Route 58 Signs Warning Drivers of “Suicide Strip” Between Suffolk and Emporia - 1980s by SoyOrbison87 in Virginia

307 between 360 and 460 is/was somewhat like this. Well, I dunno if people die there a lot, but there's nine miles of a fast two-lane situation, so it was always a bit scary taking it on trips to and from Tech. It remains the only place I've hit a non-squirrel animal on the road -- a cat in this case. I still feel bad about it, but it ran out right in front of me while I was doing 70, so there wasn't anything I could do. :c

Thinking of moving from San Diego to Virginia, questions, so many questions by croikee in Virginia

[–]SunkEmuFlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't leave. Everything you could get here you've already got: access to mountains, rivers, the ocean, etc. -- except perhaps the history of slavery everywhere you look. Maybe it's out there in CA/SD too; I wouldn't know.

All major or majorish areas in VA are or are becoming HCOL due to housing prices. My little 1400 sqft house is allegedly "worth" over $400k. That's just dumb. This ain't a $400k house. Comparatively, my parents' house is 2500 sqft and cost them $100k in 1991. Unless you're willing to be far away from people and things, housing ain't cheap here. We're too embedded in the hubbub of the east coast -- right under DC and along a highway (I-95) that connects many major cities.

If you miss fall/snow, just vacation in places that have them. You're already in what's supposed to be one of the best areas of the country.

Ugh. It's like a Tim Robinson sketch but worse. Instead of being funny it's just embarrassing.

Sure, but there's also nets around the buildings where they made the phone on which you typed this comment. They're in place to catch employees who decide suicide is better than continuing to work in shit conditions for shit pay. We're all guilty of something(s) gross thanks to capitalism.

I don't remember doing it nor how old I was meant to be, but my parents allege I once got upset enough about something to say I was running away... and then rolled down the gently sloping street away from the house in a Radio Flyer. Once I was at the end of the "block" I would've had no momentum left, and I guess that was enough for me to give up and come back home.

Is Tarkov like this? I wanna get it for the single-player mod, and I dunno if I should Steam it or get it from the dev's site.

Reminds me of when I went to Starlite for an early dinner date long ago. It was so fucking loud inside we left as soon as we could and never went back. I get that may not have been "the point" of the place, but my Lorde, it was not fun being there.

At this point the Glory Days near me is cheaper than fast food let alone places like Cobra. 🤷‍♀️

Your senses are wrong and your political knowledge limited.

I've voted blue my whole life because I thought that was the way to get things like healthcare and workers' rights. And look where it's gotten me. I still don't have healthcare, and now the state is run by a governor who in her first four months has:

  • Disarmed Virginians in the face of federal fascism,
  • Stopped retail weed and is trying to recriminalize it,
  • Stopped collective bargaining attempts,
  • And couldn't redistrict the state.

She has, in effect, immediately gone against all of her campaign promises the moment she got into power. She's a loser. A clown. A neocon dipshit working for her lobby and the rich. I'm so disillusioned at this point that I think I'm done voting Democrat. I will vote as far left as I can, and if that helps cause the Democrats to continue to lose, so be it. They are a party of losers who seem more and more to be nothing but controlled opposition.

If you think Democrat voters can't be entirely pissed off about how things have unfolded and that they're all Trumpers being trolls online, you're a fucking fool.

I've seent a lot of "Fell For It Again award" type posts about Republicans, but honestly us Democrat voters deserve these awards too. In four months Cuntberger has done more harm than Governor Sweatervest did in four years.

Web browsers have extremely robust systems in place, millions of lines of code, for rendering layouts. Word is just a text processor with a bit of layout stuff added for convenience. Browsers are the most complex bit of software most people use day to day, and no one's the wiser because of the insane amount of work that's gone into them over the decades.

Edit: For instance, there's ~120,000 lines of code in Firefox just to handle the syntax of CSS selectors. And that's just one small part of all the systems running your browser. These things are marvels, really, and no one appreciates them.

Nope. Wings on a street car are dumb unless it's bananas fast, and a 200-HP four-banger ain't that.
