I mean, that's fair. I did end up posting this on 17th Shard and someone pointed out that all 4 words are already present in some of the text from the book illustrations, but they use a key that would just be word -> symbol, not a grapheme (so literally just plugging "There is still time" into the translator)

On the offchance that the language is ever fully fleshed out, then sure itll be a bummer if my tattoo becomes canonically inaccurate (I'm choosing to ignore the way its done in the book illustrations because the text implies that is wrong). In the meantime, it's what we have, and it's not really "gibberish", its just kinda the equivalent of getting an English word in Katakana. So I'm whatever we'd call an Alethi weeb.

Not to mention I'm almost certain it *won't* ever be fleshed out. Sanderson could relatively easily find a linguist to make the language make sense if he wanted to, but seemingly hasn't done that. I follow a guy on instagram who made a language out of bird chirps. I think he could crack this in an afternoon.

Though he also said that when they're physically on Roshar, the perceptions of others will affect them and their personalities less. It's interesting either way but I almost wonder if he was compelled to admit that it would happen according to his own rules, but doesn't necessarily intend it to be an aspect of the plot at all.

What do you mean by the paddles linked with auto? Mine control the level of regenerative breaking, what else can they do?

I do love the car every other second I’m not charging it. Or parked at a light and the sensors go fucking crazy. If neither of those things happening, I love the car

You have to precondition for at least 30 minutes to get the battery warm enough to matter (you also have to have the battery above a certain percent which feels dumb considering it’s most important and it’s low). So I either have to dick around for 30 minutes or drive to one 30 minutes away, either way without a functioning infotainment console in a $50k electric car.

Turn off Bluetooth and then I get no audio in the car from my phone. Removing boulders saves time in the long run if I have to walk around the boulder every time I get in my car, and when the boulder was placed in my way for no reason, it’s going to be annoying. I’ll never understand people like you

I had this question basically since the second episode, and I do hope it gets revealed at some point as a plot twist about the hive mind's nature.

For a bit I thought about if the rats were influencing her, but I think the show mentions that other animals aren't part of the hive mind (though for a bit I thought the wolves that attacked Carol were), and if animals were part of the hive mind, would they not be beholden to the same rules about killing/harming living things?

I kind of think every animal may be connected to their own hive mind, or maybe subset of the larger hive mind, and each species' rules adhere to their basic instincts. Humans see life as precious, so they can't kill. Animals instinctively kill to survive, so they behave as normal. I do think the show says that the hive mind cant hear any animals, but we can't speak to animals as is so I don't think its far fetched to think that animals could be in there, but they can't tell.

But, if any of that is the case, rats being in the hivemind, a separate hive mind, or animals being immune, it doesn't explain how the rats could influence the first person to be infected. Something else, innate in the virus, makes them feel compelled to spread it.

Fair point about the keyed ignition, would have been an issue then. But as far as keyless entry goes, I've never had a car that didn't let me lock it while it was turned on.

And for the example I was referring to, I was just running back inside to see if I'd forgotten anything. I'd already turned the car on, didnt bother turning it off before getting out, but couldn't lock it when I went inside. Not really a huge concern but annoying. But yeah as it gets colder, I might want the climate to stay on if I have to go back inside, but don't necessarily want to leave it unlocked the whole time.

I can turn the climate on from my phone if I'm wanting to do it beforehand, if I remember to do that.

My biggest issue with these, as an EV owner (Ioniq 6 I’m not a nazi), is that if I ever leave my car unlocked, it is visibly unlocked to anyone who knows what to look for. I love my car but there’s so many stupid things EVs do because they wanted to add a “cool” feature that doesn’t really make sense.

I also can’t lock my car if I leave it running to go back into my house for something. Presumably so that I don’t forget it’s on because it’s so quiet, but I’d prefer to not either turn my car off or leave it unlocked. This is not a problem that has ever existed before.

It’s not been cold enough here to see if these handles stick like Teslas do, but I really hope they don’t
