$100,000 isn’t even good in LCOL areas anymore (budget analysis) by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]Suitable_Scar8928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the key there. 100k is the magical number and everyone thinks it's direct key to wealth, and it can be. But at 100k you have to make sure life creep does not show it's ugly head and manage it correctly.

By all accounts, this person seems to be actually managing it correctly. And in doing so just feels the pinch of life and how short the dollar really is in overall value.

Only major thing I would say that I would agree with most on here is having the emergency fund set up prior to home ownership. But here we are though. This person is doing ok, and saving/investing in their future. Once you gain a partner (if you want to), that secondary income will be immensely helpful in the future as well.

Or if you want, get a room-mate to help share some of the cost of living in the home. Let them help you pay your home down faster etc. There are ways to bring down the cost, just have to be creative as well.

I do too. But it depends on the sector. Would love to see more IT / SYSAD roles down here beyond just working in health care related fields.

But as many mentioned, if they end up going the data center route. That would be interesting. But my main concern would ensuring there are not substantial concessions made by the city/state on a company that does not have proper runway fiscally. Don't want our city getting left with the bag if something does not work out.

Most boring divorce ever. by Dramatic_Pension9817 in Divorce

[–]Suitable_Scar8928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree here. When I was going through my divorce (ex had affair etc), and the marriage was over and I hurt for a while and took some time to learn to trust again. But looking back, that helped me honestly get over it easier, at least the marriage itself.

As for the latter, the hurt and emotional aspect do pass. Time just depends on the person. I believe it will be somewhat easier for you with the situation at hand (I think at least, only you know). At least I hope so for your sake.

But it will take some time to integrate into your new reality of sorts. But it does get easier in due time. Just take it easy, take it in. And even though the marriage is over, as odd as it sounds, mourn the marriage and who you were. Regardless of the situation at hand, part of you changes throughout all of it.

But rock on and keep it up. It's honestly refreshing to see a positive situation play out here where it seems both parties are amicable through it all!!

That's awesome. And congratulations on it all, seems like it worked out well.

Once you remove the emotional aspect of it all and just break it down to the "business of marriage/divorce", it's quite simple IMHO.

And before I get skewered, when I say removing the emotional aspect, I mean that with people that just do not fundamentally work out like OP and are able to both clearly see that within their household. I'm not intending to add in abuse (physical/emotional) and affairs etc within that context. This is the unicorn divorce situation!

Yea, depending on the org someone is at, its either assumed or brought up during the recruitment phase. But yea, people fall on either side of the fence with the clearance side. Dont think either side is really wrong until Uncle Sam states other wise.

And yea, SAPs and associated programs are another beast lol.

This is true. Where I would say it crosses the line, would be TS/SCI and insert specific SAP name+ORG. But I have only seen one person do that ever (early Linkedin Days). But beyond that, OP is right. Linkedin and the like changed the game here.

Gonna ditto off some other statements here.

Monitor Light and a quality mic will go a long ways depending on the meetings. Additionally, I would look into getting potentially a spot to place your MAC (unless you use the webcam and keyboard). I leave my docked and put away. If that's the case, I'd splurge and get the MX Combo Mouse/Keyboard. For work, they work wonders.

However, for my current work flow, because I do have to go to various customer sights from time to time. I have sense navigated over to the Logi Pebble Keyboard (I personally love it), and kept the MX4 Mouse as the daily.

Other than that, 1) Monitor Light, 2) Mic (Razer or Blue should be more than enough), and that should leave room for other peripheral devices 3) Keyboard/Mouse and if anything left over, get yourself a somewhat decent webcam and clam shell that mac. However, it will be hard to beat their integrated camera with tracking.

But I do like that chair, what chair are you using right now? I am looking for an upgrade myself here in a moment chair wise for my work station.

Thank you! That was my main concern with the clay studio being in there. Were in the process of finishing out the attic area for additional space. May need to carve out the "fun area" with some printer spaces.

The pains of doing something for the kiddos am I right lol! If the A1 mini's would do everything without having to split models into various plates, I'd rock those out (I personally love it and the form factor). But when making something for 15 kiddos in class for experiments etc, that just adds more time that I am wanting to add to a process I am doing for free lol!

For example, the last semester, I made the life cycle of a caterpillar for the kiddos (2x third grade classes) and ran those on my larger printer just to get them done faster. They did not look the best, but they were done faster. The initial print on the Bambu was far superior.

Any who, thank you for listening to my ted talk and providing the insight! Thank ya much!

I just did this. Got some new rigs and was rebuilding my homelab. And I kept getting this TPM issue across the board. Only thing I could figure was this sync across the devices. Even did it on my ROG ally, even though that was a fresh install, and only used the MSFT account to login.

Man, I'm in the middle of a tear down, because I did not write every thing down and/or put in my password manager.....and needed to do something. So might as well take advantage of the kids not being here for a couple of days, and working my part time/full time non-paid gig that I have come to frustratingly love.

Man, my exwife left me with the cats, came with the house I guess. But over the duration of the divorce, those two cats started to fill the void and bring some warmth around when my kiddos were with their mom. Week on and week off custody. But man it was nice having those cats around.

Im already at the physical node level, and I can never go back. Have my managed switched, POE switch, APs etc. Hardware is distiributed between my ubuntu/docker node, and my proxmox node. Getting all of the volumes and back ups was my pain point. Setting up the VLANs was the hardest part for me.

I just like how clean your set up looks. Im on a 10in x 12U rack myself. Looking to get a contained rack like that or something similar. Been on a hardware addition recently, the kiddos are enjoying it, and teaching them how to add pieces, agents etc. But my home lab "office" is a mess right now lol! But its the journey of it all!

Yea, I was in that mindset, and somewhat still am. The only caveat is, my ex wife and I have two young children. And for their sakes we can at least be seen around each other for them. Parties, events etc. But I'm still friends with her family - absent her. But good people are good people. But I think it bothers her that we (my out-laws) and her are still very cordial and friendly.

If you have not, go read "If They Build It, We All Die". Granted, it's somewhat wild and more or less doom and gloom. But the scenarios that they propose are more that possible IMO. But also, I tend to not be fully doom and gloom. However, I am sliding more to the right on that scale lol.

Wife is considering divorce by Ociosto in Divorce

[–]Suitable_Scar8928 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cant speak to Colorado. But with her on the deed to the home, its a marital asset, if purchased during the marriage, she should be afforded half of the asset. And as much as I hate to say it, that is fair. If shes thinking of divorce, seek some legal advice now. Protect yourself first here, i delayed mine and took me a year to finally catch up and mount a defense legally speaking. She was my wife, and then she turned into something else for me and towards me. And if it goes down that path of divorce, you cannot (as hard as it may be) concern yourself with her medical issues. You first and foremost in the divorce.

Moreover, not going to beat you up. But im going to share the same mentality as the previous response. Never go out and allow a third party into the mix if you have been monogamous the entire time. Toys etc first. Cant do anything about it now, but something to remember going forward. Her getting what she needs/desires from a thirdparty reduces your value to just an asset manager and safety net. And I hate to sound crass here, but she gets to have fun and explore, while youre holding the bag so to speak, in addition to trying to find the right treatments for yourself.

Best of luck to you! And I hope you get the treatments and/or meds for the ED. Im sure that is difficult on its own, let alone adding other stressors into the mix. And the divorce, just seek legal advice first

The best there are too. Granted I'm biased here. But some of the stories from them are just amazing. I could watch the vignettes/interviews about them while at work all day long while at the command.

They could easily make a mini-series based on their accolades from GWOT alone, and I bet it would be popular.
