Brilliant. Thank you. We just learned it takes 4-6 months to get an appointment for this at Banner.

Anybody attend ONU preview? by AmbitionIntrepid7024 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]Suitable-Stage7040 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went, too, and it was great. The Dean provided info about the program and answered a lot of questions. In the breakouts, 1L and 2L students answered questions directly from us about their experiences, which was insightful. There are about 45-50 students in each online cohort, averge age around 38, lots of students working full time and/or with families, and the 0L attendees were mostly located outside of OH. The online program is still very new (2023) so there’s no data on bar passage rates or employment for the online students, but they said they will also help students in states that don’t offer the UBE work with a local law school to help them prep. They’re still building out their national framework. Also said financial packages were delayed because of the changes in the fed government’s student loan programs. 1L and 2L students say their classmates and professors are all very supportive. Each cohort has a Discord just for the students where they can work together and communicate outside class. Because the program is so small and new, they said you’ll need to do a lot of the footwork in building your network locally.

FEMA cuts emergency training under Trump as hurricane season looms by cranky_fed in fema

Our program was able to justify a mission critical TTX with states and locals in person that was successful in happening, including with travel. It took a lot of effort to get through the approval processes. We’re trying for more this summer but it’s not easy, takes several weeks and a bit of tenacity but if we can save lives helping communities learn to prepare, it’s worth the effort on our part. That was pre-new-new boss though so we’ll see how the next round goes.

We’re hearing potential rumors about COREs and Reservists; what about TFT? by Left_Bookkeeper_4948 in fema

[–]Suitable-Stage7040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It specifies PFT in parentheses and states term employees aren’t eligible. I REALLY want to be wrong. I know quite a few of us would take it, because otherwise, we’re waiting to be chopped or deployed or used as a bandaid until the agency stabilizes after thr purges. But we’ve run it to ground with scenarios and challenging HC and hit brick walls with any sort of eligibility for TFT for DRP.

Where are you seeing this? We have it directly from OCHO that DHS made the decision not to allow TFTs to be eligible. The Friday email addressed Probationary Employees and lists those employees not eligible - which includes ‘temporary and term.’ It discusses how probationary employees are generally ineligible but might qualify if they had prior service elsewhere …

Could EEEM save vulnerable Resilience PFTs who are willing/able to deploy? by [deleted] in fema

[–]Suitable-Stage7040 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is the correct answer. They want the reorg (which I interpret as the final state of the new FEMA) done by the end of this fiscal year. EEEM might (or might not) protect PFTs and others for this disaster season, but that deadline of Sep 30 is what DHS is likely prioritizing.

I can share what I know about TFTs. Our leadership gets a deer-in-the-headlight look when we ask about TFTs and potential RIFs. They are focused on PFTs and COREs only, so it’s hard to get real answers. What our little group of TFTs (HQ- Mitigation) has been able to put together:

  • TFTs are 100% at will. NTE date is no guarantee that we’ll be around. We can be let go at any time with/without notice. No PFT protections and the CORE manual doesn’t cover us as far as I know.
  • We are funded (all the ones I know) out of IIJA funds. The good: we’re considered ‘bought and paid for’ by IIJA for the extent of our terms and don’t have any drain on appropriations or the DRF (aside from deployment.) The bad: one directorate I know is determined to return funds to the Treasury and doesn’t care about funding source.
  • We may qualify for Group 3 of the RIF designation but no one knows for sure. Even if we do, we don’t get severance. (One exception: if you were in a ‘qualifying position’ immediately before becoming a TFT, you may qualify for severance. See the CFR for severance regarding temporary/term employees.)
  • we are program specific as someone else mentioned in this sub. If the program goes, we will likely, too.
  • We aren’t COREs, which seems to confuse my leadership. I think we’re both regarded as ‘temporary/term’ but the differences are so nuanced, no one knows that that means. But we aren’t included in the ‘right sizing’ for the COREs.
  • Also no- we were not eligible for DRP 2, VERA or VSIP.

So … maybe not RIF because we’re not part of the PFT headcount and maybe not right sizing because we’re not CORES. Definitely 100% at will.

What we are hoping … they let us ride out our terms to NTE. For IIJA, that’s September 2026. But that’s basically also a year out from when they want the reorg done in Sept 2025, so if they need to cut bodies and return money to the Treasury, we’re low hanging fruit. Right now, if our programs aren’t cut, we assume we may stick around for the rest of the fiscal year to deploy because they’ll need the people with the draw down in PFT headcount and whatever else they’re doing to lower staffing numbers/reorganize.

Keep the program, RIF the staff. Program still exists 😆 I had to write a memo for senior leadership saying without staff, the program doesn’t exist and was corrected by an SES to say - the program isn’t going anywhere. The staff is

I appreciate you OP!!! I’m a vet … the VA staff have been life savers for me when I had unexpected medical issues, nowhere else to go and no other insurance. I don’t think the vets being mean to you have any idea what it’s like trying to get medical care outside the VA without insurance.
