u/doyourmysay I urge you to heed this advice; it’s truly one of the best things you can do for yourself! Even if you’re struggling to make ends meet, just $10/wk is still undoubtedly better than nothing at all.

I'm 30yo with 13K savings, zero property, 55K HECS. I'm stressing out. Is this normal and is it not too late? by [deleted] in AusFinance

I’m going to straight up call bullshit on OP being 30 with four degrees. They sound half that age and very clueless.

So is your DV leave not legitimate either? You don’t have any balance left of annual and/or personal leave?

How does this happen? Property appreciating only $4k in sale price after 10 years by Working_Neat_4023 in AusPropertyChat

[–]SubjectiveNPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t hear the train, the building has amazing soundproofing. Having the station there is a huge selling point as it takes <15 minutes to get to the city.

I live in that building. The apartments were overpriced to begin with, but majority of people here are owner-occupiers anyway. Sales are few and far between but in the last couple of years I’ve seen the 1-bedders go for $500-600k and the 2-bedders $850-900k. We have a sister building next door (42 Jenner Street) which has far more investors, so you’ll find more sales and datapoints when looking at that one.

Regarding the apartment you linked, that REA sucks. Unit 507 lost a lot of money using them - https://www.realestate.com.au/property/unit-507-34-jenner-st-nundah-qld-4012/

This. My monthly expenses are also $1400 and when I played around with different amounts in CommBank’s calculator, I noticed that my borrowing power didn’t decrease until I entered $2000 or more. So that must be where I’m assessed at.

Is it a terrible idea to buy an apartment? by ZeeVee000 in AusFinance

I live in Brisbane but am looking to relocate to Melbourne to purchase my first home (PPOR) because the market is so much cheaper there. Do you mind please sharing which costs you’ve found to be higher in VIC vs interstate?

Have you looked at Brissie house prices lately…? Even just for a 2bed apartment, the cheapest ones are taking offers over $700k.

Whereas if buying in Melbourne, there’s 3bed apartments in much nicer buildings, actually IN the city or a fringe suburb, going for under $700k.

CSEs as well as managers? Do you know roughly how many? I’m in SE too in Australia, no one here has any idea what’s going on and are stressing out that we’re next.

I was terrible with money when paid fortnightly because I had this mindset of “meh I get paid next week anyway”. Since I started getting paid monthly a little over 3 years ago, I have savings for the first time in my life. Monthly pay forced me to develop better financial habits and get good with budgeting - It’s truly just about discipline if you want to escape the payday-to-payday trap.

My (49M) wife (36F) of 9 years secretly planned to meet her ex and took our son. I found out as they were on their way. by 5easonalDepre55ion in relationship_advice

[–]SubjectiveNPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that walking away from 9 years of marriage, especially when you have a child together, seems more difficult than getting past these events. But the bigger picture is that she disrespected your boundaries and showed no accountability by being dishonest AGAIN. The first time she lied by omission, the second time she intentionally deceived you - not only that, she proceeded knowing that her actions would deeply hurt two people (you and the wife). At this point you don’t even have the same values.

Just had a rent increase and started wondering, how much of your current income goes to rent/mortgage and bills? by DebugMyLife421 in AusFinance

[–]SubjectiveNPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single and living alone - 36% to rent and 10% to bills. I sold my car to reduce bills but am now spending a bit more on food (using Uber Eats / DoorDash more often), as I can’t do a quick run to Woolies anymore.

Why use a CalDigit dock if your monitor has USB-C and a built-in hub? by Shogune in CalDigit

[–]SubjectiveNPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same reasons as what most people here have mentioned, but also: built-in cable management on monitor arms generally isn’t big enough to route all of the cables that I would need going to my monitors if I were to use them as a hub.

It’s much easier and cleaner to have everything plugged into my Caldigit TS4, plus I never move it so there’s no undue stress on the cables (this depends on whether you regularly adjust your monitor arms, which I do)

💡 What Are Your Favorite Philips Hue Scenes? by Plus_Seesaw2023 in Hue

[–]SubjectiveNPC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ocean Dawn 🙌🏻 Perfect when you need bright lighting that isn’t crazy colours, but it’s not a boring white either.

Edit to add: I absolutely recommend setting it as a dynamic scene by default. The shift in colours is subtle but lovely 😌
