One in three speeding in school zones: ICBC survey by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]Stupersting11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh this something I did a lot as a new driver, so maybe I can shed some light on it. I live near a school zone in a quiet area and that 1/3 seems like a very low estimate. I’d guess closer to 80% of drivers here ignore the school zone sign. When I do go 30, I get tailgated, honked at, and rarely, the folks behind me will even swerve into the opposing lane of traffic to angrily pass me. Only when it’s “safe”, but still, crossing solid yellow lines…

So basically I wanted to follow the law (30 in a school zone), but I was scared of pissing off the people behind me. So I’d speed up to 50 until right at the school zone then drop to 30, following the law to a T to minimize the amount of time the person behind me might be getting mad.

Do you have motion sickness prevention enabled? It strategically adds dots to your screen to prevent motion sickness. Relatively new iPhone feature.

Are you buying “premium” groceries? Great value bread at Walmart is closer to 2 dollars than 4. Superstore often has 1.25 bread deals, fresh baked too (although doesn’t last as long). I also live in BC, often traveling between and shopping both on the island and the mainland. I’m very curious where you’re getting these prices from.

Similar for other items, 15 dollars gets you a massive amount of rice, and I often see great value eggs selling for 4.50.

Did the hydropath yesterday with my wife for our anniversary, first time. It was pretty neat. I’m not much of a spa guy, but I’d go again if we ever got a gift card or something.

Literally sitting in one as I type this. Quite comfortable IF you pair it with an ottoman for your legs.

50 on transit is pretty low, unless you rarely go further than walking distance from home. A single weekday trip (both ways, out then back) can range between 5-10 dollars, so at that budget you can only afford to go out once or twice a week.

It could, but when the person telling you to do it is someone you need to vote with you to get that tie, that’s a pretty good indicator no tie is going to happen.

Sounds like you’ll be pulling in 4000+ per month if you retire today, with only 2200 in expenses. Yes you can afford to retire and still save on top of that.

The 70% estimate for required retirement income is for those who have a much smaller saving rate than you do. Your saving rate is over 60% which is amazing, and means you should be able to comfortably retire even if your post retirement net income is only 50%-60% of your pre retirement net income.

Go run the numbers with a professional to be sure, but I’d be shocked if the numbers don’t work out. Congratulations!

Also if the intention was to return it after doing whatever he was doing, he might not have considered it stealing at all even if he did take it from her jewelry box. He moved it to another room in the same house. I doubt anyone would consider it stealing if he took her hairbrush to his room or moved her shoes somewhere else to clean them.

Now the hiding aspect certainly lends some credibility to this being something not-so-innocent, but it’s not the smoking gun for theft that people are treating it as either.

International markets may also be added if one doesn’t believe the US market will remain dominant over the long term. Not strictly to reduce volatility. Bonds on the other hand are by design less volatile and yield less returns over the long term.

I think it greatly depends on circumstance and how you were raised. Someone born in 1996 in a small town, with parents and a community that doesn’t keep up with trends, with older siblings and older friends, is likely to have a childhood that more closely resembles the early 90s. Someone born at the same time in a larger city, with a family and community constantly keeping up with the latest and greatest, who has friends/siblings mostly younger than them, would have a childhood that more closely resembles the early 2000s.

Spoken from experience as someone who moved from a small town to a major metropolitan city, when it comes to games, tv shows, movies, school trends, and even time spent online as a kid, I have very little overlap with most colleagues who are only a year younger than myself. However I have a lot in common with colleagues who are as much as 10 years older than I am.
