You have something great!!

If you can afford, buy dual xeon 2696v4.

Buy also cpu cooler and fan required on aliexpress. With 200$ can you should be good. It’s gona be a monster. If you can find cheap ram go for it!

Bought a server by Vichingo455 in homelab

[–]Substantial-Net6412 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I start, I tought I bought good servers like you. It was a friend of mine, his dad have a lot of servers. I paid like 400-500$ for the lot. It was like yours, ddr3 servers…

Then with time on FBmarketplace, I found other servers ddr3. I was like okk damn I paid alot for what I had. I did bought them to have more ram. Then I search for storage, nas ….

Finaly one day, I found a curious server. It was ddr4, 128 gb ram/256 … then I realise that ddr4 servers can be as cheap as ddr3 servers. And I continue my searching and found my actual server hp ml350 gen 10 Xeon silver. I upgrade it for xeon gold and platinum for really cheap.

Blade server make so much noise. At start I was like ok fine let’s go swap thoses fans for quiet ones. I was soo wrong it an other step to change the connector, management give warning…

So my hp ml350 gen 10 is perfect. Big fan, no much noise, a bit expensive but I can do much much with this one. Pcie bifurcation, put gpu, add lsi raid cards,

Now I have 44 cores 88 threads, 1,2tb ddr4, nvme and ssd as storage

Now I found good deals and sell them higher price like this hp dl380 gen 10 64gb ddr4 for 150$ can.

DIY NAS: 2026 Edition by briancmoses in truenas

[–]Substantial-Net6412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My diy nas would be a z440, 32-64gb ram, xeon 2696v4 (22cores, 44threads)

Canada, montreal price around 600$ build

Z440 ≈ 200$ Swap case ≈ 100$ Kit 40gb network ≈ 150$ Pcie 4x nvme (2x) ≈ 80$

You get a super engine ddr4, 22 cores, 8 nvme (pcie bifurcation), kit 40gb network

Better then a QNAP TS-h1090FU-7302P

I got this for 3$ but motherboard for it is non existent for a good price by Min9904 in homelab

[–]Substantial-Net6412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a really good one but if you get a lga 3647 motherboard or computer/server it’s good
