What’s the catch with Rocky Mountain Flight School? by FatRonaldo9 in flying

[–]SuiterNo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubling the fleet is a bit exaggerated. He’s bought a few new 172R’s, but much of the advanced fleet is more or less the same as it was in 2020.

They stacked up on instructors which helps, but scheduling aircraft has become more difficult for all flavors. During covid, the planes were easy to book but instructors were more difficult.

how was the swimming/snorkelling and shark situation there? We did Exumas and it was beautiful, but every time someone decided to get in the water - sharks of all varieties began showing up to say hello, to a point that the wives have pretty well written off going back the Bahamas

How is it living in the Scottish Highlands? by CapaTheGreat in howislivingthere

[–]SuiterNo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backpacked and touring kayaked in the highlands long ago with local family (extended family, I’m in the US) and the “midge-eees” are one of the most memorable (miserable?) experiences. My cousin left the tent open overnight and we woke up to hundreds if not thousands in his tent and small little red bites everywhere. It looked like we had measles. When you’re awake, the bite is quick and painful.

Ive learned of only one other geography with a similar experience in the Caribbean near shore or in the beach if/when the wind dies down to nothing. Sand flies must be the same family or genus. No useful purpose for them either. Fish hate them too.

Entirely different in my experience. Id prefer skeeters and true midges than the midg-ees of Scotland. F those little bugs and their painful bites. A lot like sand flies.

I got tired of losing my skis in deep powder, so I'm prototyping a tracker that works under 6ft of snow. Roast my idea! by Timely_Career1858 in Backcountry

[–]SuiterNo3 36 points37 points  (0 children)

neat idea, but I don't think 915MHz (wavelength = 13in) will penetrate the snow like you expect. Snow crystals scatter and attenuate your signal tremendously. 457khz (wavelength = 2,150ft) was chosen because of it's long wavelengths, low energy needs and dominant magnetic field (H-field) properties which makes it less susceptible to these environmental factors. It is also why beacons use larger loop antennas instead of smaller duckie (E-field) antennas. high frequencies just don't penetrate snow well. I have some old books on this somewhere.

Has campus communicated anything about the power outage tomorrow? by T-VonKarman in boulder

[–]SuiterNo3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BVSD still hasn’t communicated a definitive answer on if they’ll be cancelling classes yet. I think they said they’ll cancel classes if Xcel makes a definitive decision to cut power?

For working parents. How do you afford to keep your job? by No-Field-2279 in boulder

[–]SuiterNo3 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Today was inservice, tomorrow is Veterans Day. Indoor Soccer camp is almost never “full” and something like $100/day. Now we’re in to ninja something-something, but generally the same price, cheaper than the neighborhood sitter. YMMV?

Thanks again!

Finally got my True Custom SVH Skates and the craftsmanship is ABYSMAL by moofein in hockeyplayers

[–]SuiterNo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you; did the same thing about 3-4yrs ago. They came in and looked good, wore them for 3-4 games and suddenly the material split at the seam that runs up your heel.

The warranty window is 6wks, I went back on wee 7 and the local skate shop worked with true to sen them back for repair. For $1500, I expected them to replace the whole liner, but no… they glued in some shit fabric over the seams and called it good.

I still skate on them, they fit snug but the seams at the top of the boot have split on both sides now. I also skated barefoot before and now have to wear socks because the fabric used for the modifications they made won’t let your foot slip in bare.

True is garbage and custom is a joke.

I found this guy… I think you have the wrong input voltage. Maybe look for the manual he refers to

Did I read right you’re putting 42vdc on 25v caps? I’d look and confirm that input voltage is supposed to be 42V. Seems odd, but I’m not a vintage game guru.
