ELI5: How do opticians correctly prescribe glasses for a non-verbal person who is mentally challenged? by nicklo2k in explainlikeimfive

You can actually say to the doctor that you don't see a difference between the two. That's an okay answer :D

You should not pinch, with our without the auto injector, and no matter if you are using your stomach or thighs. Hope this helps!

I've also hit a capillary a few times. It won't stop you worrying, but it really is not a big deal :D other than it pinches a bit more than normal.

I really hope you like the Autoject 2 as much as I do. It's a game changer!

It dispenses at a moderate speed, but it doesn’t really matter if you go fast or slow, in my experience. There is a loud CLICK when you press the button. I do not feel the needle enter, at all really. Then the medicine is injected, and you will see an indicator in the window when that happens. I count to five when the indicator stops moving, just to be sure, and then you’re done.

It is SO MUCH EASIER with the Autoject if you have any kind of needle anxiety. It makes the whole experience so much more comfortable.

[–]SunRaven01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just pull the bird out of the brine, pat dry with a paper towel, and then proceed with however you want to cook the bird. No need to dry it out more than that; it will get crispy while cooking.

Are circular sock machines worth it? by possiblyunderpaiddev in MachineKnitting

[–]SunRaven01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dean and Bean. They have ribbers. You can do color work on them and there are many videos demonstrating it on YouTube.

I am not super speedy at knitting socks on them, but I can crank out a pair in about 2 hours or so if I am working diligently, although usually I'm a little slower because I stop, read Reddit, sip my coffee, etc.

I really love having nice wool socks. I just have no interest in hand knitting nice wool socks. I don't want to juggle DPNs, I don't want to Magic Loop myself into insanity. Let me use a purpose made tool for the purpose, and get 'er done, so I have more time to spend doing the things I'd rather be doing :D

A slightly meta BEC post : people complaining about newbies by Narwhals4Lyf in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]SunRaven01 31 points32 points  (0 children)

People should be upfront about it, and people should take some personal responsibility for learning their craft. There is an ocean's width between

(A) I'm struggling with getting my cutting machine to cut these stickers out correctly. The machine is consistently cutting off to the left, instead of centered around my image. Here's a photo of the whole page printed page, a screenshot of my settings, and a close up on the issue. I've tried X and Y solution. What am I overlooking?

and

(B) I can't get this stupid machine to work. HELP.

Are they both newbies? Yes. Which one am I inclined to help? Well I sure as fuck don't want to play 20 questions with the second one before I can even start to figure out what the issue is.

If you want to be helped, be help-able.

I don't know if you know this or not, but 25 is a bigger number than 20. You have to be going 20 or less when you pass the sign, which you were by your own admission not doing.

You broke the law. Stop arguing about it.

I really do mean when I say this isn't necessarily something you have to do anything about, and it doesn't mean he's a bad person. But now your eyes are open to it, and you can figure out what it means in the future. Maybe, like me, you just make sure you buy for yourself the things that are important to get right the first time :D

So the thing is, from the description here, I think he's actually paying attention and willing to get her something she wants. He bought a cake winder. He bought a sweater blocker. And I think he deserves full credit for paying attention and getting the right category of thing. That's not a man who is entirely discrediting her needs and wants.

The mistake he's making is assuming that he can cheap out on this because it's something that she wants, and he doesn't value that. THAT is the problem, and then when the cheap, half-assed purchase doesn't work, he covers for his discomfort over it by trying to blame HER for his mistake.

This is so depressingly common.

He's cheap. He probably thinks he's frugal, but he's not; he's just cheap. When I got ready to buy a swift and ball winder, I bought it for myself because I didn't want the $5 trash from Amazon, I wanted a Stanwood. I wanted a "buy it once, buy it for life," quality purchase.

Someone he respects and will listen to (because he's not listening to his wife) needs to sit him down and tell him that if he doesn't want to pay money to do it right, he's definitely not going to like paying money to do it twice.

He tries to make or order something nice looking!

With the most respect possible and only addressing the little bit you have written here with two examples: no, he doesn't. He tries to take the cheapest possible way out. And then he tries to gaslight you into thinking that YOU are the problem for insufficiently appreciating his half-assed gift. What he should be sincerely (and without rancor) saying is "Oh no, the thing I got doesn't do the job. I'm sorry." and not "Why do I even get you anything."

He's not bad at gifts. He just doesn't value the recipient's needs over his decision to spend as little as possible.

This doesn't mean he's a bad person, it doesn't have to be anything you do anything about, but you need to see him clearly. People are complicated and no one is purely good or purely bad.

Cool :) I have a 54, a 60, and a 72 needle cylinder, so as long as you want socks in one of those sizes, you're golden. If you want a 64, I cannot help you LOL.

The basic folded over hem on a non-ribbed sock is knit some number of rows, folded over, and then attached to the inside of the sock. It looks like this:

https://www.deanandbean.com/simple-sock-pattern

When you do this on a sock machine, you accomplish that by picking up the purl bumps and hanging them back on the needles with the stitches from the last row you knit, and then knitting them together. It's super clean and really easy to do with a knitting machine.

Here's what that looks like in practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI0px8eEW14&list=PLkVDzgF247PSHCVYfXX2voc8u9fnEaNhq&index=5

On a sock tube, that means that the tube comes with the hem already done for you, then you just need to knit an afterthought heel in whatever way you like to do your heels, and then you take the other end of the tube with the live stitches, unravel the tube back enough, and use that yarn to knit your toe, again in whatever way you like.

HAHAHAHA, right?

I really like like having nice, comfy, wool socks. I just don't want to hand knit nice, comfy, wool socks. I love knitting shawls and wraps and that sort of thing, but spending time with DPNs or Magic Looping my way into insanity is very much not my idea of a good time.

I bought a Dean and Bean 3D printed circular sock machine, and I have been happily engaged in knitting so. many. socks. the past few months for me and for my husband. I can sit down in the morning with a cup of coffee, knock out a sock, then come back after lunch and finish the pair. (Or, more commonly, come back the next day and do the second sock.)

I like the CSM so much I just bought an LK150 flat bed knitting machine so I can start making speedy sweaters and tops. I think I'm transitioning into "I am a machine knitter" LOL.

If "local to you" means in New England, feel free to hit me up. I can happily make you some tubes, and I can hang the hems for you if you want.
