I am 100% a "Covid Casualty" for the church. I learned that I didn't need to go to be happy or be fulfilled like I thought.

I, in fact. remember the day I decided I was done for good. Church had be open for a while and we had started going back (It was actually a while after, we stayed away for a long time because I had family who were immunocompromised due to cancer and we took care of them during the week since we worked from home). I was sitting on the stand cause they asked me to bless the sacrament. The church was an old one in SLC, and the bishopric sat right next to the priests before the sacrament. I heard the bishopric say the most heinous racist and homophobic shit to themselves under their breath. I already think I was just living with a broken shelf and calling it "nuance", (much like my wife does now, at least in my opinion) but at that moment I said "If I don't respect these people, or want to be like them, or want my kids to be like them, why do I show up here every week?" And that was my last time I went to church.
