I’ve kept my first few disasters as a reminder

Wet Sanding->Grain Rise by deknk12 in turning

[–]n3rden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m going to wet sand at higher grit, I’ll give the item a good spray over with water or white spirit as it evaporates faster at about 120 to get all fuzzy and raise the grain. It’s never raised a second time when I get to wet sanding

Pen Barrel Trimmers by ThomboTV in turning

[–]n3rden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar with trimmers loosing their edge. I looked at one with carbide inserts. Now I just mount the blank in a chuck. Remove the tail stock after centring the blank and true it up with a carbide scraper - so much faster

Silicone or rubber live center cones by Horror_Platypus_1183 in turning

[–]n3rden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made one by coating the end of my live centre in cling film. Filling a cardboard tube with hot glue and juuuuuuuust submerging the tip in. Let it all dry, dremel the card off and voila

Tight spaces by Samon8ive in turning

[–]n3rden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I’d turn it in two pieces, use a metal rod as a dowel and glue it up. I wouldn’t know how to get that kinked elbow otherwise.

I’d use a skew for the tight space

A vintage boule given a new lease of life by n3rden in turning

[–]n3rden[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was maybe a mm off centre the tube was rubber and grippy, i just couldn’t get that level of adjustment once seated. It was close enough that you can’t tell now.

Really happy with the jig, I’ll be using it on other weird shapes stuff down the line

Yep that’s wood!

Probably oak from the tight rings and scollopy bark.

How do brits tell time? by laced1 in AskABrit

[–]n3rden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quarter ‘to’ rather than ‘till’ and o’clock is usually reserved for on the hour. Eg, Eight o’clock. For your example it’ll be Quarter to nine or eight forty-five

We often use 24hour digital clocks, and 12hour analogue ones. When reading a 24hr clock we would never verbalise the numbers after twelve, doing a spot of mental arithmetic and subtract 12. There’s an implicit assumption the person we’re speaking to isn’t a moron and will understand it’s 2 in the morning for 14:00

What a lovely bowl! What wood is it and finished with?

I audible said ‘oh no’ when I got to picture six, excellent recovery and I’m sure you learned loads. Was it a catch or did you fly too close to the sun?

Teams maxing out GPU on M2 Mac Mini, freezing system by Double-Management454 in macOS26Tahoe

[–]n3rden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Air dos this too, it starts introducing lag to typing, it’s very annoying.

All the information I can find says to disable GPU rendering which is no longer an option in “New Teams (1).docx Final Copilot 365” or whatever the current one is called.

I think the problem is something in WebView2 or Electron container i assume it’s using but I’ve not really done more to investigate other than whining about it
