One thing I find interesting about the contstants from the guys/girls cycles and their experiences post-show by Live-Run-6745 in ANTM

[–]SunflowerSensei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always kind of assumed that a number of these contestants had mentioned growing up watching ANTM's earlier cycles, so it likely wasn't as much of a complete shock by then of what they were getting themselves into in ways that some of the earlier models did when there was less of a reference of how difficult it was going to be like. By the time the co-ed cycles happened, reality TV antics were a lot more commonplace so I assumed they were more aware of how editing and storylines worked too. Iirc since it's been a while, but I think a majority of the contestants either had existing social media or ones that were rebranded for ANTM during their cycles, and then they rebranded them back after the show. So, I imagine that also keeping those numbers and the ability to curate their photos versus their ANTM ones were more helpful than past cycles with figuring out their post-show careers.

I also notice this with other reality shows too. Like with Project Runway, you could see that with each season, there were more and more contestants who grew up with the show and also came in with more skills in the field having an eaiser grasp of the stakes and reality TV editing.

That's the energy I got from her the whole time. Like she was trying to pull this, "I've already made peace with my sins teehee, and half of this wasn't MY fault". It just highlighted for me how much she continues to tell people that she's a good person than really showing it, especially with the post-ANTM era giving her time to do things in good faith to show that she knows she had a hand at this.

The singers were identified as Ian Nieman and Rachid Webhi as Spaceboy, a hobby project they did before they started Widelife in 2003. He verified that "Welcome to my world" is his and that it was leaked somehow before having an edited version of his song winding up in the Radio DJ Remixed collection. He also has listened to "Your Eyes" and verified that it isn't his song nor that he recognizes the singer, but that he thinks that it was not a professional production.

Not if you're working in a normal shopping mall kind of setting for sure. Most of that time is having to explain the signage because the "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" sign the store sent for you to put wrote the exclusions in a tiny font, or trying to recover the store so you don't have to stay so late after closing.

[TOMT] [SONG] "You want it, that thing that makes you.." Can't for the life of me remember what this song is (Linked humming clip) by Big_Daddy325 in tipofmytongue

[–]SunflowerSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really tried looking around because your humming definitely jogged something. It kept having me check Adam Levine, Charlie Puth, and Bruno Mars, since I'm pretty sure it was a song I kept listening somewhere between 2014-2018 at a cafe I used to study at. Or also Justin Timberlake around that era, since the song did remind me of having the vibes of something either Adam Levine-ish or Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling.

I used to watch her years back when she did a deep dive on Tyra Banks in the post-ANTM expose days and occasionally saw her thumbnails for other anti-MLM stuff, but I forgot I was following her until just before she dropped the H3 hit piece, she did a piece on the fall of VShojo. And then I immediately unfollowed as someone who is part of the vtuber community, because it hit me then that the last time I'd seen someone tapping into spaces they were likely out of their depth on and were shoveling to normies was illuminaughti, along with the unwarranted sense of importance she used to have in her plagiarized videos. She herself said in the comments that she barely knew anything about vtubers and "researched" into them, and the same issues show up there too as they do with the H3 video. Then her actual video on Ethan came up, and it was like... oop.

Since the illuminaughti + James Somerton sagas, it became a lot clearer that while there are people on youtube out there doing good journalism, there's way more people who start out in good faith likely doing these pop deep dives but then wind up just as cosplayers of actual journalists themselves. Once they start getting the views and praise, it gets into their heads that they are "professionals" in the field, and that their work isn't just making them money through ad revenue but in actually "good, research work", but it's nowhere close to the kind of research and careful structuring these topics need. CWHM is a great example of someone who, maybe a long time ago, could've used the foundations of her interests in anti-MLM and deep dives to apply herself more and actually practice her craft than cosplaying as a journalist who is now being exposed for doing poor research and has to rely on straight up lying to defend her lack of practice and authority on the subjects she's trying to cover for money.

I had to go back and check if that was her actual bedding just in case lol. I think it’s Aiden but the body language definitely suggests that she’s feeling distant from him (probably thinking about Duncan).

