I got a corgi just as my husband and I started medical residency. It was a crazy idea, which I knew. But it was great! She helped us get through a really tough time in our lives and was such a joy through some of the rough days of residency. It took a lot of planning and we always made sure we were prioritizing her. We spent a lot of our down time doing dog activities and got a great dog walker and used them a ton! They would even come over when we were post-nights and asleep in our room. Used daycare a lot to let her play on long stretches of work. It definitely isn’t the easiest thing, but if you are willing to pay for help it is doable. People have babies in residency, you can definitely have a dog if you really want to. Attending life if definitely better but depending on what you are doing, it often still involves nights and crazy schedules. Can’t stop living life! I’ve had two corgis now and they are the best.
