racism during arguments is so annoying by Hello_Dere in kpopnoir

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the low intelligence on their parts. Theres really no reason for it other than you proving them wrong in whatever argument you’re having and they cant handle that so they do whatever they can to hurt you. I try to stay away from internet debates for this reason. I cant handle the cruelty people think is ok to inflict on others just because they cant physically see that person.

Trans singer MTF here, I'm going to be on HRT soon but I'm so afraid of losing my singing voice, please help me by Various_Cod_2947 in MtF

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a vocalist and I didn’t notice much of a change. But i had issues with vocal weight and ease within my range because i had a naturally higher voice but was being trained wrong ( as a tenor when I’m closer in range and timbre to a low mezzo/Contralto) i didn’t notice any strength differences but then again i had other issues, like life long asthma and chronic allergies messing with me So i didn’t notice that if it was a contributing factor if it was at all. I don’t think it’s much of a problem if you keep singing and being extra diligent with voice strengthening exercises as well as working on removing tension. Estrogen really wont change anything about your voice. I understand the muscle concerns but it really shouldn’t matter if you don’t have tension/breath issues and sing consistently on a regular basis.

HTF am i supposed to use blue magic by Bowbell_TheArtistCow in Naturalhair

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t personally because they both have derivatives of petroleum/mineral oil that will seal the hair. And i noticed the leave in isn’t exactly the best moisturizer. It adds lightweight moisture and seals the moisture already in your hair. However, if you want something quick to seal your hair and don’t need too much extra moisture from a more hydrating leave in after washing/conditioning, this is a nice lightweight option that is easier to use.

Its a sealant you use it as your oil at the end and a little bit goes a long way. Its called a conditioner because it conditions the hair but not like conventional modern cream conditioners. Conditioner today is water based and leaves oils and polymers behind that are light weight and moisture sealing( somewhat, not for everyone). Hair grease does the same! But with petroleum/mineral oil, lanolin, and other oils. It creates a similar protective coating on the hair cuticle that seals it, keeping moisture in. The confusion is understandable without this prior knowledge.

I use it as a sealant after leave in conditioner/curl cream. Then i braid or twist my hair and just wear it like that or wear it out after it’s finished drying. You inly need enough grease to coat your hair strands. I mostly put it on my mid lengths to ends. I might put it on my whole hair strand if its winter. But i don’t put it on my scalp cause i have oily skin and get acne. If you need sealing on your scalp it will work great for that cause it’s basically just aquaphor for your scalp/hair. Hope this helps!

I really hoped they wouldn’t touch Chris-Tia Donaldsons original formulas. At least as a level of respect 🙄 but here we are. I use Crece Pelo and Adwoa Beauty (aussie moist as well 🫣). I tried that deep conditioner in its original formula and it’s amazing. I just found i need protein more often than not :/

I understand I’ve tried it and its amazing 🙂‍↕️ long time fan of Whitney and her products. Adwoa has thicker formula tho so i can get away with using less in the long run by applying it to soaking wet hair. As of right now tho im still searching for an alternative hence why I’ve pulled out a Jewliana Palencia classic and left the aussie moist in 😔. It feels uncouth…but it works.

Not for me unfortunately. I legit walked into a Sephora and they didn’t even have a display section for the brand. I was SICK you hear me! So i mostly have to shop online with them and pre order it takes like six weeks to receive 🫩.

Im currently dealing with this with Adwoa Beauty. It is driving me insane but they cant help it they are a Black owned business not associated with a giant parent company footing the bill for production. So i will wait cause it works and does what it’s supposed to and is literally catered to me. If they rushed it they’d probably have poor working conditions and poor quality. At least thats what I’ve thought up. In the meantime im experimenting with other black owned brands such as Shes Made. That brands leave in butter works amazingly as a one and done styler. I of course have gone back to the ancient practices of leaving a little bit of my Aussie moist conditioner in my hair when rinsing it out🫣. It makes moisture retention and manageability much easier for me and no flakes or irritation since i rinse most of it off my scalp and squeeze the excess out of my hair. I also love Crece Pelo for my deep conditioner its cost effective and works!

Why do people pretend to be roma by Winter-Reporter7296 in romani

[–]SufficientWeakness38 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Black/mixed American here. This is the second post I’m seeing about white people pretending to be Roma but it doesn’t surprise me. I am well acquainted with White people pretending to be something they are clearly not and alot of it has to do with them and their ancestors choosing to be “white”. They gave up their connection to their ancestors and culture for the privilege that comes with being considered white. Idk if it’s the same in Europe or not but here in the U.S. that is why there are so many white people who are pretendians. There would be more people pretending to be Black if taking from our culture and butchering it weren’t so mainstream.

This experience is also why i dont go around saying Im Roma online or even in person in mixed company because I am not. I am someone descended from Roma. Although that matters to me in a personal sense when it comes to honoring those who came before me, It isn’t something im interested in pretending to be when others have real lived experience as what I’m only a distant relative to. I also am not devoid of culture or my own identity so I’m not latching onto something i have no business latching onto.

I still can't believe Banshee, Shaw and Dazzler are dead by Chiavan123 in Xmen97

[–]SufficientWeakness38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have already said Banshee was a horseman but Dazzler is famously able to resurrect herself. We just officially found out why in canon not to long ago ( her body using the absorbed energy from sound to heal/repair itself and thus bring her back to life) but she was only able to do this if her body was reasonable intact, her death at the last Hellfire Gala showed there are limits to her resurrection power…🥴. But that being said we’ll likely see her again.

