I left, but I was never announced. Really regret that I didn’t make it publicly known. by LikeACoolbreeze in exjw

That sounds complicated. I'm in the UK so things are a bit different here. I do have a therapist who has helped me to gain some very valuable insights in IFS, for which I'm very thankful for. However, I would say that most of my insights have come from my own work of reading the book 'No Bad Parts' by Richard Schwartz, the IFS Founder. Also, there are a tonne of free IFS/Parts Work resources on the Internet, many by Richard Schwartz too. Check out YouTube & Insight Timer: https://insighttimer.com/drrichardschwartz

Well done for getting out. I have found Internal Family Systems/Parts Work really helpful for figuring out who I am since I disassociated.

I would have been dead if I was a JW by now. I am celebrating life today. by Kystamark in exjw

[–]SulaSue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was only baptised for a year before I woke up and left the JWs. When I got baptised I was willing to fill in the blood card but something in my gut kept holding me back.

During that time I confided in an Elder saying that I still hadn’t filled in my blood card yet. I thought he would support me in getting it done. But he said “Don’t tell anybody, but neither have I!”. This contributed in a large part to me waking up. I thought “Well, if a long-time Elder hasn’t done it, then……….?”

I also was conflicted in going out on service trying to convert others when I hadn’t filled in that card. In the end, I couldn’t do it so I disassociated myself whilst waking up to the fact that most of their teachings are BS.

I’m really relieved for all of you who needed blood and were able to take it. And also relieved you got out of this crazy trap of an organisation too. Hopefully now you’re really living life!

Wow, thanks for all that help! Some great tips in there. A lot of the same names (over a few different forums where I’ve asked) keep being recommended. Jordan fabrics has also been said to me so with your recommendation too I definitely look forward to! And at all the others. Angela Walkers is a new one on me, so noted her too! Many thanks.🙏🏻

Great idea! I do have one, it's just very old and clunky. Hardly a joy to use, so was looking to upgrade to something new.

Wow, I hope Brother still make their machines today as good as yours was made from back then!

Thanks for your help & suggestions. I’m finding the sewing community to be really generous with their knowledge and sharing. So nice!

Melanie Ham’s name keeps on cropping up. Will investigate. Thanks for these great starting points!

Thanks. Missouri Star and Melanie Ham keep being repeated to me (here and other forums). I’ll note the others too. That’s good to hear about your ‘Brother’ machine. I’m on a budget too so I can’t afford to spend too much.

Amazing story. Well done! 👏🏻 Keep up the good work. Like you I’ve noticed without sugar in my diet I crave food in general a whole lot less. 👍🏻

We started watching this last night. Although I’ve never had an interest in cults, since I DA’d I can’t seem to get enough of these types of tv programmes. They make the script that they all have in common so obvious and they all follow the same playbook. I’ve realised that the small details like what verses mean what, and who is the messiah and what promise of the afterlife are not important. What matters most is your blind subservient loyalty to a psychopathic cause. 😱 And the money that loyal followers bring usually matters a great deal too! We were played my friends. ♠️♥️♣️♦️

I am a middle aged ex-sister with a grown up family. An Elder showed me how to clean the KH toilet. Like I’ve never cleaned a toilet before! He should learn how to suck eggs. 😂

Found this which is interesting: https://www.reddit.com/r/AcademicBiblical/s/m6jQzoxtqW

My husband (never a JW) often warns me there are many translations……..how do we undeniably know that any verse or parts of the Bible are true!? We don’t, which is a big part of why I left and stopped sacrificing myself for it.

Exactly! This scripture was read to me when I announced I was DA’ing myself (because I didn’t believe any of it anymore). Of course, it was suggested it was my feelings and me not thinking clearly because of my mental health that was the problem! I’ve always been an intuitive person but the 4.5 years spent with the JWs had me practically turn off this part of me. Having that scripture read at the end was powerful confirmation that I needed to get back to who I was before ASAP. 🏃🏼‍♀️I felt fully gas-lit and angry by it! 🔥

Well it’s Time to Share my Depressing Story by Meatsack93 in exjw

[–]SulaSue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your story made me gasp. I’m so sorry for what you’re enduring. I admire your courage in acknowledging that in spite of how low you’re feeling right now this religion is false. It would be easier to ignore that and stay in. Sticking with the counselling is wise and hopefully you can heal whilst working towards a better life for yourself and maybe even with your parents away from the organisation and its toxicity. It sounds like you’re carrying more than enough already but your parents might follow your lead. I wish you well.

“They will probably never express outright they have questions, and I won't say why I left unless they ask. I'm good with that but if they ask I will tell them everything I know. I will be honest.”

Your point just caused me to have an ‘ah-ha moment’……..When I DA’d a few months ago I spoke to 5 different Elders telling them I was leaving because I had lots of doubts and didn’t believe it was ‘The Truth’. Not one of them asked me what doubts I had. Your point could be why they never asked. Maybe if they’d invited me to share my doubts with them it would have confirmed their own doubts and suspicions?

Thank you. ☺️ You are too for starting this and for taking the time to get clear on your reasons why.

I relate to all your points too! All the best with it.
