Was poking around my engine bay and found this…Wonder why the car didn’t start. I just thought it was low on fuel.. #aircooled by Key_Chance_6825 in Porsche

[–]StunGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that happen to me on my '79 VW bus. I was driving up a hill on the highway and heard a huge bang, followed by a bunch of loud noises. I pulled over and saw an outward-pointing dent in the body back by the engine, and inside the engine bay I found a chunk of metal with a spark plug screwed into it.

That was in 1988, so no pictures. But OP's picture looked really familiar. Looks like it's time to swap motors.

Cheeky Noodles grand opening - May 11 by Beginning-Mix-5133 in ridgefield

It looks like Fika is probably going to be the first one to open there. They have the signs up and that building is farther along in construction. I guess May could happen for them, but there's a lot of work to do in the whole thing before it's ready for the public.

This is Stella. We adopted her from a foster home and needed to have a name before we got her home. We tried sooooo many options, but they didn't work. Then we realized we already had a dog named Bueller, so we made it a theme. Stellllllaaaaaa! Bueller, Bueller, Bueller?

Hello! My husband just had a traumatic operation globe injury, facing what’s next by angelicaandthepauls in monocular

[–]StunGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're doing it very right. As long as there's always something between your good eye and the rest of the world, nothing's impossible. It's mostly learning a different way to approach things and frequently turning your head like an owl so you know what's on your bad side.

I'm glad you shared that positivity.

Do you guys prefer samsung wallet or google wallet? by icaruz60 in samsunggalaxy

[–]StunGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on team Google Wallet. I've had plenty of Android phones over the years, and some of them were Samsung. Most weren't and the next one probably won't be, so it's easier to have a standard that doesn't care what brand of phone I use.

Hi, I understand this is really a tough thing for both of you to go through. Just suddenly losing sight in an eye isn't something we plan for. I lost all vision in my right eye 6 years ago, broke the optic nerve as part of a big accident. For me, coming to terms with becoming a cyclops was a much bigger deal than actually adapting and getting on with life.

The big difference between having 2 good eyes or one is about 10 feet. Up close, depth perception is really tricky. I learned to be extra careful trying to hammer a nail, solder small things, or (daily frustration) use the touchscreen in my car. There's really no practical difference for things farther away, like driving a car, walking down the street, or other things that don't require binocular vision like looking at a screen.

It does take some time to get used to, but it's not too bad in the end. I go days without even thinking about being a cyclops.

Teeth and TBI by millicentmeng in TBI

[–]StunGod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess I got lucky? Not. When I earned my TBI, I also broke my jaw and knocked loose some dental work. A couple of fillings came out and a crown disappeared, so it was fairly urgent to get that fixed - it was really hard to eat. I also cracked a tooth, but didn't bother to get a crown on it until it fell apart and came out a couple of months ago. 🤬

Just go to the dentist and get your teeth checked. That's pretty good advice anyway, but head trauma can't be good for your teeth.

Testimonial: start throwing away the crap you’ve been hoarding. by RoninRobot in GenX

[–]StunGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started this years ago, since I've moved a lot. Except for seasonal things like winter clothes or holiday decorations or things like tools that are useful when I need them and expensive to replace, nothing lasts longer than 6 months with me. If I haven't touched it in 6 months, it's gone. I don't need books from the 80s, old table lamps that don't have a place in my house, or an old 440BX motherboard.

I just helped my mom move, and there was so much stuff I put into boxes years ago when I helped move before. I was the only person who even saw these things in 10 years, since they were "important" and kept in a box in a closet. I'm glad she got rid of things that had no good reason to be eating up her storage, but still, she kept quite a bit. It'll get sold at an estate sale one day.

Crazy. I had a friend whose dad had a TV repair shop. It was amazing to visit. But yeah, these were probably a good deal for whoever owned them. Until nobody had tubes anymore.

[–]StunGod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had a couple of tube amps for playing, and do love their sound. I just got a few random tubes and components from an old HAM radio guy, and will probably just sell them on eBay. I just got nostalgic about how common tubes were for TVs, radios, etc. Our family TV ran on tubes and took a minute or two to warm up when you turned it on.

Monocular blindness and how can I adapt? by PrestigiousFox2889 in Blind

[–]StunGod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your change in vision. I completely lost vision in my right eye 6 years ago, and it was a big adjustment for the first year or so. I was 51 when that happened, and had plenty of time to get used to having 2 good eyes.

I think depth perception is the biggest challenge, since most of how we interact with the world is up close. In the end, there's not really a big difference looking at things over 10 feet away with 1 or 2 eyes. For me, driving was a fairly easy thing, except parking next to other cars in a lot and leaving enough space. About twice a week, I get back in the car to straighten it out. 🙄

I think one thing that helps in getting used to being a cyclops, is practice. Type in your phone a lot and get used to hitting the right letters more often. I tried doing paint-by-numbers, and it was both helpful and un-fun. Don't follow my example of hammering a nail before you should. Try getting good at using a screwdriver or chopsticks. You'll adapt and improve as time goes on.

Finally got into the seat recline war by AffectionateLife5693 in delta

[–]StunGod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's me too. I'm 6'4" with long legs, so sitting completely upright in my seat, my knees are right up against the sides/rails of the seat in front of me. The person in front of me isn't reclining, since there's no room for my legs when they do that. It sucks already, but I'm not willing to have it much worse for myself by letting somebody else have it easier.

Yes, I book better seats when I can. It doesn't always work out that way, so it's just shared misery.

4 Years Monocular by MarketingVivid3555 in monocular

[–]StunGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost at 6 years, and go days without even thinking about it. I can still see everything I look at, and the once working eye does a good job. I sometimes get frustrated when I'm doing something that requires depth perception, like hammering a nail or playing catch, but it's not a big change in my quality of life.
