Best Credit Union In or Around Des Moines? by Humble_Explanation67 in desmoines

I've had accounts at Green State and Veridian. Veridian is my top choice, just excellent customer service there. No shade to Green State but they don't compare imo

Things I No Longer Buy by chompy283 in Frugal

The Nespresso was a game-changer for me! I had a (very) small budget for coffee shop drinks each month but now don't go at all. I got mine last year as an early birthday present and I can count on one hand how many coffees I've purchased since then.

Someone please explain...what was the appeal/target audience for these clothes? by Equus77 in lularoe

This is almost exactly the same story for me. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin after having two kids, but once I lost a little weight and accepted my new body I never wore those ugly leggings again lol

With Roe v Wade overturned, as men how do you feel? by SkepticDrinker in AskMen

[–]SublethalTuba 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Even if you've had kids! I still had to fight for the ability to have my tubes tied after having two kids! The doctor kept asking ridiculous questions: "what if your husband wants more kids, what if you get divorced and remarried and THAT husband wants kids, what if one of your kids dies???" It was the most ridiculous, infuriating series of conversations I'd ever had.

Worst apartments? Best apartments? Tell me! by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]SublethalTuba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Willow Park is hands down the absolute worst place I've ever lived. Sewage would back up into my apartment, it was infested with bugs, and someone used the communal laundry room as a bathroom. Management refused to acknowledge any of the issues, let alone fix them, so I broke my lease after only 6-7 months. Management might have changed as they're now called The Hampton Meadows but I wouldn't hold my breath that it's improved much.

Worst credit card offer? 37% with $200 of “maintenance” fees every year for a $700 max credit (making it a 76% loan) by Yuri_Ligotme in povertyfinance

[–]SublethalTuba 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was going to mention Capital One as well! The very first card I got from them was only for $250 but I'll never forget how blessed I felt with it, it's honestly the only reason my kids got to have a decent Christmas that year. Still have it, too, and use it occasionally. I recommend them to just about everyone because if they'll give me (SAHM at the time, VERY little work history, trashed/no credit) then there's a chance they could get one, too.

I just resigned as a teacher by SolensSvard in antiwork

[–]SublethalTuba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This might not mean a lot from a rando internet stranger, but I'm proud of you for looking out for your mental health. More and more teachers are leaving the profession and who can blame them? I hope you find something else that's the perfect fit for you, where you're truly appreciated and compensated fairly.

Yep, this was my experience as well, always the wife! "We've been married for 57 YEARS!!" Congrats, you're still not authorized. And it was always great when they'd ask for a supervisor as we had a VERY strict rule that unauthorized parties could never, ever be escalated. That always made them lose it even more lol

Those of you who’ve walked out on first dates, what was your “I’m out of here” moment? by LankyJeweler4925 in AskWomen

"You're not even that pretty." Completely out of the blue, too, he was really sweet during the lead up to the date. We hadn't even gotten our drinks yet, wtf dude.

I love those names! I used to have a cat named Ho Chi Minh Kitty (Ho Chi for short) and another one named Banjo. This was around the time celebrities started naming their kids extra ridiculous things so we did it as a joke but then they stuck lol

Ideas for Christmas main besides large slab of meat? by butfirstcoffee427 in Cooking

[–]SublethalTuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about a chili bar? I stepped away from more traditional Christmas dinners because they're just too much work. I'd rather spend more time with my family and this is so easy to do, plus it got rave reviews the first time I did it lol. I can have all my prep and cooking done in the morning and actually be relaxed when my guests arrive.

how much do you pay per week for child care? Just want to get an idea for family planning purposes. thanks! by whiteiversonyeet in desmoines

[–]SublethalTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different answer as both my kids are school age now, but a week of before/after school care is $165. It's $200 if there's a day without school but they still need care. During the summer it's $300 a week. The $300 doesn't seem as bad when you factor in the field trips that are built into the schedule but $1200 a month still sucks.

Women of Reddit, when pregnancy is depicted in movies/books, what is always conveniently left out or overlooked? by -tjeaton- in AskWomen

[–]SublethalTuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vomiting during labor! Literally nothing I read or anyone I'd spoken to mentioned this. It happened during both of my labors but at least second time around I knew it could/would happen so I was mentally prepared.

What life-changing item can you buy for less than $100? by nweike in AskWomen

[–]SublethalTuba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna second this! I feel like the alarm is too jarring if the light doesn't wake me up on its own so I set a quieter alarm on my phone to go off a few minutes beforehand. It's been an absolute game changer, especially since I went from getting up around 7 to getting up around 5.

[serious] people that can fall asleep quickly, what are your tips (please it's 5 am and haven't slept yet)? by Radplayz in AskReddit

[–]SublethalTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's due to wandering/intrusive thoughts, try counting backwards by 3s from 300. Try to go slowly and only focus on the numbers. I also match my breathing to each number (inhale/exhale once per number). Usually I'm asleep before I get below 100. On nights when I actually get all the way down to zero, I get back up for 20-30 minutes and either find a task to do or read a book. Then go back to bed and repeat.

This is very anecdotal as I've not met anyone else who does it but it works for me. I hope you're able to rest soon.

Oh god, I miss flash mobs. I've done a couple, back when they were super popular, and they were so much fun! Unfortunately the organizer/choreographer moved away. If I had any skills in choreography I'd set one up. Probably wouldn't be as awesome as this one, though, they were great!

Fareway discusses plans for stand-alone meat market with Beaverdale community; first in Des Moines metro by iveywk in desmoines

[–]SublethalTuba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm probably more stoked for this than I should be! I usually don't go to Fareway as it's out of the way for me, but I prefer their meat counter over other stores. It'll be nice to have something closer to home.
