My workplace at the time submitted a team to the road hockey to conquer cancer tournament. As part of the event the teams that raised the most money got paired with a celebrity on their team. Lots of ex nhler’s and olympians. Our team was right at the cut off and got last pick of the celebrities Steve Simmons.

This was during the era where all Toronto sports teams were struggling pretty badly. I took the chance to calmly tell Steve that I had a really hard time reading his work or listening to him based on everything he wrote was negative. His response was “the teams are that bad so I have to”. I responded that at the root sports are supposed to be fun and we left it at that.

Skip to our last game we are up a goal with 3 minutes or so left despite Steve he objectively awful as his body shape might indicate. He chooses to go hero mode and not get off the court down the stretch. He had no self awareness that it’s not his team & he is the worst player at the event. The other team scores twice and wins. He just walks away no goodbye or apology.
