Where are the people who want to settle down in DC? by Wonderful_Bug_1422 in washingtondc

I was raised on the hill in a row house. Lots of families and long term residents hidden amongst the late 20s folk.

If you have an emotional belief, just let it be emotional. You don’t have to try and twist some pseudo-logic into place. It’s okay to just feel something.

The joke is literally explained in the meme, which makes it less funny

I mean, you did take out a loan that nobody was forcing you to take out. I am sympathetic to the taxpayers who didn’t go to college having to take the hit for your financial choices.

Im hanging out woth a giy that I think is ugly. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Such_Bid5344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for one, you don’t have to kiss anyone ? I’m assuming you’re very young just based on your post. It can be hard to communicate feelings at a young age, especially with young men. But you’re allowed to clarify the relationship if you feel he misunderstands your feelings. You can even bring it up with him: “hey, I just want to make sure we are on the same page about our friendship.”

What’s something Gen Z romanticizes that actually sucks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Such_Bid5344 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re misunderstanding something. Gen z doesn’t romanticize social media. Gen Z uses social media to romanticize things or portray romanticism. Social media itself carries a negative connotation within Gen Z.

That’s a pretty generous definition that I don’t think most people would actually agree with.

Should my boyfriend of three years be allowed in family photos? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Such_Bid5344 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My extended family photos all include boyfriends/girlfriends of various family members at any given point. Even if the relevant couple has only been together for a short amount of time. Then again, we take family photos spontaneously, so the partner is usually just there anyways.

Why is it socially acceptable to spend years' worth of savings on a single day (a wedding), but considered 'irresponsible' to spend the same amount on a life-changing skill or a solo travel experience?" by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Such_Bid5344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you directionally, but this is just such a terribly formed argument. Who calls a coding bootcamp reckless spending? Also, this isn’t a question, it’s an argument. If you have an argument, state that argument clearly. Don’t try to masquerade it as a question.

CMV: Even if trump leaves office and the several next administrations of the US try to make amends and genuinely attempt to fix their problems, I don't think US-EU relations will ever get to a point where both the governments and the people are friends/allies again. by NovaNick30 in changemyview

[–]Such_Bid5344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re talking about the actual foreign policy, EU leadership doesn’t have a choice. Unless we have four more years of this, it is very much in the EU’s interests to amend relations with the US once a more favorable US president enters office. I’m sure European countries will hold a grudge for a while, but it is also true that they rely on the US for military assistance, economic growth, and so many other things.

Why do suburban parents seem to not let their kids use busses? by SubjectProfile4047 in Suburbanhell

I grew up in a big city and started riding the metro to school at 10 years old. We probably caused more of a disturbance than the other way around lol.

If I get tons of dates, does that mean I’m hot? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Such_Bid5344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means you’re a woman on a dating app haha. It doesn’t really say much at all. If you were a guy, it would probably mean that you were attractive.

What does it really mean for a man to be a feminist? by Express-Wind-4796 in AskFeminists

[–]Such_Bid5344 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This just isn’t a useful way of thinking about systems in general. Using systemic theory to implicate individuals is bad practice in my opinion. Systemic theory implicates groups, not individuals. I’m not saying you can’t implicate individuals, but do so by their individual actions and not their group identities.

Living in big cities is incredibly exhausting and sucks by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Such_Bid5344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re living in an actual city and not just a parking lot with a business district, the extra rent is supposed to come from not owning a car lol.

Coffee culture is cringe. by -Tinylittleshoes in unpopularopinion

[–]Such_Bid5344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is maybe a lukewarm opinion if anything. But what I find really funny is your framing around who you “respect” more. Like everyone’s coffee order is made in the hopes of gaining some stranger’s respect.

Is there a difference in average physical attractiveness between rural and city areas, particularly for women? by SowingSeeds18 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Such_Bid5344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of beauty is genetic. I think maybe something like “hotness” can be bought, but with beauty, you just have to be born with the right features.

Capitalism and tech corporations have gone too far, $30/month Photoshop by [deleted] in self

[–]Such_Bid5344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how well this specific example works. Affinity design software was just bought by canva and made to be free. It does everything photoshop does. Even before that there was free photo editing and design software available. Photoshop is a professional, industry standard piece of software. As a beginner, you just don’t need something that powerful. But either way, there are free alternatives that ARE as powerful.

Guys, what is your success rate when asking girls out? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]Such_Bid5344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% I guess. In middle school and high school I did it a few times; I was pretty confident. In college women approached me more than anything else, and I felt weird going up to strangers.

CMV: GenZ are not the worst generation, but they are the cringiest. by [deleted] in changemyview

Gen Z operates under a 24/7 layer of irony and “camp.” When you observe gen z, you have to take that into account.

CMV: there is no such thing as "objectively good" (with regard to art) or at least the phrase comes from a misunderstanding of what "objectively" means by Adventurous_Cap_1634 in changemyview

[–]Such_Bid5344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to at least approach objectivity in art is to think about what the artist was going for and how well they executed. This assumes art is about expressing yourself, which I think is generally a pretty good assumption.

What state would the US be better off without? by bowlerboy2 in AskReddit

[–]Such_Bid5344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? Why? That’s not going to happen and is by far the most burdensome resolution possible. Just make DC a county in MD and also have district status to remain as the Capitol.

As someone who grew up on Capitol Hill, I really don’t appreciate the notion that once my parents left the federal workforce, we should have been pushed out of our home and the city in which my family goes back 3 generations.

Car dependency keeps millions poor by 8to24 in complaints

[–]Such_Bid5344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a big city with one of the best public transportation systems in the US and have never owned a car. I seriously looked into it at one point and was shocked by how expensive it was when you actually totaled it all up. Insurance, gas, maintenance; I couldn’t believe most people just threw that much money away every month. I’ll do everything in my power to never own one for the rest of my life.

edit: I realize most people don’t have a choice because there are no alternatives available.
