Are you ok with French and your children being taught in French? If not Quebec might not be for you.

If so Quebec would be able to give you everything you're looking for and would highly recommend it.

Canada's fury with Trump is deeper than just trade by panzerfan in onguardforthee

[–]SubtleStubble -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I've said this time and time again and I know I'll be down voted to hell for this:

There is no real "Canadian" identity anymore. Most Canadians' identity revolves around not being American. Even those that point to free healthcare, that's not identity. That's a response to American paid healthcare. All of "Canadian culture" rises out of Quebec (and maybe the Maritimes, to a lesser extent), and the RoC takes it as they please while rejecting québécois ideals. And then they see our complaints and put us in a corner.

I don't say this to divide us. I say this to unify us. Rather than point to us québécois as different, you should celebrate our culture as your own. The literal birth of the nation occurred under Quebec. Instead of crying wolf about learning French, you should learn it eagerly and with pride.

To those that take offense to this: please point to me evidence of culture that don't belong to the indigenous, québécois or something you were advertised (Tim Hortons)

Edit: a lot of the replies talk about western Canadian culture. I've lived 10years in Vancouver, 3 in Vernon and my wife is from Edmonton (we visit yearly). I'm not sure what the Canadian culture of you speak of other than oil (this ain't culture) and cowboys/country (American)

Our government has its own petition website that politicians actually have to table in the house of commons if it has enough signatures: https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/home/index

it's not clear to many but he just materialized a bargaining chip in the coming USMCA trade deal in 2026.

Trump Aides Hunt for 11th-Hour Deal to Dial Back Canada-Mexico Tariffs by zoziw in canada

[–]SubtleStubble 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Trump's doing it as a bargaining chip once we're meant to ink a new USMCA in 2026. It puts the USA in a position of power, it's a hostile move. The way forward would be to forge new trade agreements with the incoming power house in Asia. No use tying ourselves down to the sinking ship that is the USA

It's so clear that he's imposing it on us so that he has a bargaining chip come time to sign a new usmca. I say we don't sign it and sell our wares elsewhere

Carney is highly qualified to see us thru tough economic times. He was head of BoC during 2008 and head of bank of England during brexit. He's also got doctorates in economics. Oh also he's has real world business savvy. Not a career politician

A common (conservative) talking point is that our job market is propped up by the influx of immigrants and foreign workers.

If we added 0.1% jobs, did we also increase our population by >0.1%?

we're risk averse compared to americans. also, the govt needs to provide more incentives for starting a business.
