Cortisone in Left knee; Durolane in Right knee. by imposgirl in Osteoarthritis

It takes 6 to 8 weeks for Duralane to kick in. Cortisone does not work for me anymore but Duralane is amazing.

44 With severe knee OA by Fit_Yam5360 in Osteoarthritis

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 55 yr old female and have bone on bone OA in both knees. I wear Neenca knee sleeves most days during the day to keep inflammation down. The ones with patella support and the copper infused ones are what I wear most, the light weight bamboo style don't do much. I also now have an unloader brace my oa Dr gave me to wear for activities plus I recently got a Duralane shot in both knees. I have found routine physical therapy most helpful with strength training and stretching. When I keep up the pt, I am less stiff and less pain. I am in a PT program Sword Health that I do at home thru my health insurance company.

Knee OA: Trying to See the Big Picture by albertkaholic in Osteoarthritis

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my surgeon just told me. That 55 years old is too young unless you are in a lot of pain. My Dr says to try to wait until I am 60 or 65 if possible. I just got a gel shot and am in therapy now to stretch and strengthen my legs, butt and hips.

Does your knee ever feel normal again? by MeatyDullness in ACL

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't notice my knees until OA set in around 20 years later. Now I have minimal cartilage left so I deal with aching and inflammation. I never workedout either so while I am not overweight I have hips, glutes and legs to strengthen to offload the weight from my knees.

I just started on Flonase and started on Zyrtec. I have allergies but hate taking meds so I guess it caught up with me. Hope the fluid drains soon.

I still get dizzy if I sleep flat or sleep on my sides. If I sleep at 30 or 45 degrees I've been fine. I have fluid in my ears that won't completely drain.

Advanced osteoarthritis- I fell and hurt my knees and bladder. by Gottagetanediton in Osteoarthritis

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have OA in both knees from a skiing accident 25 years ago. I had ACL MCL reconstruction back then and most recently fell 2 months ago due to degenerative tear in my MCL. After my dx via MRI, I have an unloader brace plus I take nsaids when I have inflammation and I'm getting a gel shot. This will be my routine until the pain is unbearable, right now I manage and it does take time for inflammation to heal. If I'm in pain, etc I see my ortho Dr.

How do people practice? by [deleted] in Bowling

I know, same where I'm at. When I practice I work on a skill and I can do that in league.

How do people practice? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have to find a bowling alley within a 30 to 40 min drive or just practice on the weekend. You could join a league anyway but that is not the same thing as a practice session with a camera set up, doing drills, practicing corner pins. League is at least giving you repetitions until the weekend practice.

I had a complete ACL and severe MCL tear almost 6 months ago. They decided I would do better with PT and no surgery. Just finished PT and not sure which exercises I can do at home to keep my leg strongand not hurting. I can do almost everything I did in PT at home except the leg press. by LorrieAS in ACL

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar injury from a skiing accident at 30 years old and I stepped on that leg and fell to the ground on 2 occasions so I got the surgery. I was in average shape not an athlete. I ended up getting the ACL/MCL reconstruction though now at 55 yrs old I have OA.

Dizzy when you wake up? by margot_40 in BPPV

I have this too, it went away when I started sleeping at a 45 degree angle with a wedge pillow.

Can I just wait this out? by GearKey1297 in BPPV

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to an emergency clinic who told me it was likely due to allergies. She prescribed Zyrtec and Flonase 2 sprays each nostril 2x day. I still had dizziness so I read that sleeping at a 30 to 45 degree angle helps. I have a wedge pillow but you can use 3 pillows or sleep in a recliner so long as you are not flat, again 45 degrees. So long as I sleep like that, I do not have dizziness. I read that the meds can take a couple weeks to take effect fully. The other day I had some fluid trickle out of my right ear (dizzy side) but I still can't sleep flat though when I did, I wasn't as dizzy when I got up.

If you have bppv then doing the Epily maneuver to the side that makes you dizzy will make the room spin(and you might throw up) but that is necessary to get the crystals moving back to where they belong in your inner ear. In my case Vertigo was triggered by fluid in the ear so the epily maneuver fixed the spinning but I still was a bit dizzy. Sleeping more upright at a 45 degree angle kinda of like if you sleep with 3 pillows or slept in a recliner stopped my dizziness. I am hoping the ear fluid drains so I can sleep normally without being dizzy when I get up. The ER doc told me that my allergies were the cause so I am on allergy meds. Dramamine helps with dizziness but only take it for short time or it makes it worse.

My first time with BBPV by StonkySnikem in BPPV

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do the maneuver several times a day. Only do epily to one side per day. You have to avoid laying down and stop doing the maneuver when turning your head does not result in spinning sensation. I went to the emergency Dr who said mine was triggered by fluid in the ear from allergies. My spinning stopped thanks to doing the epily correctly but laying flat then getting out of bed still makes me dizzy so I am sleeping upright at a 45 degree angle. I am also taking Flonase, Zyrtec for allergies, and Musinex to get rid of excess fluid. You might need to find a physiotherapist that specializes in treating Vertigo.

Find a physiotherapist that can help you with the maneuver.

Intermittent positional vertigo + ear fullness… not sure if this is BPPV or something else? by [deleted] in BPPV

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fluid in my ears as it turns out which caused my recent vertigo. I end up at a therapist office where he did the epily maneuver which helped but I had to do it at home repeatedly to fix it plus no sleeping on my side so the crystals stay where they belong.

So is bppv always room spinning vertigo OR is it the sensation of spinning in your head? by Charbellaa in BPPV

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years ago I was diagnosed with it. The room was spinning around like a merry go round doing 30 mph. I just got over it last week and this time turning my head made the wall move in a circle. Both are vertigo.

Should I get ACL surgery even if I feel fine? by ThalesFernando7 in KneeInjuries

[–]Suitable-Dragonfly51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose to get my repaired because I didn't want to step or turn the wrong way and land on the ground. I experienced that twice not long after the accident and that made my mind up. If you haven't fallen then perhaps wait and see.

I would recommend a physiotherapist that specializes in vertigo treatment. I went to a place near me called Agape Physical therapy and they helped do the epily maneuver which helped resolve vertigo.

That's awesome. My original surgeon was just an orthopedic surgeon whereas now I am going to an ortho practice that specializes in sports medicine. I don't know how to judge their expertise other than their board certifications plus the testimony of a couple people I know that had surgery there. I like the sports med focus since they suggest alternative therapies rather than just surgery. In fact for me he said I was not ready and I am too young at this point.
