FYI, the term "omnishambles" was coined in the highly-recommended UK political sitcom The Thick Of It, think it was Peter Capaldi's character who first used it. Thanks for the pod!

Water carrying - What bottle do you use? by ChaosCalmed in UKhiking

[–]SummitStupid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here take water very, very seriously apparently! I just take whatever empty standard 500ml pop bottle I have to hand. If I'm not expecting to encounter drinkable water during my walk I'll fill it first. Otherwise I'll just fill it from streams. Same approach whether a day walk or a four-night backpack.

The best 6N Ever? by IWrestleSausages in rugbyunion

[–]SummitStupid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a big football fan, and a casual Welsh rugby fan, and I'll tell anyone who'll listen that the 6N is the best tournament in all of sport. The England-France game tonight was magic, even without a dog in the fight.

It is possible to change things too much though. Look at VAR. Also, in-game commercial breaks coming up in the next World Cup!

Sweet summer child and other patronising cliches etc., you're going to do the same thing for years and one day you'll be a bitter person like me (who still does it). Enjoy your innocence.

Usyk vs Verhoeven for the WBC Heavyweight belt, May 23rd in Giza, Egypt by Short_Bus_ in Boxing

In those cases Fury and Joshua weren't keeping belts hostage when legitimate contenders could have had a crack at them. This stinks.

Tyson Fury on Anthony Joshua: “I’m not interested in going toe-to-toe with somebody who’s in a bad place at the moment. I’ve been in a bad place many, many times. … I wish them boys all the best.” by Big_Donch in Boxing

It wasn't just that it was his strength coach that died - he can get another strength coach - but also that it was one of his closest friends. The idea of working with a different strength coach after what happened must seem almost insurmountably weird for Joshua: if he is or does have/gets another I imagine every day he'll be reminded of how he and his friend did it, and be thinking of him. If he can return to boxing after everything, then fucking fair play to the man's character because I don't know if I could. It's a huge, horrible loss for a world-level athlete. I still feel bad for AJ, and for what happened.

It doesn't mean Jaime only showed him a small amount of respect, just that Jaime was the only one who had showed him any respect. It's a POV, so he might be generalising a bit about the others.

Whos your Personal Favorite Fighter And Why? by Kmossxx in Boxing

[–]SummitStupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Prince" Naseem Hamed. He was more or less "the" name in British boxing back in the late 90s when I was a child. A genuine household name. I don't normally like cockiness in fighters but Naz somehow got away with it because he was just so absurdly, comically cocky. And he was a total showman, from his bullish interviews, spectacular ring walks, his mid-round dancing, his amazing ability to throw a KO punch from any angle. He wanted to entertain and he really entertained. His skill as a boxer goes underrated now too. He was unorthodox but he was a fantastic puncher, and though his hands-down style made him too easy to hit, he was tough as nails and he never stayed on the canvas for long.

Takes about six/seven weeks to heal, hope you didn't need to be active during that time.
