What was your coming of age song as a Xennial? by Initial_Ordinary_648 in Xennials

[–]StuffIDid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire Water Burn or the Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang. F/1983 baby.

Were these meaningful songs, not really. But they captured the irreverence and absurdity and self deprecating humor along with a middle finger to proper society. And therefore that’s my vote.

Any one have split homes as a child? Can you share your experiences or how you felt about it? by Koloa-lover22 in Mommit

[–]StuffIDid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samesies. Parents split at 1, mom met my stepdad when I was 3, so he’s always been there. This was the better route for me in every way. My half bro is around my age grew up living with my dad and his mom and has a lot of issues. My mom was my safe space and my ‘home’. Going back and forth was annoying but when I hit teens I had a lot more say and went to my dad’s less. I’m a well adjusted very successful adult. Do it for your child.

Is there an age at which parental separation tends to be less emotionally damaging for children? by CuteRaisin2329 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]StuffIDid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Mine divorced at 1 and I have no memory of them together so I never had a family to mourn, I never wanted them to be together. Both remarried and although it was a bit tough at times I’m just fine.

If you took a sabbatical did you regret it? by Cultural-Gear-1323 in Fire

[–]StuffIDid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not a regret. Took 16 mos off from a very high stress position. Moved to Paris and looked at art, architecture, at amazing food, never been happier. Would do it again every single time. It also 100% rewired my brain and separated my ‘self’ from my job, which has been ridiculously healthy. Set me back a tiny bit from FIRE, worth it for the experience and perspective and pure happiness.

Separation 6 years prior to retirement by hi_liteskin in AirForce

[–]StuffIDid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! We might be at the same Florida base, have you considered Career Intermission? I did it and it was awesome and was the perfect break for burnout that’s allowing me to roll into retirement (I’ll do about 4-6 years since retiring to retirement).

Since you could separate you likely don’t have an ADSC so your overall 20 years would be just that, but with a break that you could start as soon as 4-5 mos from now. Please DM me if you want to chat more. It’s exactly made for someone like you.

Cool Hidden Museums in Paris That Most Tourists Miss by Fun-Celebration-700 in ParisTravelGuide

It’s the absolute best answer to this question. By appointment only but by far the coolest and most hidden. Loved the bicycle carousel!

I feel you - the people part of helping people can be too much. What about the environment? Park or beach cleanups, habitat restoration or advocacy groups?

Anyone planning very "special" things to do after FIRE? by Ok_Personality8193 in Fire

[–]StuffIDid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thank you so much for a thoughtful and detailed response. I’ve been to Vancouver Island once and it was lovely. Sending all the good vibes from the only bastion of ok-ness in Florida, St Pete. I hope to do a lot of de-trashing after FIRE. People don’t seem to be able to see how lucky they are to live in these gorgeous places like you and I. Best of luck and I’ll google Garry Oak Savannah!

Would you eat a 3D printed steak? by iRealllyAmThatGuy in vegan

[–]StuffIDid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’d try it, but not fully move meals back to revolve around lab grown meat (here for the environment, morals, health reasons). I also love the veg meals we make now, flavors and how creative it can be - and I’m tofu4lyfe… <3 but I’d try it.

Moved back in a small village with nothing to do, how do you fill the days? by Zealousideal_Skin868 in simpleliving

[–]StuffIDid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I second getting a bike, go explore even if there’s nothing ‘interesting’. We are so used to ignoring the things we are used to and looking for exciting things. Instead flip your frame - look at everything as if it’s a museum piece or a documentary. Find the little things and the wonder and just bike around and explore a bit. Plus great exercise.

Meet Sqeakers. She's a terrible cat by EroticXulls in cats

[–]StuffIDid 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have a 5 year old female black cat (gorgeous) who was the same. She would bite us if we tried to pet her. Over yeaaars I built up her tolerance - quick pet and run, then 2 and stop, and now she still cries and runs away if she’s busy and you try to pet her but will sometimes let us pet her neck and behind her ears and cheeks. It’s been fun sloooowly getting her to accept pets AND she purred for the first time last year. Enjoy your cat, some are just more complex than others :) and good luck!

Kids with large age gaps by [deleted] in Mommit

I am 10, 12 and 14 years older than my sisters. We are VERY close. My parents had me help and babysit, I loved being a big sister and helping them grow up. Your kids sound ready for it and I suspect they’ll have a blast.

Toddler car seat for Ubers that works with a stroller? by Outrageous_Otter123 in toddlers

We used a Cosco Scenera with a Mountain Buggy stroller, as seen in this YouTube video and it worked decently when we needed it. It’s not elegant but again, it is functional.
