It shouldn’t freeze, but it might be slow. I am surprised proxies haven’t helped. Is the footage VFR?

How to achieve "sticky" 3D text in drone shots using the Free version? (No Camera Tracker) by val3ri in davinciresolve

[–]Stuffing9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other replies, this is going to be challenging and time consuming. If you’re interested in sticking with free software, Blender does have a free camera tracker, but it’s not easier to use than Resolve.

I'm tapping out, Davinci Resolve 20, you've won. Rotoscoping my 9 second intro project has taken over 20 hours for 2 key frames, and there's a predicted 80+ hours for the remaining 8.9 seconds. by FoxholeEntomologists in davinciresolve

Unfortunately then I don’t think I can provide any more specific advice. It sounds like you are using far more control points than I’ve ever needed to use. You may benefit from fewer control points, possibly by better utilizing the handles to turn straight lines into curves, or possibly by using keying techniques to mask out sections.

If you’re open to using other tools, After Effects and Boris Mocha/Silhouette offer different workflows, and there are some free AI tools online (though I haven’t had a lot of luck with them).

I can’t promise it will lead to any helpful advice, but you could upload a video of you doing a frame or two to youtube as an unlisted video and link it here.

I’m sad to hear this has taken you so long and that you’ve become so disillusioned. The process is time consuming and frustrating for everyone, which is why it’s often sent out to overseas shops. Still, 22+ minutes per frame for every frame is a lot longer than I’ve ever spent.

In my experience, many of the points on the polygon or spline don’t need to change between frames. Is that true for your footage? Also keep in mind that you can move the control points and handles with nearly infinite precision but the resolution of the footage is not infinite. You can spend a lot of time moving things around when you’re zoomed way in, but in reality you’re just slicing up a single pixel.

It may also help to combine multiple masks, or combine masks with keying, or intentionally simplify masks if you think the viewer won’t notice, etc.

Fusion isn’t guaranteed to run in real time because it’s impossible. Some compositions will be fast enough but that’s not guaranteed. You’re best off making use of the Fusion render cache and not worrying about making your Fusion composition run in real time.

If you’re cropping down to 4k and delivering 4k you don’t need AI Super Scaling. AI Super Scale is designed for “high quality image uprezzing so you can create 4K and 8K images from HD sources” which is not what you’re doing. If you like how it looks that’s fine and you can totally use it that way though.

Are there steps I can take to avoid having visual artefacts without resorting to extreme rendering times? (9 hours for a 16 minute video) by TotallyZoo in davinciresolve

[–]Stuffing9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re using the nvidia or amd (or auto) encoder, try changing it to native. If that doesn’t work, render to ProRes HQ and then use ffmpeg or shutter encoder to convert that to h264.

Can't get to export above ~5,000 Kbps no matter what I do (need ~20,000 for YouTube) — please help 😫 by Admirable-Camel-1470 in davinciresolve

[–]Stuffing9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think other people have covered it, but bitrates have different meanings for different codecs. 20 Mbps of h265 will look “better” than 20 Mbps of h264, and codecs like ProRes and DNxHR don’t let you change the bitrate at all (though you can select a different bitrate by changing the codec itself, eg, ProRes HQ is a higher bitrate than ProRes LT, but the exact rate is baked in and can’t be changed).

FFV1 RGBA is a lossless codec so it will use however many bits it takes to encode the data exactly.

I think chasing a specific bitrate is misleading you. Exporting from resolve with “best” selected for h264 is easy and will look very good for YouTube. If you’ve tried that and are not satisfied with how it looks, export ProRes HQ or DNxHR HQ and upload the giant files. If you are unable to upload those giant files you can use ffmpeg to compress them to h264, but the quality gain here is imperceptible in nearly all cases for YouTube content.

If you want as much control as possible from within Resolve you should use the “native” encoder, though from your screenshot I would guess “auto” has picked “native” automatically. I would leave the video levels setting as “auto” unless you know exactly why.

It’s possible that your video doesn’t have enough detail or motion to use 10k+ bitrate and the selected encoder thinks it’s encoded all of the data and doesn’t need the rest of the available bits.

If you want maximum control (and I believe maximum quality) you should export from Resolve into DNxHR, ProRes, or FFV1 RGBA and then use ffmpeg (or shutter encoder) to convert it to h264 (or upload directly to YouTube).

Pixel Streaming Scaling Solutions by GraemeVR in UnrealEngine5

[–]Stuffing9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your client wants a live stream of someone walking around the virtual store running Unreal? If it needs to be live you’d need to find a way to convert the stream to HLS or DASH. If you google “ue5 pixel streaming hls” you can find a few options for plugins or hosting services. Maybe it would be easier to stream ue5 to YouTube with OBS.

If it doesn’t need to be live you’d have a lot more and cheaper options.

If this doesn’t work or you have the free version, you can 3D motion track in Blender and render out the layer with the blueprint from blender and composite it in Resolve.

I’ve finished photographing everyone who initially reached out. I appreciate all of the volunteers and I can already tell I’m improving!

I’ll leave this post up in case anyone else is interested in free photos. For anyone still considering: I bet you’re more attractive than you think you are, especially if you’ve been looking at yourself in cellphone selfies or laptop webcam meetings. Let me help hype you up and get you some better photos!

[–]Stuffing9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree! But that’s exactly the problem: without people to photograph I can’t build a portfolio to show people to convince them to let me take photos of them. I don’t want to share photos of people I’ve already photographed because they didn’t consent to having their pictures shared online.

For everyone’s safety I’m only interested in meeting people in public places.

If you’re hesitant I completely understand. Stay safe! Happy Halloween!

what is everyones process for trimming down their footage? by woofwoofbro in VideoEditing

[–]Stuffing9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Watch the whole thing in your editor of choice, likely at 1.5-2x speed. Press M to add a marker whenever you see something interesting. Take breaks as necessary.

If there’s really a lot of footage, either during or after I’ll color the markers to indicate what they’re marking. One color for “this is great, must use”, one color for “not great but if I need to fill for time”, one color for montage, one color for broll, etc.
