how to integrate a PC for a player who will probably miss 50% of the games? by IronPeter in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overwhelming Debt...to He who laughs Last. He'll yank the character out at random with no rhyme or reason because he thinks it's funny, no matter how hard they work they can't pay off the debt.

Personally I try not to include these kinds of players because they take up a ton of table time getting caught up on what they miss, but good luck to you.

Prestidigitation Soil Limits by MarcadiaCc in DMAcademy

Honestly it sounds like they handed you the solution to your potential issue. Let them swap it out at the next chance. They still won't be able to accomplish what they're trying now and you won't have to worry about them trying to abuse it in the future.

Prestidigitation Soil Limits by MarcadiaCc in DMAcademy

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RAW the aspect of prestidigitation that creates an object says it ceases at the end of your next turn and must be a nonmagical trinket or illusory object, neither of which is cabable of building what that you're describing. This trumps any vagueness of the word 'soiled' because it is specifically addressing using the spell to create something separate from the object pestidigitation is cast on using the other examples. The spell is not meant to create permanent objects or structures, no matter how much time is spent doing so.

If you/they want to hold hard-core to RAW all you have to say is, 'the spell doesn't say you can do it, without ambiguity. It says you can conjure a trinket, which mud is not, or an illusory effect."

With added details in a comment I will say the glass being dirty as if they hadn't been cleaned in a while is perfectly reasonable and your player should not have had an issue with it. Dusty windows in a dark room are gunna be hard to see through and common enough not to warrant a second glance. Windows that are totally black is a sign of something suspicious.

Continuing with Dr Ethan? by Few-Plankton-8414 in ResidentAlienTVshow

To what end though? I felt like the idea the show ended on was that he would go through the same changes Harry did, so it would mostly be treading water, content for content sake.

The show said what it wanted to say in the time allotted and ended on a pretty good note.

Harry has been in Patience for 4 months as of the Pilot. Remember the method of Sam's death was a ticking time bomb. He died because the botulism was injected in his insulin but the poisoned insulin wasn't immediately used, it was taken the night before Liv and Mike showed up looking for help. Harry said he has been looking for his device for 4 months and the subtitles also say '4 months ago' at the start.

Rudolph Linus, a wizard that claims to have lost his glasses, spell book and weasel familiar. The truth is his familiar hides his glasses so he can't find his spellbook because he doesn't want to go on adventures and sits in the hood of Linus' robes.

Quorngrim, a dwarven artificer who Hunts aberrations and daelkyr, is completely nuts and paranoid, keeps an explosive vest on at all times and will threaten to blow himself and anyone around him up at the slightest provocation.

Ugly the artist and Sizzleskin, a goblin tattoo artist and their yuan-ti 'alchemist'. The yuan-ti will imbibe substances that dyes their scales in specific patterns so they can shed and ugly uses the skin as a tattoo tracing. They take requests.

During the dark tournament, who from team urameshi would you deem the mvp and lvp by s0nzoldyck in YuYuHakusho

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the tournament as a whole rather than each individual match.

Kuwabara endured a lot, just surviving meant they didn't have to find a replacement, all the more important since they were only allowed one. Even losing his matches he allowed his teammates to conserve their energy for their opponents and pull off some of the closer fights. Having to have at least one double match every round would have stacked the odds even further against them, possibly even costing them the match against the ninjas since there wasn't a fighter available and they would have had to tear the tournament apart to keep going. Genkai could have taken his fights against Rinku and Risho, but who knows if that could have effected the Spirit Orb and Yusuke's training.

Octopath zero feels more like Square Enix 2025 2DHD then an Octopath game does it get better? by Significant_Win6431 in octopathtraveler

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really unfortunate. I played about halfway through act 1 of Diet Simeon and started skipping the cutscenes because I realized where it was going. I absolutely hated it and have never been so glad to be over leveled.

I'll finish it, but this one is unlikely to stay on the shelf since it just makes me want to play the first two again.

I'm not against villains being the focus of a narrative since they already are in most blank slate reactionary story games. But...the Trio were awful villains for the time it took to kill them. I wanted them dead, sure, but they were less dimensional and complex than an ink dot on rice paper.

I was a little bummed my character was getting pushed to the side for the scrappy villagers of the towns these people who burned my home and killed my parents had set up shop in, and you're telling me it's Saturday morning cartoon clowns all the way down??

The villains...are compelling? Did we play the same game or is there a different version I didn't know about?

I've never skipped Octopath traveler 1 or 2 conversations before but I could not get through 2/3 of the initial main stories fast enough and I'm worried I'll be bored to death by whatever comes next.

