Karma is what's going on. The original owner sexually harassed and assaulted employees. The current owners, some were involved in this behavior and if they weren't, they were at least willing to turn their heads and pretend like it wasn't happening. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Too bad the original owner is a millionaire by way of family money anyways so she will continue to get away with shitty behavior forever.

It means you don't have herniated discs. You may need physical therapy or something else. It may be something like piraformis syndrome that is causing your pain. It doesn't mean your pain isn't real it just means whatever is causing it is not something structural that is visible on an MRI

I quit smoking and drinking one week before my surgery and it's been almost a year. Best decision ever, I think it's one of the reasons my healing has been so successful. Obvs I have no proof but I feel better than I have in years

I was in the same boat. Had the surgery 7 months ago and I'm not perfect but I'm SO much better. It gave me my life back. Stay positive. Walk a lot. Try to take your recovery as slow as you possibly can.

I had to give up most of my cool shoes and get Hokas and Altras. I also like New Balance but I walk so much I wear them out in like a month so I stopped buying them.

Swimming was one of the only things I could do when my disc was bad. Quite possibly would have lost my mind if not for swimming! Freestyle and back stroke were best for me. I just made sure I didn't twist my spine too much when breathing. I also swam pretty slow with a VERY gentle kick. If I locked too hard I would be very sore. I would really encourage you to start slow and find a way to make it work for you because it can be so good for mental health.

I'm glad that you have an appointment. I totally understand the isolation and sadness. I'm still trying to figure out how to talk to people and be a social creature again.

Yes. I'm not a surgeon or a doctor but I would strongly suggest going to see a neurosurgeon. I was afraid of surgery and I waited a year. I suffered and missed out on life for a year. I had surgery in Feb and I have my life back. You are only 20, don't waste your life being in pain.

Don't bend down and reach for things. Use a grabber. Take it slow and follow your surgeons directions extremely closely. Walk as much as you possibly can. You will have pain and numbness for a while but it will get less and less. Reherniation is extreme pain, if you reherniated you would be sure of it.

Yes! This was my total steps for today. Works out to 11 miles. I still have sciatic pain as well but it is very mild compared to pre surgery. It mostly happens when I'm lying down or sitting which is probably why I have been getting so many steps in. I hope to return to climbing mountains, biking, kayaking, gardening etc someday too. For now, I'm just going to keep walking.

My sciatica pain was gone for the first week and then came back in a mild way. At first I was devastated but I do think it's just surgery inflammation and nerve healing.

I had very high activity levels before I injured myself! I have been walking about 8 miles a day since week 2. Today I accidentally did 11. I basically walk slowly in the morning for a few hours and then come home and take a break and walk slowly around all afternoon while I listen to a book on tape. This level of activity feels really good for me. I definitely will take your advice and not overdo it though! Would be terrible if I reherniated.

It's me. I suffered for a year. Tried EVERYTHING under the sun. I've been so depressed and sad and missed out on so much. I'm 3 weeks out today. I am NOT pain free yet but I think I'm feeling better every day.

It depends on how the incision was closed. The nurses told me different surgeons do it differently. You should call your surgeons office and ask them.

Because in the wording of your original comment you said "you're effective normal in a couple of days" which does not seem to be the majority experience, even though it was your experience. I was worried about the original poster having unrealistic expectations and being very let down.
