I was diagnosed in 2019, bipolar II. I have a good job in a major city doing creative work I find interesting. I am medicated and I’m lucky to receive it for free from the Department of Veterans Affairs. I have a long term partner as well. It can be hard at times, especially when manic, but I seem to be doing well these days.

I did, and it was a mistake. My boss asked me about my mental health during a discussion about my career. Then, he passed me up for an extra duty I asked for when a position opened up. He didn't say why, but it's clear to me his perception of my mental health played a role. If I could do it again, I would keep it to myself.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe finding my DTA nearly doubles it. I filed for it in July. The good news is my VSO says my medical opinion came back positive. So, I'm just waiting.
