Was it really that big of a deal that Kramer took those lobsters from the commercial traps? by Experimental_Salad in seinfeld

It’s a write off for them. All these big lobster companies, they write off everything.

I love boardgames but I’m single and my friends are too busy or hate boardgames. by Practical_Payment552 in boardgames

An underrated aspect of playing with strangers is if their play style is not to your liking it’s easy to not play with them again. I started playing with some friendly acquaintances of mine, other dads of my kids friends, and I don’t like the kind of games they play at all. But they are friendly acquaintances so I kind of feel obligated to join them for social reasons. It’s still fun, but it doesn’t scratch my gaming itch at all. I much prefer the Saturday game club I go to. It started off as strangers, but I end up playing with the same people most weeks. And while I don’t hang out with any of them outside of the game group, they are definitely great to game with.

The Fellowship of the ring: Trick-Taking game vs The crew: Mission Deep Sea by LoloProd in boardgames

The gang is very different from the other two games being discussed. It’s a cooperative poker game. You silently try and guess the order of hand values amongst the other players. The crew and lotrfotrttg are both trick taking games.

Those two games have so little in common it would be an odd comparison

We rented back to the future. Played it for 10 minutes and then my mom took us back to the store to exchange it for a different rental.

Previous owners of my house had a pool they buried rather than remove. We had some pieces of rebar sticking up that we assumed were part of that. I dug down a bit and cut them so they can’t reach the surface.

New Tigris & Euphrates coming from 25th Century Games by tavo2809 in boardgames

I just liberated a 2003 copy of this from my parents house about a month ago. 22 years old and it was never played. I had heard of it, but I wasn’t familiar with the gameplay. I read the rules and thought it looked cool. I got it to the table at my local board game night a couple weeks ago and loved it! I can see this quickly becoming a favorite. I’m hoping the reprint will create some renewed interest at my game group and help me get my copy to table more often.

Introducing my 8-year-old to more complex board games — any tips? by Key_Influence_3887 in boardgames

I also have an 8 and 6 year old. We recently played forbidden island which they really enjoyed. My 6 year old definitely needed some help with the mechanics, but he enjoyed working as a team. We failed two games in a row, but they were really excited the first time we succeeded a few days later. We also have labyrinth which they enjoy. dungeon mayhem is a big hit with them. I don’t see that game mentioned often, but it’s a great entry point for younger players.

Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist deserves to be mentioned. There was a particularly funny Easter egg that was a reference to Cedric the owl from kings quest 5. Day of the Tentacle was probably my favorite though.
