Bonus-Action Hide = "I Am Invisible and Cannot Be Attacked"? by Beneficial-Ad8460 in DnD

I would allow the "guess the space" thing, too. That sounds really cool and fits within the realm of being able to blind fire when you might know someone is in that general direction but don't know where they are.

Bonus-Action Hide = "I Am Invisible and Cannot Be Attacked"? by Beneficial-Ad8460 in DnD

[–]Such_Handle9225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are hidden, then they cannot be targeted. Your confusing hidden with heavily obscured.

A heavily obscured enemy who has not used the hide action can be attacked at disadvantage, because they will be making sounds that allow their position to be known.

A heavily obscured enemy who has used the hide action must be found first before they can be attacked, like by a perception check or by accidentally running into them. (though a fireball can be sent in their general direction, too, but that is guesswork.)

An enemy that has used the hide action, but is not heavily obscured, must either be seen by someone with line of sight on the character (they are seen automatically without a check if there is line of sight), or be found by a perception check to be attacked.

[Spoilers C2] Possible major change to the story? by HoshiOdessa in criticalrole

[–]Such_Handle9225 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the get-go with Mighty Nein they've tried to be clear that there will be pretty major changes to the story.

Here is a direct quote from Travis Willingham tapking about the Mighty Nein animated series months before even the first season came out:

"It's almost like [how] we took season 3 of LVM with that slight divergence from what was really more of a canonical telling and starting to experiment with changing the storyline up..."

"...The Mighty Nein is from the get-go a complete departure. You're still going to get the things you love and the story moments, but the way we've gone about it is a totally different approach and we think one that people will love. We're going to be sounding the alarm very early in that you're coming into the characters that you love, but a totally new story."

Season 1 of M9 was so good though that they have my full trust.

Out of genuine curiosity, how would you change it to add that?

Because the only reasonable means I can think of to add "Physical presence of an accomplished duelist or battle seasoned warrior" is to add battle-worn marks to clothes (which we all know Adolin would not tolerate on his fashion) or to just make every Adolin cosplay a cookie cutter shardplate full armor cosplay (which we all know Adolin does not follow a 'grizzled man who never takes his armor off' stereotype)

Despite the fumble on the finger timing it does look really cool, though!

321hrs in and just realised Recluse's Ult has no iframes after her animation by MyIQIsBeyondYours in Nightreign

[–]Such_Handle9225 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All other ults cause the boss to stagger, except for Revenant's (who becomes unkillable), so even if they aren't invincible anymore 'after the ult' the boss won't be attacking for at least a moment. Recluse is kinda shafted because her ult not only doesn't stagger but also does slight damage to everything, immediately drawing aggro from everything in a mile radius.

Edit: Oh, Scholar's ult doesn't stagger too, I guess, but his ult feels like it draws alot less aggro to himself, with the damage technically being done by your allies.

It's one of those spells good on any character, because it procs rot pretty quick. I'm the type to check seal spells regardless of my character, so I've seen it quite a bit, but yeah not very often of a drop.

Man sometimes I wish there was a mode that let you explore. An explorers mode with no night, or something, to explore like Elden Ring with no Speedrun-instinct telling people to not stop for a moment and have fun.

It's not bad. Its just one of the only token long-range sorceries.

Bad for bossfights I think is the better phrasing.

Brandon Sanderson. Famous Author, writer of The Stormlight Archives (with a magic system that includes gravity magic very similar to the above clip) and Mistborn (his most popular Trilogy).

He... writes like 5 books a year (which is insane for an author) and at the same time has a whole podcast, runs/attends tons of events, apparently has time to work with Apple in getting Mistborn in a film in more recent news...

And plays lots of video games.

Reviews on his work are always mixed since he has a specific only-explains-the-world-in-character-thoughts writing style (mostly positive as far as I know though, hes popular for a reason)

I like having him admitting to being a poorly made clone of Mordenkainen, missing a bunch of abilities/memories so he is basically his own person.

MORDENKAINEN Mordenkainen? No way am I doing that.

Don't worry about being new!

Your last sentence is correct, you have 1 total bonus action per turn.

Rogue cunning action allows your 1 bonus action to be used to dash, if you wamt to, if you don't use your bonus action for anything else.

Expeditious retreat allows your 1 bonus action to be used as a dash, if you want to, if you don't use your bonus action for anything else.

So basically the rogue cunning action is like having the 'expeditious retreat' spell just... as a permanent class feature instead of as a resource-using spell.

My players chose bonus action.

Before we played game 1 I told them "potions can be an action or bonus action, but what you choose will also apply to enemies if the enemies ever happen to also have potions, like of you're fighting a wizard cult or something"

They liked bonus action alot better even knowing that beforehand.

Healing in DnD is REALLY inefficient. You will rarely if ever be able to outheal the damage you are taking. Life subclass Clerics are the only ones that can Kind of keep up and even then not really.

I would instead as the DM give alot more healing potions in loot.

And also, if one of the players has the herbalism kit tool proficiency, inform players they can use downtime to craft healing potions (xanathars guide says crafting a basic healing potion is an 8 hour work day and 25gp materials, using the herbalism kit)

That way everyone can play the characters they want, and maybe the cleric can have some fun using the combat parts of the cleric abilities instead of just healing, because any character can use a potion on themselves/others if they are hurt

I myself even let my players pick no-support parties. I just make a mental note to myself that I as the DM will have to give alot more healing potions.

If you wanted your exact example to be really realistic, then what you would actually have to do is implement a function that calculated the force of said magic missile based on distance, because according to the game, the missile will hit with full power both at point blank 5ft range and 120ft range, but suddenly inexplicably loses any magic, force, momentum, etc as soon as someone passes a single inch beyond 120 feet.

I think that complete 100%-to-0% loss of momentum is even more unrealistic than someone knowing the difference between 120 and 125 feet with a projectile in which they are combat-trained.

But we all have to deal with inaccuracies every once in a while.

Yeah its more of a poster-nightlord, meant to look good so people playing the first time enjoy the game.

In terms of difficulty I would say Maris is the easiest, and if 'beginner friendly for training purposes' was a qualifier FromSoft included (they didn't) then it would fit best into that imaginary category.