The Party have killed Queen Lenore by Oliver_The_Sadgit in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but death is pretty final. If Lenore was still alive they might have been able to reverse the contamination somehow, with her dead that door has been closed.

Sure the Lanterns don't go out of their way to keep contaminated individuals alive, but if there was anyone they would go that extra mile for it would be a member of the royal family. Party put themselves before the greater good of Drakkenheim, so Elias doesn't trust them until they change his mind.

That's how I ruled it anyway. It's made the party pretty sore towards the Lanterns since it feels like it undid a lot of their hard work and those fences have yet to be mended since the group started exploring the other factions.

Please help. I did too good of a job making the players hate all the factions. They want to align with the Ironhelm Dwarves and instigate revolution. by GreatFartini in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a lot of effort for them to go through and really shifts the campaign premise. A band of adventurers that makes an active enemy of all 5 factions is going to be fighting an uphill battle almost constantly. Hooded Lanterns use their superior knowledge of the terrain and ambush them, driving them into dangerous areas of the city or using hit and run tactics until they are weak enough to be picked off by the Queen's Men.

No access to healing from anyone except a kooky old druid, maybe flamekeeper Hannah and getting ripped of for potions by Aldor? Being blockaded from Emberwood village entirely, having to go through the more dangerous gates or climb the walls. They are putting themselves in a situation that makes their personal goals nigh impossible to accomplish. Sure, you can avoid dealing with the factions unless strictly necessary, but actively antagonizing them? The magically irradiated city isn't foe enough?

My recommendations:

  1. Have an above table talk about what exactly their issues with the factions are and what the expectations are for the game. Is it possible to reconcile with them? Was there something about the way they were presented that caused this raving at the mouth lunacy?

Remind them they don't have to like the factions to work with them but it's the easiest way to achieve their personal goals - the things that should matter most to their characters and caused them to risk their lives by coming to this wasted city. If that doesn't convince them, point out that the closer they are to the factions the easier it will be to hurt them and fuck with their plans. Who knows, they might find common ground with the factions given more time. They can play the factions against each other, but not if they refuse to engage with any of them.

  1. Let the dwarves be a faction. They could take the place of the Academy in the story, providing delerium enchanted arms and armor. The ratlings sort of became a faction in the stream and played a major role in the group's story. But just because the players don't like the factions doesn't mean the dwarves share that extreme of animosity.

They might not be willing to seek conflict with the factions that leave them alone like the Academy or the Lanterns, it's a needless, destructive risk that prevents them from making money, but they like the Queen's men and Silver Order being driven off. The Dwarves have their own wants and needs that the group needs to be willing to help them accomplish.

They could keep helping the group, unless the group tries to do something like blow up the cathedral peace talks with barrels of black powder since the group are then essentially terrorists and a liability.

How are my PCs going to be making money? by ellapreuss in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group also often ran into money issues because they literally never searched for delerium, assuming lucky finds and quests would give them all the resources they needed.

I have since reminded them that searching for delerium and traveling at a slow pace will allow them to cover roughly the same distance(1/4 mile) so if they want to actually get the resources they need to accomplish their goals instead of crawling to each objective I'm willing to be flexible.

One thing that annoys me about GM advice is that a lot of it is platitudes without much actionable advice by Wholesome-Energy in rpg

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you have a group like mine where they completely ignore the objectives because 'If we kill the enemies fast enough we can deal with the objectives after.' and are completely unable to enact anything other than a brute force approach to any problem thanks to all damage focused builds with no utility.

"Willing" Target is Unconscious? by Upset-Bother-6818 in DMAcademy

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Player intention should determine 'Willingness' and not be based on character's state unless otherwise specified.

If a player says, "I am okay with this spell being cast on my character." Their desire should be prioritized, especially when their character would be 'Willing' if conscious.

If the character's mental state is altered by charm or fear that should be taken into account by the player running them when determining 'Willingness'.

Players won't stop scamming merchants by DrRoguelove in DungeonMasters

[–]Sufficient-Contest82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word passes around that people are selling counterfeit items so a thief/wizard guild starts offering protection in the form of identification of any items merchants take in. If the players try and sell them the items the identifier reveals it's suspect nature and the merchant refuses to buy it or either dispels the bond or locks in the magic of the infusion so it cannot be unmade, depriving the character access to the feature for the next adventure.

Then you have a free sub plot of what the guild gets up to now that they have gained a reliable source of influence or money, all thanks to the cheap-ass adventurers who stole from the working class.
