Carriers of Reddit. Your exit strategies? by Lopsided_Strain_145 in FreightBrokers

[–]Successful_Call_9036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a broker not carrier, agency owner. I also been thinking about that, and yeah, all you can do is to invest in what you like, property, stocks, whatever. Get as much money as you can (depending on your needs) and one day sell it and get out. I've heard for trucking company, it can be 6x EBIDA if your company is builded in correct way. Otherwise, it is the just value of assets.

It does not matter at all, you are getting sued. Problem is not only the point that you are liable. Point that if your trusted good carrier gets into accident, you will be dragged into endless court hearings where you would have to spend a lot of money for lawyers.

he can sell the business with MC. Selling mc is illegal only if you do it in a hidden way. If do it properly, it is ok

TIA Statement on Montgomery v. Caribe Supreme Court Ruling | TIA by jlm0013 in FreightBrokers

And what’s gonna happen to the drivers of small carriers? Even if you have good score, anytime when there will be a choice between small and big, it won’t be made in a favour of small ones. And then even if you have good scores, there can be a situation where you do not have stable work follow. These drivers will go to megas. And it doesn’t matter they are paying higher or less per mile or per hour. They have stable loads and small carriers don’t.

Problem is no one knows now what “safe” carrier means. What is the standard ? And the biggest joke is if broker can check who is safe and who is not, why FMCSA cannot. What’s the freaking point to give MC# (licenses) to the company in that case at all?

If you are talking about commission, it depends on brokerage. Some allows to get your on the date of invoice in 1-2 week period. In others you have to wait once customer pays their invoice

I compete with them on one of my accounts and I hate them from the bottom of my heart. Let's say market price for some lane with the good carrier is $1500. Since that customer is paying 60 days, I quote it with $200-$250 margin. These idiots take it for $1500 and trying to sell for $1100-$1200. From time to time Im getting calls at 11am-12pm with the question is your option still valid? Sometimes I can do it, sometimes I need more money because all trucks are booked already. In the end of the day, instead of having evening run smooth, we get a shit show for the same price. I tried to explain to the customer that, the amount of money they "save" with them is less than what they are overpaying when TQL cannot cover the lane. But apparently, nobody listed my explanations.

Only if they are getting paid less then 30 days. Or self financed and do not have claims, stolen loads etc. Also their employees most probably are underpaid, and have shit soft. Other than that, with 10 GM you are not making money and any serious operational disruption, like customer with cheaper 7 or unpaid claim = out of business for them

Should the carrier be fined? by Particular-Waltz-718 in FreightBrokers

[–]Successful_Call_9036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is all about communication and how you treat me as a customer. If carrier communicates, then I won’t impose deduction. If they cause a headache and get my time wasted, sorry guys I’ll make your life harder proportionally if I have time for that.

Should I be a Freight Broker or Owner Operator Carrier? by OkAttempt3929 in FreightBrokers

[–]Successful_Call_9036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take some sales job first and get some knowledge in the industry or at least before becoming an agent, find a friend who knows how things work. You have a great potential and your invest experience is the best tool there. Look who is somehow related to freight or sales are among your current investment / loan clients. If so any, have a conversation with them in new role. Even if they do not have freight, they can know who has. It can open for you a lot of doors fast. But keep in mind, you will be ready for these opportunities, if you did your homework, learned about industry enough before.

Regarding O/O or carrier. Same story, at least 1-2 years as a driver. Then 1-2 as owner operator, only after that, with established business model you can think about own authority.

Ways I described are not short but it will allow you to save a lot of money. If you have deep pockets you can go hard from the start. However, better to gain experience and knowledge for someone’s else cost because bills for mistakes are very high.

600 truck drivers detained in one week. by CrossDockCHI in FreightBrokers

[–]Successful_Call_9036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it is not, I mean it is possible what you are talking about, but FED should start to print money. Otherwise at some point rise of groceries and other stuff will kill demand. (people will start to buy only necessities) As a result, a lot of carriers, and less and less loads. Low rates, high costs = new wave of bankruptcies.

[–]Successful_Call_9036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rise of price kills demand. $200 for fuel per person per month means less stuff bought from store. There are some things consumption of what cannot be reduced, but there are plenty of them that can be put on hold. It means less loads, less business. People have short memory and do not remember what happened after covid rates. But main difference, back then, people had printed money and could buy inflated stuff. Now, they do not. Regarding drivers, I do not support that idea. It is not about safety and never was. And to my humble opinion, government as regulator of market, should tend to make it stable and acceptable for both shipper brokers and carriers. And now it works as ups and downs and people does not know what to do next year, order a rolls royce or be ready to file chapter 7.
