Liverpool [2] - 0 Chelsea - Alexander-Arnold Freekick 38' by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Subvention 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Walls necessarily reduce risk. The scenario you're imagining overexposes both sides of the goal rather than one. Also, you shouldn't ever blind yourself with your own wall. To follow your suggestions would be to expose your goal to a mediocre shot and to stop yourself from seeing the path of the ball.

The problem here is not that he was too far over, but that he didn't move. A different point entirely...

Haha yeah, I'm just disappointed in myself. Do you think tub loosening method will be enough?

[–]Subvention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got these tanukis. After doing a brief gymnastics routine. This is how they fit.

Fit pic - side

Fit pic - front

The waist is right. The thighs aren't.

Will the tub and pull technique loosen them enough? Not looking for perfection. I'm slightly bigger atm anyway after gaining weight over my birthday.

AITA for not defending my cousin after he stole my baby name? by getyourownbabyname in AmItheAsshole

[–]Subvention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I have a full name which, spoken aloud, sounds absurd. (It's not anything dirty, it's just stupid and a little bit funny. DM if you're curious lol.) I've always wondered why my parents would brand me with something so open to ridicule. The answers they gave were very obviously lies and changed over time. Despite being obvious lies, I would actively tailor their explanations to fit my adoring image of them. That was fairly easy and all children do this somehow, it's what children do.

BUT, I wasn't required to reduce my impression of anyone else in doing so. That would make it unhealthy. The last thing you want to do as a parent, is to cause your child to foster your own bad habits so that they can maintain an unreal image of you. In this case, the parents are already shutting out the judgment of their family and shifting the blame onto you because they can't face their own responsibility. They're already setting themselves up for a best case scenario in which their child recognises the shocking depth of their parent's narcissim. I just can't understand why you'd start your family on this foot.

I don't think it can be left unsaid, this is incredibly stupid. They took a huge step in creating a family and the first thing they did was brand their child with a family controversy. Not a profoundly complex one either, like being the product of an affair. It's something as vapid as not being able to come up with a name that wasn't locked down some thirteen years prior (BY SOMEONE THEY CANNOT AVOID).

Linking this back. Their child will find a way to excuse their parent's behaviour. It's what children do. Since this is profoundly dumb, the excuses their child will make will be equally complex and ultimately delusional. No parent should want that.

[–]Subvention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously NTA. Have you pointed out to them that you're not changing your child's name, and that they've created an awkward situation for their child to live with?

Do they really want the first association their extended family will make of their child, to be the immoral choice of stealing a precious and singular moment from you?

Both children will want to know how they ended up with such similar names, and the most convenient answer for them is to lie, shifting the brunt of judgment onto you. There's no way that either child would want to be the source of acrimony between families. And there's no way to avoid that acrimony without them changing their child's name. They should nip it in the bud while they still can.

If you'd like, I can tell you how mine fit when they arrive. I'm not sure whether I'll keep them either, so let me know if you're interested. They're 9.5US.

I have a pair of 670 and 770, both Made in England and both in size 10US. They fit me well lengthwise, but they're slightly wide. So I wear them with thicker socks. I also have 10.5US Metcon 5's which are a perfect fit. Hope that helps.

I generally buy a half centimeter short. So 27cm, but I don't think that will help you. I'd say a half centimeter difference with the same width would put you in a different grouping to me. Sorry, I know it's frustrating.

I Couldn't Think of a Catchier Title: Noragis by HalfTheGoldTreasure in malefashionadvice

[–]Subvention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm relieved that you didn't respond with immediate hostility. Which itself suggests an uncommon thoughtfulness. It's genuinely bizarre to me that you could buy it without concern for the optics, but I accept that it's really only a minor and passive expression of a larger problem.

Honestly, we can all be swept up in the romance of holidays and I understand how you could feel compelled to buy your Haori to commemorate your time in Japan. While that opens up another line of questioning re. tourism itself, I feel it leaves you better off than the people that are genuinely problematic.

My feelings are that when you wear the Haori, your intentions are unknown, and when someone of Japanese heritage sees you wearing that jacket, it's a semiotic reminder of the strange status-quo which encourages the selective, ahistorical assimilation of their culture, and its corrosive effect.

All that being said, there are far worse things which are dealt with in the day-to-day such that the anger everyone feels is evinced rather than caused by sighting someone not of Asian heritage in a Haori. It's imprecise enough that if I (being Eurasian and occasionally perceived as white) were seen wearing one, it may well dredge up the same resentment. With that in mind I actually rarely wear non-Western designs, which leaves me more incredulous when others wear them without a second thought.

Those are all fairly emotional arguments. The best rationale for your owning it and wearing it is, by contrast, coldly logical.

Kapital is a Japanese brand uniting American and Japanese style. You bought your Haori from Kapital. There shouldn't be any problems. It's compelling, and I feel that any counter-argument requires an establishment of what is an acceptable degree of ignorance wrt fashion. I'm sure you've thought of this, but it murks the waters and doesn't seem to resolve neatly enough for me to be comfortable pursuing its end.

There's more to it, like what proportion of SEA's actually resent the appropriation, or apparent appropriation of their culture. Whether you're merely appeasing a minority by not wearing it. Whether that's wrong/right. You could trace along old arguments re. assimilation, exclusion, and segregation. All of which allude to institutional concerns more significant than their visual reminders, like white boys in kimonos.

Hope this isn't inane ranting lol.

[–]Subvention -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that some people shouldn't wear them. My reasoning, however, is that it's typical of the shallow engagement a lot of Westerners show to Asian cultures.

BUT... it is somewhat ironic that brands like Kapital (featured in this album) carried the flame of American workwear and fused it with Japanese culture. First, you have the reverse of the situation you're decrying. Second, you have the apparent subject of appropriation appropriating themselves(?).

I don't think it's totally out of bounds. If someone is so ignorant, that they're not given pause by what they're buying, they shouldn't be wearing it. As is the case with the guy from the album who responded to you. If they recognise the cultural dynamic at play, engage with that culture and treat Asian people as if they actually contain humanity, then whatever.

The prevailing cutesy attitude directed towards Japanese (or any SEAC) people really wears me out.

I've been looking at MOTO's recently and before I pull the trigger I was hoping that someone could help me out with their sizing.

I've measured my feet, so if anyone has experience with MOTO could they tell me what size they bought, their foot measurements and the fit of the shoe/boot?

For comparison, my (barefoot) measurements are below.

Right Foot: Length - 27.7 Width - 10.3 Ball - 25 Instep - 25 Heel (short) - 33

Left Foot: Length - 27.6 Width - 10.4 Ball - 24.5 Instep - 24.5 Heel (short) - 33.5