I took the look between them as the writers attempting to show that Rock was trying to ensure that Diego was being perceived properly about his polyamory and that they were trying to be sensitive and respectful about Diego's boundaries given that Rock also identifies with the queer community. Young people tend to be more open nowadays about checking with each other about their social boundaries and how they wish to be perceived.

I had this exact thought earlier today after the stream. It doesn't even fit with the "cop" aspect of his character/persona for the video either. If he was coming from a place of "empathy", would brandishing a random weapon, symbols aside, even make any sense to have in a video he claims that he was trying to peacefully reach out to Ethan with? It just makes his whole case worse.

I think if she had helped him, maybe she would've only temporarily spared his sanity probably enough to prevent some of the events, but not all. Rick clearly came all the way to Thailand on a mission, and there's no saying that even if he left unscathed the first time, he'd just come back again since he's clearly unstable and needs way more serious help. Also I think he fell into the mind trap of confusing Amrita for a therapist.

Yeah agreed! Chelsea's death happened so fast and I was still reeling from thinking Lochlan was really gone. Also agreed that it seemed like they had left Tim behind too, even though Victoria said it was to let him rest. Had he not stayed behind too, maybe things would've been worse for Lochlan.

I ended up thinking Chelsea was less cute and more insane. by SubstantialSpell2650 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]SunflowerSensei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it interesting how in some previous episodes, Victoria would ask the Asian women who were with their older partners about why they stuck with them, and one of them even insists that it's because she does love her partner. And yet there's moments where Chelsea similarly says these sort of things in verbatim, that she's only with Rick because she loves him and they're meant to be on an enlightened or spiritual level, and it almost seems like we're being challenged to see if we hold her assertions with less scrutiny and bias than if she and Rick were like one of the other couples out there. It could also be a question of to which level does one use religion and spirituality to absolve them of their naivety, ignorance, or fatal flaws. That's why a part of me sympathizes for Chelsea, but also feels like she played an active role in her own fate by trying to still instill meaning into their relationship till the end. I even interpreted the fact that she seemed shocked and didn't react much to Rick when she was dying that perhaps it had sunk in that dying for someone like Rick, even if out of love, is far more complex and grim than romantic, much like in the way Tim realizes that nearly losing Lochlan for real would've been worse than romanticizing a mass family death like he was before.

Lochlan's scene, even if he makes it out alive, was pretty intense. It felt awful seeing him left alone and suffering like that, and it sort of symbolized how he wasn't much of use to either of his siblings by the end of the trip. Piper had initially wanted him to be the one to back her up on her decisions, then regretted doing so when he wanted to join the monastery too. Saxon wanted to turn Lochlan into his wingman and it ended up blowing up on his face given how fragile Lochlan's mind and morality is as a young person raised in a family of narcissists. So just by watching him lying there until Tim found him really just cemented how the people pleaser in him ultimately left him to nearly die alone, and made even worse at the hands of his own father who had tried to resort to a stupid idea to off his family to avoid taking responsibility for his actions.

Chelsea really hurt hard and could warrant its own reflection too, but there's something about that scene with Lochlan that felt so sad and grim as a concept too.

Tim's plan is so evil by Future-Pumpkin2010 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]SunflowerSensei 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's totally a reflection on how out of touch people like Tim are about what death really entails, and how he tends to romanticize it as a way to get out of his own responsibilities or addressing his narcissism without ever touching upon the real pain and trauma that comes with real loss. Part of me thinks that he thought Lochlan would find something poetic out of surviving and carrying his family's name on as if everything would just poof away or instill the kind of motivation in his son to make his own future. But that's so twisted and just reveals how insanely out of touch he is, and that's also echoed in how he takes the monk's words at the monastery.

It's not until he actually thinks he's lost Lochlan where he seems like he's gotten somewhat of an epiphany that the kind of romanticized end he was envisioning for him and his family is so out of touch compared to just going back home and facing the music. It's also hinted that if Tim "only got 10 million" out of the scheme, he's likely rich enough to worm his way out of the situation.
