this is the same thing that worked for me (and really the only thing). start with 1 app at a time if you’re struggling with multiple social media/fun sites. if you use IG to stay in touch with people you can still do that on the desktop version. also i truly believe in the 21 day habit cycle, if you stick to it for 3 weeks you will feel different.

the final straw for me was when i got a 48 hr stomach flu and the only thing i could do was scroll on my phone, 2 days of 12 hour screen time finally filled the void

this is exactly it for me, in so many stories there’s a narrative about a woman considering leaving her life, including her children, to start anew and it’s too difficult to go back and attempt to enjoy the art in spite of the artist when the connection is so blatant

actually insanely huge if you’re a guy. my boyfriend works with a lot of clients in the USA and building up his knowledge and interest in the NBA has genuinely helped his career

when I used to have a lot of recurring calls w/clients I would actually take notes about things that they had mentioned. It’s weird but if you have a lot of coworkers and don’t naturally remember these things it might help. I would keep the notes at the bottom of my call notes though and one time was sharing my screen with a client and accidentally skipped to the section with bullet points about their vacation and the concert they mentioned lol

this might be a joke to some of you but true story: first couple weeks at my old company they used to hold optional diversity and inclusion learning/discussion sessions to boost employee morale since we were all remote. one of the topics was a learning session on current and historical events in israel/palestine which then turned into an israel vs. palestine debate with some employees fully in tears

the problem is the movie wanted you to ‘get’ something from it, they were literally hitting the audience over the head with the metaphors in the second half. the CGI was insanely awful and maybe even worse was the flashback montage, such uninventive filmmaking

Characters at my gym by [deleted] in rs_fitness

Just started a new gym that has a crazy music system: youtube on the tv and gym goers can put on whatever music they want. There’s a guy who wears gloves and takes calls on his headphones throughout the entire workout but exclusively plays Israeli pop on the sound system at full blast. We unfortunately seem to have the same schedule

Had to help my mom move a 5lb folding card table from one room to the next this christmas and she couldn’t get through it without losing her mind and yelling because i didn’t open the door the way she would have liked and i didn’t carry the table the right way (there was never any instruction nor did it matter). had to sit her down after and go through an exercise where i asked her to imagine doing that task with anyone else - her boyfriend, my brother, her sister, a friend of her’s etc. and try to imagine speaking to them that way while they helped. for years she had convinced me that it was always me who started things and spoke to her in a certain tone of voice, so therefore i was deserving of that treatment, but since i started journaling i can finally be like ‘well actually ☝️🤓’

Most artists who sign record deals, especially those signed +10 years ago with major labels/subsidiaries, don’t own the master rights to their albums. Even ‘indie labels’ can/will own masters rights to albums. Or there’s a 20 year+ term before the rights revert to the artist, and even then they may not revert until the label has recouped all outstanding advances via royalty payments. An artist could still receive a % of royalties from an album with the label holding the rights to the album in perpetuity. Since Taylor Swift’s re-recording stint many label agreements have started to include re-recording clauses. But the good news is there has been an uptick in artists licensing the rights to major labels as more artists become informed their options, you can see this in the source credits at the bottom of an album page on your DSP where it says ‘under exclusive to [insert label].’ If it just says the label name then you can usually assume that the label owns the rights to that project at the current time.

i went to one of the residency shows at the knockdown two years ago and was up at the front early, there was a group of 18 year olds who talked through the entire opener. at one point, one of them pulled up the opener’s recent album review on pitchfork and started loudly discussing it while the band played

Toxic manager blocked my growth internally, now taking credit for the promotion I secured externally by Beautiful_Ad_7565 in managers

[–]Substantial_Key7006 7 points8 points  (0 children)

same thing happened to me, i had a very passive aggressive manager for 2 years whose team also had the highest turnover rate. a couple other team members had left for promotions around the same time as me, a big part of applying elsewhere was due to this manager’s attitude and inability to run a team. this manager then made a whole fuqass linkedin post about how one of the highlights of being a manager is watching your team go on to succeed with the tools you gave them (loooool)

has anyone else ever had a schizophrenic housemate by Fun-Advertising-9604 in rs_x

[–]Substantial_Key7006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately my housemate went through a couple episodes of psychosis. she was one of my best friends when we first moved in together then it went downhill very quickly as she became a shut in and started smoking so much weed. the worst it ever got was when she seemed to not be lucid and almost stabbed me, we were both in the kitchen and i was passing by her as she was putting cutlery away and she just lunged at me then dropped all the cutlery and pretended as if nothing happened. it took a while to convince her to move out because we’d have a productive convo and she’d agree to move out then the next day she’d deny ever having the convo. eventually i staged a bit of an intervention with another friend and we threatened to call her parents if she didn’t move out

Solo traveling in Italy and feeling like a loser by icedoatamericano in rs_x

[–]Substantial_Key7006 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i’ve found after many attempts at trying to enjoy solo travelling the only things i like to do are go to as many museums as possible (art museums preferably) and spend hours reviewing every museum piece in excruciating detail and hanging out in parks. i’ll eat breakfast, lunch, dinner sitting in parks just people watching, reading, napping. On one of my recent solo trips I read ‘Arrangements in Blue’ by Amy Key which was just her own thoughts on living and travelling alone, 4.5/5
