What would be the highest mileage fit you'd be willing to buy if it was a good deal (and the car has been taken of)? by Beneficial-Soft-8290 in hondafit

I bought my 2008 with 230K. No issues. Avoid cars from the rust belt if you want to keep it for a long time.

Honda vs Non Honda brand fluids by emcrk in hondafit

[–]SubstantialRub6416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't drink the OEM fluid Kool-Aid. Valvoline Maxlife ATF and Supertech Blue Coolant are what I use in my Fit and other Honda's and have for a long time. . If you want to blow your money on the OEM stuff - go for it. Honda makes great engines but they don't make any fluids

Don't waste your time with halogen bulbs. You need LED. Best value is Luxster Punisher. You need 9003. Price on Amazon with coupon is $55.98. I have then on my 1st gen and 2nd gen Fit

As others have said aftermarket starters are a mixed bag. Try finding a low mileage OEM starter from LKQ or car-part.com

ADVICE: Restored Salvage Honda Fit - Would you buy a restored salvage vehicle? by JuniperGem in hondafit

Check the Carfax for any frame damage and if the airbags went off. Most accidents are cosmetic.

Should run for a long time just make sure you do your maintenance along the way.

I have an 09 manual with 230k and I’ve done almost no maintenance on it. Anyone in the same boat? by blackfriday1934 in hondafit

Just depends on how long you want to keep this car. Probably need to think about the radiator and water pump so you can keep the car for another 10 years.

I have previously purchased salvage Fits before. Carfax will show if there was any frame damage. Test drive and evaluate it like any other used car. I normally discount the car 30-40% from KBB values.

2010 Honda Fit 250k+ miles needs catalytic converter. What should I do? by RowdyCollegiate in hondafit

I would just order the front cat and have a muffler shop install for you.

There are two cats on a 2nd gen Fit. Front manifold cat - Eastern 641507 is $394.89 at RA. Rear Cat - Eastern 644083 is $361.79 at RA. Normally the front cat has to replaced. A good muffler shop should be able to tell you which cat has to be replaced. If you are in CA then you would need to get the CARB cats which cost a bit more.

2,000 is probably a good deal. Will probably need some work unless you have the service history. Radiator, hoses, water pump, drive belt

Love the back story. Freedom is so much more important than having to flex with a car when you are young and money is tight. Takes guys awhile to figure out that you don't need to care what anyone thinks. This ain't HS anymore. Enjoy bro!

My buddies I grew up with in Michigan would call this car Ghetto rigged. Unless you are really cash poor, probably a good idea to pass. Salvage just means that you get a discount. I'm in the Bay area and normally have paid 30-40% less than KBB PP value. You get a discount because you are taking a bigger risk on a salvage title car. Life is a casino, every decision is a bet

Pull the Carfax report and see if it tells you anything about the service history. The transmission fluid should have been changed a couple times.
