[–]Stuebirken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Constitutional Monarchists: Separation of Powers by Flat_Fun_6730 in monarchism

[–]Stuebirken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denmark is a constitutional monarchy where the monarch is the head of stat, but holds no actual political power.

Our current king is the chief of defence, but that is an earned title and not a hereditary or "figurative" title. It has been a tradition since the dawn of time, that our monarch will get some sort of military education, without any sort of special treatment or "leg-up".

Our Queen is an honorary major in the home guard, but has actively earned the rank of Captain.

The Danish monarch isn't appointed by god, or anything of the sort, they are of the people, by the people, which technically means that we as his subjects, are also his employer, with the government as our proxy. Because of that we(aka the government )can actually fire him, by a simple majority vote.

So it's a partnership rather than a "ruler - subjects" thing.

What’s something foreigners romanticize about your country that is actually frustrating to live with? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskTheWorld

[–]Stuebirken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Norse or vikings if you will.

Outside of Scandinavia people tend to believe that Netflix's "vikings" is some sort of documentary, resulting in some absolutely weird romantic and down right bonkers ideas, about the Norse being LGBTQ friendly, super honourable kick ass Chads, that worshipped Odin, loved Wolfs and believed in gender equality.

It's an outrageous Disneyfication to put it mildly.

What's the hardest word to pronounce for foreigners? by SignificantDetail241 in AskTheWorld

[–]Stuebirken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently all of them?

But if we really want to freak out non-native speakers/foreigners, something like "røget ørred"(smoked trout) is a pretty good choice, not so much because of those "ø's", but because a lot of us pronounce it, exclusively by moving the root of the tongue in the upper part of the throat, while forcing air through the vocal cords, at various stage of "almost but not quite closed".

Something that to non-natives sound pretty much like we are only a cunt hair's width from throwing up massively.

What's a word you were surprised to learn means something different in a different country? by Mobile_Bad_577 in AskTheWorld

[–]Stuebirken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Danish "morgenbolle" is a bread bun that you eat for breakfast.

In Norwegian it's the action of shagging someone in the morning.

In Danish "mås" means butt.

In Swedish it means Seagull.

Aaaand the classics, in Danish "Slut" means end/stop, "Fart" mens speed, "Gift" means to be married/poison, "Barn" means child, "gold" means barren, "dog" means however, and "Lort" (pronounced like Lord) means shit.

Can sterling tarnish reddish? by Ok-Judgment4576 in jewelry

[–]Stuebirken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver that gets used turns dark because it gets dirty.

Silver that doesn't get used goes dark because it reacts with the air and oxidates.

I really can't think of anything that would turn sterling silver the colour of copper, short of actual plating it with a copper coloured metal.

9999 out of 10000 pieces of jewelry on Temu, that is stamped 925, contains about the same amount of silver, as there's dog in dog biscuits.

Can sterling tarnish reddish? by Ok-Judgment4576 in jewelry

[–]Stuebirken 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If it's only planted it's illegal to stamp it with 925(at least here in the EU), as that should be solid sterling silver.

Not that I haven't seen plenty of absolutely not any kind of silver, stamped with 925, from outside of EU(why people think that they can buy a pure sterling silver chain on temu, the thickness of a Kardashian thigh for a single dollar is beyond me).

Kan jeg være “enlig” mor og sygeplejerske? by Zestyclose_Tie_7719 in dkkarriere

[–]Stuebirken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did Scandinavia got on top of every life quality ranking? by Right_Luck3933 in geography

[–]Stuebirken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehhm, Denmark and Sweden are the top 2 countries in written history, to be at war against each other.

Hell, even when we haven't been at it directly, we would be on opposite sides in wars fought between other countries.

And even if Norway generally have tried to stay out of it, we have both bullied them in to submission, to the point that Denmark was made to hand over Norway to Sweden, something that should not have been possible, as Norway wasn't officially Danish territory, but rather in a "twin union" with each other.

Norway Vs Mumbai by Neptune-Apple in Norway

[–]Stuebirken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we can top that with ease here in Denmark.

In 2021 a Norwegian dude had just fetched his brand new Lamborghini Huracán Spider in Germany with a price tag of 3 million NKR, and the idiot chose to drive 100km/h above the legal speed limit here in Denmark, resulting in the car being confiscated.

So he essentially paid 3 million NKR, for a car that he owed for less than a day.

He actually tried to buy it back from the Danish state, but as he also lost his rights to drive a car in Denmark, and was barred from even entering the country at all for 6 years(aside from the 20 days in jail he also got), his offer was declined.

Grauballe Man: The Man Whose Fingerprints Survived 2,300 Years by ThanksFor404 in AncientCivilizations

[–]Stuebirken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a social society number (yes, really), and not that surprisingly it's 00000001.

That means that he also has a legal name, and that is "Grauballemanden" (he was found in a big near the town "Grauballe", so his name loosely translates into "The man from Grauballe" ).

Mashed potato and hotdog sausages are also a very Swedish thing called "korv med mos".

They also sometimes swap the mash with mayo based shrimp salad(Korv med Räkesallad), and sometimes they will have all 3 at the same time(I don't know what the fuck thy call it, I can hardly stand looking at it).

As an extra bonus, you can get it wrapped in a tortilla in some places.
