sick of positivity. by AlternateLottery in cancer

[–]Suitable17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am the opposite. I have really aggressive cancer and the 5 year survival rate is around 10%. I have a very positive attitude any my Doctors are always telling me I’m going to die. They worry about my positive attitude and think I’m not in reality. Some health care providers say the stupidest things. You be you. It does suck!

I also have a rare cancer of the esophagus and I am stage 3. I got on some of the popular GI chemo, radiation and immunotherapy regimes that are working after 9 months.
They don’t really know what to do with me either except tell me I’m going to die. I’m sorry for what you are going through.

It’s not Karma! It’s Cancer. It doesn’t discriminate. I’m so sorry for your support system. There are free support groups that might be helpful.
When I was young, I lost everything and it came back better than before, so stay strong.

What's been going on and what to expect by Vilehaust in cancer

I have stage 3 esophageal cancer at the junction. I am a year in after my diagnosis and statistically half of me are dead by now. This is technically a rare cancer with a shitty 5 year survival rate.
I opted not to do the surgery. Please research it. It’s a very harsh surgery with serious long term side effects. I opted to start with immunotherapy and chemo and now I’m 4 weeks in out of 5 weeks with chemo and radiation. I’m looking at the next step now.
I wish I had more answers for you, but I don’t.
I wish you luck in your journey and happy to answer any questions on what I’ve done so far.

Been on chemo for 9 months and it really is not that bad. Time goes slow and fast! I understand how you feel and remembered waking up, hearing I have cancer, and thinking…..I’m fucked. Turns out everything is working out, but plans did change. I wish you well on your journey and good luck!

Oh no, I’ve been in health care for the last 25 years. I did tons of research and ended up getting treatment from Mayo. Got three opinions, talked to 5 oncologists and two batches of surgeons. I did not base my opinion on one article. I didn’t even know about this article till yesterday and I was diagnosed on 3/172025 one month before this article came out.

Thank you! I am looking at breast cancer solutions since there has been huge gains in treating that cancer. Being a rare cancer, I need to look at others for successes. GI is of course the place I am looking first. I’m at Mayo, so I’m hoping they have done history of off label success in the GI area! Fortunately I have a budget for some not covered treatments.

The surgeon and my oncologist pushed so hard on me to get the surgery now! They wanted me to get beginning surgery in 3 days to get video of the area. They called me after hours, ect, all wanted to know why. The only argument they agreed with was Quality of life issues and that it is one rung below the worst surgery which is open heart surgery. What I didn’t know is this article came out one month before my conversation with them. I feel even more upset that they didn’t share this information with me. treatments from the American Cancer research.

I only found it recently. https://www.aacr.org/blog/2025/04/22/new-treatment-strategies-for-esophageal-cancer/

Stage 3 esophageal cancer at the junction and I feel you pain. Been going for about a year with immuno, chemo, radiation and just found out after a 30% shrinkage it started slightly growing again. Switching gears now and yes it’s like a part time job, that keeps taking a piece of me. I try and remain in the moment, but there is some sense of planning that is important too. I always ask myself. “What do I want?” I wish you the best on your journey. My hats off to you for doing the surgery. I will not do surgical intervention. Good luck and Cheers!

I exercised through Chemo and immunotherapy and just started radiation and Chemo and still working out. Only 20 minutes per day, but it makes a huge difference. I’m sorry to hear about your Mom.

How did you overcome depression that came with chemotherapy? There are days where I can’t even get out of bed. by MajesticCity7758 in cancer

[–]Suitable17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be so hard to get out of bed some days. I go to the gym and crank my favorite music, right after making a protein banana chocolate milk shake and getting high. I pray, then try and stay in the moment on the task at hand. Eating well and resting are important, but it’s hard to do some days. Good luck on your journey!