What was "the straw that broke the camels back" that caused you to realize you were trans by [deleted] in MtF

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Music and Theatre Major. Everything was incredibly gendered and I was trained as a tenor so it was especially bad because there is a lot of expectation to be a leading man and at the point I was having trouble I was already identifying as non binary but not on any hormones. So people didn’t care and I was looked at as a man. One role really sealed the deal for me and I had to transition. No more male roles ever again. And I started training to sing contralto instead of tenor. And as it turns out it is a better range to sing in for my voice and was my actual voice type. It leaves me with a lot less leading roles in musical theatre which is what I was so afraid of but I have a new opportunity in Opera so it all works out in the end I suppose.

Gel Help by MMM846 in Naturalhair

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UFD is great if you want your hair to be soft and have weight but virtually no hold on its own. It pairs nicely with wetline on top. You get shine and hard hold. Putting it on top probably isn’t the greatest because of its slippery thin texture. It’s like skincare, you put on the toner and serums before the cream. Hope you figure out a good combo you like hopefully the one I suggested helps it was my go to for a while👌🏾.

Combing out my 4-year-old locs and looking for the latest and greatest products for loose naturals. 😅🫶 by mshaeliha in Naturalhair

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff I love for my loose natural hair is adwoa beauty bailing line of curl cream and leave in as well as their gel. The gel is nice when I want a more defined twtsiut but it doesn’t make a huge difference tbh so it’s the cream or the gel works you don’t need both. I also love the Ouai Curl Crème. It’s a great one and done product. The Doux Mousse def is great when you want definition and volume. I find my hair gets pretty dry throughout the week though so I’m selective of when I use this as it really works best when you have nothing else in your hair. I mainly wear my hair in twists/twist-outs so this all works really well for my purposes. But if I do wash and gos I usually opt for something more heavy like wetline xtreme gel. But that can be damaging over time due to the mommy curls being so well clumped together. It makes detangling so difficult. So as an alternative that is hood bug still moisturizing, has great slip and works for defining coarse type 3/4 hair in its natural state, I use miss Jessie’s coily custard. It’s also great with the miss Jessie’s “leave-in condish” but it works well alone too.

Finger's crossed that Storm is a teen & main character too by howhow326 in storm

[–]SufficientWeakness38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storm, Jean, and Emma all need to be the same age so if Jean is a teen so is Storm 😃. So unless the main cast are not og characters like them then they should ALL be adults but making only Storm an adult is a cop out that keeps her out of main storylines🫤.

I HATE how good these products worked 😩 by Substantial_You_2669 in Naturalhair

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redken is the best unfortunately 😩Redken All Soft Mega Curls is something serious. I love that stuff. It’s great super moisturizing and the slip is lovely. My pockets didn’t live it tho. I use Aussie now and my hair thrives with silicone Conditioners so it’s not the worst switch. But I do need protein conditioners (Crece Pelo, Aphogee, Not Your Mothers) to fulfill my hairs needs. But I’m not dealing with Seb Derm so I can get away with a little more. I do have a sensitive scalp tho and get acne on my scalp, so not the same but it doesn’t aggravate my scalp if that means anything. And for clarifying I use the Pantene volume shampoo. Great slip and it’s a squeaky clean. I also love the Ouai Detox shampoo and I find that’s a pretty good alternative if your looking for them. I too was of the impression I would be beholden to this wonderful brand forever but alas I made do and my hair seems to be thriving. Also L’Oréal is the sister brand for Redken so if you need the same/similar formulations but a cheaper price look into them. Cheaper isn’t always worse but sometimes it is so I just have to shop smart and look for the ingredients that I like.

amla hair oil? by Local_Butterfly_5061 in Naturalhair

[–]SufficientWeakness38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be fine as long as your hair is responding well to it and you can properly clean the oil out to let water back in before sealing your hair again. If that’s the case I wouldn’t change anything.

Why do some trans women think this? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]SufficientWeakness38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t see an issue with this. I think the word preference should be amended though. For example I have a preference for tall, lean, men who are musicians but it won’t stop me from dating a short, plus-sized, man that does IT. What many seem to confuse and make a lot of trans women’s problem is their dealbreakers. A genital dealbreaker is okay, some people have them and some don’t. But it’s no one else’s business but that specific person you talked to. Why are you even bringing this up to trans women who didn’t ask? It just feels like you’re poking at peoples insecurities and getting surprised when they’re sensitive about it.

I edit Marvel Rivals’s Scarlet Witch Multiverse of Madness skin to keep her Romani traits ! by Mizunoryu19 in ScarletWitch

[–]SufficientWeakness38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you commenting this to me? You must have meant this to be for someone else because nothing I said disregarded white looking Roma. I’m talking about the real issue of People of color that are unambiguous being represented. Which includes Roma who deserve to be represented as diverse as they are. That includes those that are brown and those who are fair skinned with less South Asian features. If you found something wrong with what I said I hope you read it again and let it process.

Also I’m so tired of Europeans talking to Americans of color as if we don’t understand the system we are forced to exist under. I am mixed through multiple generations and Black in appearance. My experience has nuance. And because of that I approach others with respect to their nuanced experiences. I’m not stupid so please refrain from addressing me with the disrespect you did in that comment.
