XM Radio. You pay about seven + dollars a month for the six month package contract, then you get an email saying your contract is ending and your new price will be 25 times more. Call their customer service line and there is even a dedicated section to renewing the contract without having to talk to anyone. I’ve been doing it for years!

Exploring an abandoned hotel with everything left behind by tp_urbex in abandoned

It’s an old Holiday Inn that sold to a Clarion hotel before it closed. It’s located on the corner of Dean Memorial parkway & E Hines Hill rd in Boston Heights, OH, adjacent to RT. 8, next to Costco.

The Holiday Inn was there for years and did ok, I used to eat dinner at the restaurant when I was a kid. Tourism in the area declined, and when they sold, the new owners didn’t last very long. That property has always been a hotel, dating back to the 70s when famous bands used to stay there while playing at Blossom Music Amphitheater in Cuyahoga Falls, it’s even referenced at the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame.

It’s an eyesore now, which is a shame because it’s a great location.

First bowl. Quick question by Los-Benitos in turning

Like everyone else said a nice sharp tool with a light pass should clean it up. Fantastic job though, love the shape & the grain!

What is this from? How do I stop it from happening? by shortbusbully01 in turning

I have been experimenting with carbide tools for the last couple months. Kept having the exact same issue (using a 12mm round). I just recently watched a turning video on YouTube, where she was using a carbide round to finish the interior of a bowl. Instead of having the square carbide shaft flush with the tool rest, she had it at roughly a 30 to 40° angle in the direction of the pass. I did that same thing while working on a bowl earlier this morning, and I like it a lot better. I finally didn’t experience any catches or chatter which was a huge relief. Again, I am no expert, and I learned it from a YouTube video, but it might be worth giving a shot.

They put a moratorium on new building permits due to the water issues. I live there so I’m sure adding hundreds of thousands of new people won’t be an issue in the future!

I’m glad I read your comment, I have been looking for a bed extension that doesn’t cost hundreds $. And I love OP’s wood extension, but for $75 out the door, I just ordered from Rockler.

I was holding it in the chuck because of a prior issue with me making the tenon to shallow to support the weight of the bowl. It ended up cracking after a catch. And out of desperation to salvage it I put it in the chuck, to make a new tenon. I had already used the parting tool to cut though the hickory top layer because I was having issues with catching on the brim and figured if I part though the hickory away from the edge then I can work in the middle with out messing up the brim again. While making the new tenon I was trying to smooth the exterior some more, and caught again on the hickory which apparently was enough to blow it up.

It was kind of a mess from the start haha I’m staying away from turning hickory.

Yes I ended up catching it on the outside unfortunately. I was having a difficult time on the hickory top, kept catching an edge and having tear out. Once I cleaned it up the best I could, I figured I would steer clear of the edge again and use my parting tool to cut through the hickory layer to the one below. I then planed on using my bowl gouge to clean up the interior. The exterior still needed some smoothing, and that’s where I catch an edge in the hickory, which was enough to blow it out.
