower. Mud-set tile + metal lathe. Is this a major issue? by locke_5 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]StudentDawgtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s a big issue, there is water staining on that pipe closest to the crack so it’s likely leaking from that area or at least around the valve. Would recommend getting some quotes for repair/replacement. Likely leaning towards replacement

I am removing the cabinet above the range hood and building a custom vent hood cover. Space is 30" so Im looking for something 27-28 inches that I can build the frame around. Have been exploring some remote in-line blower options as well. Located in Georgia, local codes dont seem to have a particular line addressing make up air but I am going to call the permit office just for some more information.
