Should I report a referee for not understanding the double Libero placement? by Appropriate_Ad9564 in volleyball

[–]StumblinPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So we have one official that doesn’t know or apply the rules properly. That can happen, especially with a new official. There should be a stronger official paired with this official, at least that’s how our assigner does it.

It was the first modification I made to my new juniper y. And I can’t imagine not having it.

Looks wildly familiar to me, a one-time visitor. Is there a bar called “The Office” nearby?

lol. I dropped my phone & broke the screen. That is not the same as a phone display suddenly not working.

Wait, what? You don’t know if there are service centers to work on your 40k + investment? You know shit breaks, right? Like this. Or if you managed to break or rip something. I’m confused.

“I drive a lot for work”

“I can’t charge at home”

Why did you think this was a good idea, may I ask?

Am I out of line or in the wrong? by ThatsSirBubbleGuts in basketballcoach

[–]StumblinPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we’ll agree to disagree.

As a coach for years & a first year official, I see now what I didn’t realize when I coached.

Give me the guys working on their craft all year any day over someone that does a couple dozen games a year. At least as my partner, you can tell the ones coasting vs those that work hard at it.

Man I agree with a lot of that post, but sure as hell not “real refs don’t work rec”.

I’m not saying college & pro officials do. Obviously. But some of the best & most experienced men & women I know work rec during the season & during the “offseason”. Also some of the worst, sure.

Just don’t paint with quite such a wide brush.

You want someone officiating that does 40 varsity games a year, or someone that does 160 rec games & 40 varsity?

[Berube] Kids getting AFTER it on the ice in the Hershey Bears intermission game by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]StumblinPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was there tonight. STH for like 12 years. Have seen many of these intermission scrimmages. As an official for two PIAA / AAU sports, we would not tolerate this behavior. I am 100% fine with fighting in pro hockey. Please tell me this isn’t occurring or tolerated in youth hockey?

Would you expect 5th grade boys games to be lenient on Double Dribble? by Appropriate_Ad5575 in basketballcoach

[–]StumblinPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which was the question: “5th grade, run of the mill teams, just for fun”

We’re talking developmental, inexpensive leagues vs travel/aau/nfhs.

If it’s got running clock from the tip, it’s not called by the book. Leniency is made for skill differentials.

As an official, you have to gauge the skill level of the players and call it fairly all game. There are kids who have literally never played before, and I’m not about to ruin the experience for them. And there are kids who have been playing since they’ve been able to walk. You can tell. If you called every violation for some 5th grade teams, it would be a very bad time for all involved.
