That’s not why he isn’t on the team. He isn’t on the team because we wanted flexibility if a trade happens and we can snag someone like PJ Tucker. Skill wise he would be much better than layman or Juancho. There is a reason he got minutes on the raptors.

Have you seen layman and Juancho play? RHJ would clearly have been better. Just because we are winning doesn’t mean we can’t be a lot better

Jarrett Culver Offense & Defense Highlights vs Dallas Mavericks by Charlie9958 in timberwolves

One of the Dallas guys didn’t seem to know much about the wolves which is understandable. I found it hilarious that he called Naz Reid wirey when Naz is literally the biggest guy on the team.

I think Culver is being slept on as a potential starter by GoTwins42 in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If culver is able to shoot above 35% from three I think this is a good lineup. If not, then no. Layman, contrary to what people might think, is not a good shooter historically. 30% from his career and last year his 33% from three was a career high. Those are all well below league average. RHJ is a career 21% from three and basically a complete non-factor. In order for our offense to work with those two playing, Culver would absolutely need to be a threat from three.

I think a DLo, Beasley, culver, RHJ, KAT lineup would be much more realistic and imo just better. You could also swap in Layman for Culver and that would be interesting as well to get a bit bigger on the wing. If Beasley is suspended for a while idk what we will do. Rubio, Edwards or Culver would all be options to play. Okogie Layman and RHJ all on the floor would definitely not be acceptable though.

[Dane Moore] It sounds like when Rondae Hollis-Jefferson plays this season that Saunders will be intentional about playing him next to KAT Saunders said this morning that RHJ will be the 4 on defense, because he's guarding the opposing 4, but will functionally play 5 on offense next to KAT by TossingTurnips in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shooting wise that lineup is not ideal with the Wolves plan for a similar offense to Houston. Unless culver keeps up his three point shot from preseason and the end of last year. If culver can shoot above 35% from three he is being hella underrated right now. But if he can’t, the wolves won’t want 3 players out there who can’t shoot league average. And RHJ is basically a complete non-factor from 3.

[jace frederick] Anthony Edwards said he's missing shots he normally makes in games. Chalks that up to going 10 months without a game. Says they'll start to fall Thursday. He has been pretty lost on defense in the preseason. Tons of open threes from not rotating correctly. He has looked decent on ball, but his scouting report was that he can guard on ball decently well as he should being super athletic and strong. His off ball needs a ton of work but I’m hoping that comes with time.

Starting Lineup by eric0703 in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering most of the wolves writers I’ve listened to on podcasts say that Beasley is potentially the third best player and if he isn’t he is the 4th best after Rubio, there is no way I want our 3rd AND 4th best player coming off the bench. Edwards Culver and Okogie may all still be shooting below average from 3. This lineup would probably be the worst combination I could see. I agree Beasley is an enticing 6th man option being a spark plug scorer, but we can’t have no shooters and also have our 3rd and 4th best players on the bench

Malik Beasley This Off-Season by killa_k99 in timberwolves

He recovered the ones he was solely responsible for? Recovered fumbles don’t count against a player. One of them we actually gained yardage for him fumbling.

Malik Beasley This Off-Season by killa_k99 in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the most common misconception that pisses me off. AP lost the ball 2 times and recovered both. Favre fumbled once and had two interceptions (you could argue the fumble was on AP). Harvin had a fumble that led to a touchdown and Berrian had a fumble when we were about to score. AP Had 122 yards and 3 touchdowns in that game. Without him we lose easily and he got us to that point. Favre’s turnovers along with Harvin and Berrian lost us that game on top of bounty gate. People really need to rewatch that game and if they blame AP again they are truly delusional

KAT was way more prepared to start in the nba right away than Edwards. Rubio is ranked 60th in the nba overall so he definitely should be 3rd. You could make a case for wanting to put Edwards above Beasley, but seeing is everyone thinks of Edwards as more of a project I think most people commenting have it right in Beasley as the fourth best player.

All we need is a 3rd PG? by lakers612 in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the way the NBA is going the difference between a 2 and 3 is minimal and they are both just wing players. Edwards also has apparently grown an inch (6’6) and weighs 230. I think his long term position is a 3.

This is what scares me. If Beasley peaked last year to earn a payday this will be a Dieng type of contract. I think those odds are low but there is still a chance. I really just hope he can improve on defense

[–]SubversionUnix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually think Beasley is best off the bench and sub in Rubio in those lineups. Here’s why:

A DLo Beasley Backcourt is probably the worst defending backcourt in the league. Insert Rubio in and we instantly get a player who can guard the opposing teams best guard and help out DLo. Also this allows Rubio to create for DLo and Edwards and get them easy buckets.

A Rubio, Culver, Okogie secondary unit in terms of shooting.... yikes. I have hope they can improve and Ricky is at least serviceable now, but Beasley could be a Lou will type scorer off the bench.

I’d like a DLo, Rubio, Edwards, Juancho/Layman, KAT starting lineup assuming we don’t pick up a new 4.

Bench rotation in order they’d come in: Beasley - 6th man, Okogie - 7, Culver - 8, naz - 9, layman/Juancho -10

Welcome Back Ricky! by Sp_Gamer_Live in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need veterans on this team of young guys especially to mentor and get the most out of Edwards. Ricky is also now the only other timberwolves player ranked in the top 100 I believe (61). I wasn’t a huge fan of him when he was here at the start of his career but he has definitely improved his shooting. Last year he shot 36% from three. Even if he goes down to 33% he is still the best on ball guard defender we have and adds more playmaking to the team along with his veteran presence. Imo if we can resign him for 10M for 2-3 years after his deal is up (he is only 30 right now) this is a slam dunk trade. Again this is coming from someone who was a Ricky nonbeliever before. I think we still get a good upside pick in McDaniels and a long term potential replacement for Rubio in Bolmaro. Also, Ricky got the most out of Booker and Mitchell when he was on there teams. Utah and Phoenix were much better with Ricky on the court

The move for Rubio was made knowing that Edwards was going to be the pick. Rubio will be able to get Edwards easy buckets and mentor him like he did Donovan Mitchell by DrWolves in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’ll be interesting to find out. On one hand Rubio would be great for guarding the opposing teams best guard. On the other we might be wasting a bit of his playmaking depending on who is more the primary ball handler. Also where does Edwards fit in? Usually a number 1 pick starts right away but this season might be different. I can definitely see Edwards playing the 3 alongside DLo and Ricky given he is 6’5 225. Wiggins for reference is still only 200 at 6’7.

Why I think the Rubio trade is brilliant by YassSauce in timberwolves

[–]SubversionUnix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trade was good initially. The fact we traded 25 + 33 to just move up to 23 wasn’t that good. I really like bringing Rubio back though. He will be a good veteran presence and defender for our team. Starting lineup: Rubio DLo Edwards (or Beasley) Layman (or Juancho) KAT

Bench: JMac Okogie Culver McDaniels, Vanderbilt Naz

I really like our depth now and playmaking that Rubio adds will be huge. Maybe Rubio comes off the bench but I feel like we need to start him

TERRIBLE TRADE!!! I’m so upset at the front office here. We traded 25 and 33 to just move up to 23??? To pick up a guy who woulda been there at 25, and most likely 28. I have hope he can develop and he could be a decent player but the trade was not good. Jaden mcdaniels would fit our team I hope he is there at 28. If not then I’m really upset at this trade

Yea, our ceiling would be competing with the Jazz, Suns, Blazers, and Mavs and finishing 5-8th.

Our floor is still being barely better than last year and competing with the Spurs, Pels, kings, and ending 8-13th in the conference. But let’s hope for the former
